Sports games tend to support last-gen consoles longer than most, but 2K Sports has finally pulled the plug on PS4 with NBA 2K27.
This year’s game, available from 4th September, will only be available on the PS5, so if you’re a hooper who’s been holding out, it’s time to upgrade.
There’ll be a trio of cover stars this year, with San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama fronting the Standard Edition.
He’ll be flanked by the WNBA’s Caitlin Clark on the Deluxe Edition and Chicago Bulls legend Derrick Rose on the Ultra Edition.

A full gameplay reveal is due next week, on 28th July, and the press release doesn’t really reveal much about what you can expect from this year’s game.
Popular modes like MyTeam and The City will return, but the details are pretty vague.
For example, here’s what the publisher’s saying about MyCareer so far: “Shatter expectations, compete against legends of the sport, and leave your mark on NBA history.” Sure, okay.
You can check out a trailer of the new athletes embedded above, with more information to follow in the days leading up to launch.

I think the importance of cover athletes is fast evaporating.
@get2sammyb What you have instead, a picture of a basketball or something? I think having Caitlin Clark on there is huge!
@Oram77 Well I obviously appreciate they have to have an icon on the PS Store etc, but I think all the "prestige" around cover athletes was inherently associated with what you saw in shops.
@get2sammyb Yeah I can see where you are coming from, but I just think it's one of those things if it went away then people would be mildly annoyed.
The game releases on August 28 at $100 or more for the extra special edition.
Or you can wait a week for the plebian edition.
But please buy it at launch. Please. 2K needs the money this year.
I don't see why we should celebrate them ditching PS4. In this economy, video game consoles are more expansive as ever, and frankly, playing a sport game on a PS4 or a PS5 makes barely a difference, as those games are so similar year to year.
@get2sammyb I think you're right, given the fact that 2K/Visual Concepts chose Wemby instead of the MVP Jalen Brunson.
@get2sammyb they should have a 'They Live' type of cover for this game and just have the words, 'Buy This, Spend More Money' on the front.
Really cool to see Caitlin Clark on one of the covers.
