A sequel to Wreckreation was not on my bingo card, but that's exactly what we're getting.
Simply named Wreckreation 2, the game was recently announced for PS5 and other platforms, coming from the newly-established studio When Tides Turn.
When Tides Turn appears to be largely the same dev team that made the original, just under a new name.
As you can see from the announcement trailer above, the sequel puts much more of an emphasis on the chaotic arcade racing rather than the Live Mix feature, which allows you to edit the open world and create unique challenges.

It seems Wreckreation 2 is more interested in the core action, which is encouraging.
The original game had big ideas but the execution was just not very good; handling was rough, the open world was soulless, and it all just felt a bit half-baked. I'm really hoping Wreckreation 2 can improve on what came before.
I do like the look of the cityscape environment in the trailer, and the racing looks very Burnout, which is great — but it's all about how it feels to drive, so the jury's still out.
Another aspect of this project is that the team at When Tides Turn is aiming to get the community involved via early playtests on PC. Patreon supporters can sign up to take part and help give feedback on the game.
I'm surprised to see Wreckreation 2, but I'm rooting for it.

Man would love a burnout 3 and revenge remaster.
Neat, although I'd rather have the long announced first game on Switch - it remains pending until the publisher either cements the release date or hires an SMM to notify the public about port cancellations. Whichever they can afford first. And if I had a dollar for every open world called "soulless"...
It always seemed to me like Three Fields really bit off more than it could chew with Wreckreation. Although, from what I've seen and heard, none of their games have been especially acclaimed. Hopefully it turns out that When Tides Turn isn't about to make the same mistakes.
Wreckreation 2 looks promising from that trailer, but then so did the first game.
When Tides Turn is what they picked for a new name? How bad were the ones they didn't pick?! When Farts Smell? When Cheese Sweats? When Doves Cr...oh wait...that's a good one.
Whether they call themselves Three Fields or When Tides Turn, they've been trying to make a 'spiritual successor to Burnout' for 14 years now and haven't come close. When are they going to actually pull it off and do it already?
@TheDarts When Games Disappoint.
I genuinely like this game. The worst part was the collectibles for the platinum, however most games have annoying plat journeys.

is it weird that Wreckreation hasn't been out all that long? I thought that game was going to be supported for some time with its customisations and track builders. I thought they'd be adding to if for some time?
I would of expected this announcement if the first one had done amazingly well and this was like 2 years down the line?
Or is it just me?
You know what, I’ll give it a go, as I love a good racing game as much as the next virtual petrol head. Will say though, seems quite a bold move from them!
@TheDarts When Paychecks Bounce.
That reminds me wasn’t there a new Wreckfest announced as well or did I imagine that? First game was excellent.
I platinumed Dangerous Driving, but I mostly enjoyed it for how completely broken it was.
Wreckcreation is basically anaemic Burnout Paradise; lacking the city and general charm. Takedowns in the game are terrible (you nudge a car and it seems to just sort of decide to crash for you). It doesn't enjoy the benefit of being as janky as its predecessor, and it sort of paradoxically suffers because of it.
Dangerous Driving was wacky fun, but Wreckcreation just felt like a chore. Even so, I won't say no to more. I'd just like to see how it turns out.
I'm hopeful. There was potential in Wreckreation and I gave it a good go, just seemed half baked and no amount of updates were going to fix it. There's definitely a market for the arcade racing genre with Star Wars and Stuntman getting a lot of hype. I for one, will buy(in to) a sequel. Keep cooking.
Getting some serious Road Rage vibes from Burnout Revenge (which is my absolute favorite) with that trailer. If they deliver on that they definitely get my money.
@Markatron84 When Hairy met Samey
The game really needed flavor. It played great but looked like an asset flip.
Surprised no news sites looked Three Fields and When Tides Turn on Companies House . The founder of WTT is still listed as a director of Three Fields.
WTT was only incorporated in Feb '26, and Three Fields status is company and isn't disbanded yet.
