Re: Site News: Where's Our Marathon PS5 Review?

TheDarts

@ElectricWizard fair on who? The websites? Why should that be the case, we owe them nothing. They exist because we give them attention, so when websites chooses to self-embargo a review on launch day because a publisher asks, who does that help? Clue - not gamers.

The excuse is because a review wouldn't reflect the game when all the content is out. THE GAME IS ON SALE RIGHT NOW AND PEOPLE ARE SPENDING MONEY ON IT WITH THE CONTENT IT CURRENTLY HAS! To suggest it's better to review the game later so as to not give an unfair impression IS RIDICULOUS.

Write a review about the game as it is at launch, which is IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST, and amend the review down the line. Don't give it a score if you're worried about people's perception, but that's not a good enough reason to not review a game at launch at all.

@get2sammyb 'Ultimately this is a lose-lose situation for us.'

Absolute nonsense and a cop-out. There's nothing to stop you writing a review based on what's playable now and letting the readership know that your opinion may change over time. You don't have to give the review a score but not doing a review because the publisher/developer has asked for some clemency towards the game....that's ridiculous and is not in the public interest.

Lose-lose?! Hardly. You are putting your commercial interest over integrity and public service. It's win-lose. You remain in the good graces of the industry and you lose reputation amongst gamers.

Not reviewing the game in it's current state makes PS complicit if there are issues. There's nothing to stop PS reviewing the game and judging it on its current merits and faults and updating the review as the game evolves.

Not reviewing it at launch is a joke. Waiting for the game to mature before judging it ONLY serves the publisher, not the gamer.

Re: Skate Is Placing New Map Area Behind a Paywall, and Fans Are Outraged

TheDarts

The sense of entitlement from gamers here is unreasonable but I'm sure it's from a vocal minority. Sadly, it's what will get attention from the media who feel compelled to highlight the poor reaction from some fans about some transient non-issue in a game that's not even out of early access. This just puts needless pressure on these devs and the game. It really does the gaming industry a disservice. What is the point of this report? Is there a need to know that there's a subset of gamers who are annoyed that a F2P game that's the devs are still working on and trying new things to see what sticks, is still free after a couple of months as they trial something?

If this became permanent it's actually newsworthy. Until then, this is just sensationalism.

Re: PS5 Sequel Control Resonant Is Inspired by All the Coolest Sh*t

The marketing department says the game is cool! It has influences from prehistoric cave art, toddler fridge art, chimpanzee zoo art, mandlebrot set equation renditions, the moment hydrogen atoms achieve nuclear fusion and The Fonz combing his hair! Wow, I'm sold, thanks marketing department!!

Re: Sony's Really Trying to Position PS5 as a Destination for Indie Games

TheDarts

'The truth is, PlayStation has always been a good place to play indie games, but for a lot of people, the console of choice in that regard is Nintendo Switch 2.'

Good grief Charlie Brown, that is an ill conceived, highly rhetorical, vague, marketing-speak of a statement to make. 'A lot of people'? What, more than you can get in a phonebox but fewer than in a shopping centre? 😆😆 More than in a menage-a-tois but fewer than at a Bonny Blue porn shoot? 🥳❤️

Here's why 'a lot of people' who have never compared the indie legacy of a 30 year old console brand with an 8 month old console in order to decide which is the console of choice for indies might pick Switch 2 if this specific scenario ever came up organically in a conversation:

Portability — play indie games anywhere.
Lower hardware barrier — indie games rarely need high-end graphics.
Audience overlap — Nintendo users historically buy more stylised, experimental, or smaller-scale games.
Established indie reputation from the original Switch — the Switch (2017) became strongly associated with indie titles.

Re: Sorry Haters, But Marathon Is Looking Real Good Right Now

@ShadowofSparta exactly why they should be ignored. It's not like they can ever be reasoned with seeing as what they do is in bad faith. So it's really frustrating that a professional journalist uses them for attention instead of rely on the quality of content of the article. Turns out this article lacks any substance and its only hook is to reference 'the haters'. Imagine having a job like that. Can't be satisfying.

Re: Play Nioh 3 Now in Free PS5 Demo

You drama queens 🙄 if only you engaged your brain before your emotions. Major problem with so many people, these days. The demo size means is large because it's contains content and assets from the finished game. If you go on to buy it the overall download will be smaller.
