Hard to keep up? Not entirely. It’s been a long time since something truly unique has come around. We are in the era of remasters, ports, remakes and sequels and endless series. I see a new game come out, go “oops, I’ve seen that before,” and move on. It’s great and has made my purchasing decisions more meaningful.
So for me, I’m not too worried about the length of discussion! : )
It’s like when I hear the term NEW METROIDVANIA, I check my library, see that I still have Super Metroid and SOTN, and tell myself I don’t need the new one that will probably botch something up in the formula anyway.
The last truly unique experience for me was Demons Souls, followed by Bloodborne, but I’m not gonna waste $600 on a game and console just for pretty graphics!
Seeing as Demons Souls plays exactly the same as it did on the PS3, I’ll be tracking down a slim one at some point. The graphics are nice, but not $600 nice, and I don’t think I would use the system for anything else.
@Katsuhono Ok, there’s no way to determine that number, so it’s not worth bothering with. But oh right common sense yes, seems to involve a lot of assumption bullox...
@finalstan I’m not talking about science, just simple numbers. When you have a game like COD that has over 2 million people online, calling it a minority is silly. Or worse, a game like Fortnite that has a player pool of 350 million...I mean if you really want to utilize common sense, look at the numbers and make a simple analysis.
@jbreez00 All systems are doing the exact same thing. Sell you hardware to try and secure digital spending and subscription services. The only reason you may think they are doing something different is because you are being misled by their advertising jargon.
Sony loves talking about single player experiences, but they really want you to buy their online subscription, it’s easy income for them. Don’t be misled by the “leaked” information.
@finalstan COD, a franchise that sells in the millions consistently year after year, is a minority now? What, is Demons Souls mainstream, then? I think you might have your numbers backwards!
@Woogy I witnessed two Amazon trucks meet up in front of my house and instead of delivering a package, they exchanged stuff between their trucks. I don’t know if that sort of thing is routine, but it definitely look suspicious.
Demon’s Souls looks great, but I’m a little disappointed that under the pretty graphics, it’s the same thing as before. Makes sense that Hob was able to beat it without taking any hits, he already did that for the original, so it’s just another run to him.
I waited for two years to buy my first Nintendo Switch while everyone was going crazy to get them during launch. I can wait that much longer or more for a bloody PS5.
@Octane It's something about how close fitting it is. Old samurai armor looked pretty chunky, and had lots of plates overlapping different sections. Some of their gear weighed up to 100lbs on their heaviest, so this looks almost like a ninja outfit or something a Japanese archer would have worn. While I'm sure they did research, it does look a little out of place if they are doing an older setting.
@Jayofmaya Oh neat, I’ll check those out, never heard of them. Edit: just gave Beyond a listen, they sound like a cross between Amon Amarth and Black Dhalia Murder. Interesting!
@Jayofmaya Mainly death and black melodic, stuff along the lines of Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth, though Dimmu doesn’t sound that good in their newer albums.
@clvr I have played numerous instruments while growing up, including vocals, but I landed on saxophone and stuck with it. I transitioned from jazz to classical, which I like much better. Oh, and playing game arrangements of my favorites : )
My favorite music is of course, game music, hahaha. But I REALLY like J-Pop, J-Rock, and death/black metal. Odd mix, to be sure, but that’s me! Lol how about you?
@Jayofmaya I was joking, I've been a musician my whole life and no serious professional uses that term, simply because it's just a casual way of explaining the musical feel. Obviously, it's easier to write them out over a few parts, but it's just a semantic thing, really.
@clvr Yes, it's a joke. I've been a musician for 30+ years, and nobody really seriously uses the term except casually, partly because any "polyrhthm" can just be recreated with similar note patterns other than the typical "2 over 3," as a simple example.
@clvr Hey clvr! Yeah, that seems like something I might want to look into, I LOVE rhythm games. My only regret in life is selling off my Beatmania IIDX collection and DJ Dao controller. Good times, but it needed to move on.
@Esuazo10 That’s atrocious, considering how much God of War actually tells a story, looks gorgeous, and of course, plays great. Plus it matured the franchise. Fortnite, while popular, doesn’t deserve a spot over a game like GoW.
@Esuazo10 There is zero credibility in any awards show. I would question whether or not these types of things are actually voted in. We could be casting votes but someone already made the decision for us.
@graysoncharles Actually, there are tons of people that have said things and don’t receive any consequences for whatever they said. Someone has to actually go after the person for the consequences to even happen.
@Matroska Different people are comfortable with different things. For me, I’m fine with nudity, but gory, visceral violence is way too much for me. Some comments come across like all experiences are equal, but that’s clearly not the case.
@Arnna I love this concept to a point. There’s an old NES game called Solstice that does just that, no map, just dumps you in. It’s fun for a while but in that particular game it’s extremely tedious.
I would say that Bloodborne and Souls series do this in a much more enjoyable fashion. I always felt rewarded by the game for uncovering some secret, or for finally memorizing an area. I know they are just games, but they are done in a way that mastering them feels great.
I agree that hand holding games can be enjoyable, Skyrim stands out as one of those and I love it from time to time. There’s room for everyone at the table!
@GREGORIAN When they said “and that’s fine,” that’s another way to say “that’s okay.” You literally quoted them and then ignored what they wrote. Also, you sound like you don’t play games, and hate them. Is there a reason you are spamming a games thread with this nonsense?

I hope they make Takuma more lean, his recent designs made him look too chunky.

@whizzkidd Oh, I know you’re correct in that statement, it just also seems like a great opportunity to do something dishonest.

Re: Soapbox: Demon's Souls' Difficulty Shouldn't Deter You from Playing PS5's Best Game
@doctommaso It's the widely accepted easy mode. Armor is no good, especially for beginners. Mobility over defense, always.
Re: Talking Point: What Were Your Most Played PS4 Games?
@SolarSailor Been playing a lot of Dark Souls, and spending a lot of time studying.
Re: Soapbox: Demon's Souls' Difficulty Shouldn't Deter You from Playing PS5's Best Game
Demons Souls is easy. CHOOSE ROYALTY STARTING CLASS
Re: Talking Point: What Were Your Most Played PS4 Games?
Bloodborne, probably around 100 hours.
Haven't touched my PS4 in about 2 years, though!

@Octane Yeah, his outfit is leaning towards something cybernetic, or like a jumpsuit.
Re: Official Ghost of Tsushima Action Figure Is All Kinds of Cool
I never played the game, so I don’t know much about it, but were they going for a super modern look with his outfit?

There is an easy mode. Choose Royalty starting class, acquire Firestorm.
Re: Demon's Souls (PS5) - Cult Classic Becomes PlayStation's Best Ever Launch Game

That’s all fine and good, but unless they can get that data into the NES version of Football, I remain skeptical.
