@get2sammyb Nobody has anybody by the balls, are you having a bad day or something? Your articles are usually pretty up beat. I hope you are fairing well.
@Max2574 The Dark Souls Remaster treatment would have been atrocious. Honestly, what would have sealed the deal for me is if they shortened the backstab animations (the new ones take too long) and just orchestrated the original arrangements and used sounds more true to the original. Then, I would have gladly forked over the money for a console and the game.
@Max2574 Thanks for the clarification! I agree that the game looks and plays beautifully, I just feel that a lot of its personality has been lost in the loud, Hollywood movie soundtrack and Star Trek sound effects. The art of subtlety seems to be lost on whoever arranged those compositions.
@Menchi It makes sense. Demons Souls (PS3) has a ton of atmosphere that makes it stand out among the crowd. The remake, while beautiful, feels more like a Hollywood movie because they lost the minimalist approach the original had in terms of sound design.
I guess I don’t understand what this is trying to achieve. It sounds like it’s just rumble, but different? Not sure how. Any explanations from people that have used it?
Bad music is bad, bad sound design is bad, sounds like Lord of the Rings X Star Trek. Everything else about it looks pretty fantastic, I'm just hoping they at least add an option to use the original OST. I'm surprised they didn't change the dragon encounters! Better bring your 600 arrows for the Blue Dragon!
@LiterallyDoNotCare Actually, it’s a remaster. The base game plays identically to the PS3 version, janky bosses and all. The graphics got overhauled, and they butchered the soundtrack. No other changes were made to the gameplay, save for a couple QOL additions. It’s 99% the same game. Nothing was actually remade, with the exception of the musical score.
@Ken_Kaniff If you play on a moderate to high end PC, then I agree with your sentiment. For console-only gamers, the graphical improvements are pretty huge.
Doesn’t that sound mean something is scraping against something it shouldn’t be, or that something is starting to come loose? Man, I’m getting more glad by the day that I skipped this thing.
@Tchunga Most people are stubborn when they know they will be proven wrong. Spoil yourself? Just listen to the soundtrack, lol. Nobody cares about the argument, but what you should care about is being honest with yourself.
@LiamCroft I'm sorry if you enjoy the music, I've never been a fan of this sort of thing. I'd rather listen to lyrics I can't understand, like in death metal lmfao.
@Tchunga Put the songs next to each other, listen to the PS3 version and the PS5 version back to back. In a couple of them, you can clearly hear the inspiration (Maiden Astrea) but most of them are just new, loud and annoying. Something that was great about the PS3 OST is that it had a lot of quiet moments to improve the mood. The PS5 one is just loud and "epic," woo how nice, I want the mood of the old OST. It's literally why I still come back to the original, because it sets such a wonderful tone.
@Tchunga How can you quantify something without having listened to it? The entire OST has been uploaded to YouTube already, and none of the songs recreate the mood of the original game. I'm all for change, but I like meaningful change, not what they did here.
@SoulsBourne128 If they did that, then I would eventually get the system. The original game's sound production is so good and gave it a unique flavor unlike any other game, the remake sounds like a weird mix of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
@get2sammyb I’m not looking for support, you are welcome to think whatever you like about me. I still have no problem saving $600 and skipping this system and game. If all they changed is the appearance and music, but the game plays exactly the same, then I’m happy playing the original again and saving the money for something that I really want, instead of this.
@Tchunga They are using different songs. Fully orchestrated isn’t the issue. It’s that the music has been re-written, and has lost its original mood. All they had to do was orchestrate what they originally had, and not use new arrangements.
@Total_Weirdo Demons Souls is actually the easiest game in the series, and they didn’t change anything about the gameplay so I can confirm that while the game is very obtuse, the enemies aren’t that bad.
Did they actually change anything, besides the (awful) sound and (amazing) graphics? I know inventory management got slightly improved, but...anything else, gameplay-wise? Do we still need 200 arrows for the red and blue dragons?
How much of this game uses the Animus? I HATED in the first game how much fun stuff was ruined by those sequences, made me give up the series, but I don't see much talk about it on this game. Did they finally remove those sections so we can focus on the fun, "historical" stuff?
@themcnoisy Not at all. I would hardly say this is the biggest recession, a big one, to be sure, but not the biggest. It also depends on which country you live in, it's not wise to use your experiences in your country to explain that of others.
Yes, CEO's spend money. They drive their companies forward, doing the most work in terms of planning (assuming they are doing things justly) so it makes sense that they get the biggest cut. No boss in history has ever made less wage than their employees.
Like I keep saying, gaming prices haven't changed in 40 years, but people like to conveniently ignore that because they are addicts to their games, and have no will power to say "no" to something. That's something you should be paying more attention to than anything else, because the industry of gaming wants you addicted, so that you will pay any price. It's the reason I personally boycotted EA and Ubisoft, and a few other companies. I disagreed with their vision of gaming, so I moved on from them, haven't purchased something with either of those labels on them in 20 years. If you don't like something, put aside your addiction to the medium, and just say no.

@HotGoomba___Rebrand Might wanna put your “memes” through some focus testing or a beta phase before just spewing them all over the place.

@ShogunRok Thanks for that! Yeah, it's a shame that the series has such gorgeous scenery, ruined by such flatness from the Animus sections. Yuck.
