@suikoden
Dude, Red Dead is at 196K total since released and will likely hit 200K next week. I don't think Fallout 76 will ever catch up with its total 85K sales and only 11K sold this week.
@wiggleronacid I agree. Nintendo is getting flak for maintaining their games' value over time while their rivals (publishers even Steam) is spoiling their customers to wait a month or two for the inevitable discount/sale. These publishers themselves are to blame.
@zimbogamer @NintendoFan4Lyf Spider Man Homecoming can still make money out of licensing apparels, toys, school supplies, TV airing rights, DVD/Bluray, streaming services, advertisements, etc etc. I don't think the PS4 game will make more money over time besides the game sales. With that said, the game deserves success.
@BAMozzy Boom! That's savagely satisfying. Well said. I actually have 3 friends who buy their AAA multiplats (and MS exclusives) on their One Xs because it runs better and buy exclusives on their PS4 Pros and Switches. For indies, they buy it on the Switch because of portabilty. Also thank you for the informative posts.
@maruse It's just getting started. Wait for the Japanese sales chart on both NLife and Push Square. Last week we saw God of War beating Labo. Looks like Labo is back on top and GoW went a couple of places down.
Well this just confirms about the mentality of the commenters in this site. I guess it's best not question their beloved Sammy Barker.
@JaxonH
Actually comments on Nintendo-only sites have been overwhelmingly positive on the LCU news except for the usual "everything about the Switch is a port" camp. And not everyone agree with vocal complainers.
@DLB3
I come here for my PS news, as I visit NLife for my Nintendo news. Shame that PureXbox have to close down. No fanboy wars in there and ALL the writers were very professional.
@rjejr @Kage_88 @YouSeemFRAZZLED and the others.
Thanks! You guys put it better than I did. Can't believed I/we are being labelled as crybabies and cheerleaders for calling out the article. Better not fuel the angry Sammy fanboys any further. Good day!
@get2sammyb I'm fully aware of that. But then, you make it sound like Nintendo "fanboys" have been left out when it's also coming to the Switch. Super Mario Run is irrelevant here until maybe Sony announces Uncharted Run so I don't see your pale comparison.
@get2sammyb
You make it sound like it's only coming to the PS4 like every other multiplat games out there. This is what I dislike most about this site. At least embed the tweet. I don't see how Nintendo "fanboys" have something to be fuming about because it's also coming to Xbox One, PC and the Nintendo Switch.
Anyway it's a great game. I hope they fix the loaaaaaaaading time.
@Gamer83 @get2sammyb Or Sony did a good job of not highlighting the difference between the standard and Pro. Sony is trying to sell a new product here without having to give that "you effed us up, Sony" feeling to 40M old PS4 owners. I can't wait when graphics comparison videos starts to pop up between the Neo and Standard.
@Nifty That's why a mix of both works for me. The games I wanna keep and will play again and again, I buy digitally (mostly on sale). For games with no patches or DLCs that I want to keep (complete editions), I buy it physically. For games I wanna play once and give away or sell later, I buy it physically.
@Nifty If you buy a digital game, it stays in your console forever until you delete it or until your console stops functioning or you sell it and your account. It's yours. And if the game is still supported by then and poop happens, you can redownload it on another console. Physical and digital have both their pros and cons. By your logic, most physical games are useless in the future anyway because you can't redownload patches when the servers go offline.
I think they will wait for Nintendo and/or Microsoft to announce first so they can kill the hype on their competition and to gauge what and what's not to announce. That's what they did in Xbox 2 years ago.
"Our exclusives are selling like crap but our console is selling through the roof. It's obvious the consumers want more consoles and less exclusives!"
LOL. Anyway, I can understand the frustration especially for those who recently bought a PS4. And who's to say the devs won't neglect the 40M old PS4 users? Maybe not at PS4K launch but when it sells significantly enough (20M PS4K) that they start neglecting oldPS4 and push them to upgrade. Neglecting in a way that the games are more optimized to run in the PS4K.
@glassmusic The people who upgrade their phones yearly are mostly those that take advantage of the service provider plans that lets you upgrade your old phone with minimal additional costs to the new one. Plus phones tend to get scratched/broken etc that there's a need to upgrade. You can't really compare it to videogame consoles. Consoles are more comparable to TVs when it comes to when to upgrade.
@BAMozzy
Jeez, here we go again. I'm in no way saying they are making the same game from the ground up for the PS4K build. By the time you increase the "graphics", the "details", the " resolution", or the "framerate" of the PS4K build, the devs will need to test if they put too much "graphics detail" for the PS4K that the framerate will take a hit. You are mainly mentioning about resolution and framerate here. Are you sure the devs won't add more details graphically on the PS4K build? Like effects? Or just maybe the graphical details they are aiming?
Here's a scenario for the devs since you were citing PC games the last time we tackled this issue:
The PS4 is running on low settings (for PC), we (devs) can't just set the PS4K to run in Ultra settings (with better effects like tressfx hair in tomb raider) and be done with it. We will test it first if we set the graphics on Ultra. Unacceptable framerate dip on ultra? Change the graphics setting to medium. Too stable and too solid? Maybe push the graphics to high settings. High settings is a solid 30fps. If we aim for 60fps, some areas goes dip to 50fps after thorough testing which is acceptable. Okay, let's settle for high settings on the PS4K since it's the best output we can get after testing it on ultra, medium and high."
You see, you can't just amp up the graphics on the PS4K just because the old PS4 build works. You have to consider how much graphic details you will increase for the PS4K build since there is also a limitation on how much the PS4K can handle. I'm not talking about only adjusting resolutions and framerates here. I'm also adding details to the game to look better and maximize the hardware capabilities of the the PS4K.
There's also a problem/bug that may (or may not) arise through coding or glitch if you are developing a game for machines that differ on specs even if they have the same architecture or OS.
@BAMozzy There's the ps4 build and the Ps4K build with better graphics. Again you're confusing what I meant by build. There's the old PS4 version and the better graphics PS4K version. There's a difference between the two versions which are the graphics/resolutions/framerates. They will test both versions if it's running on the framerate they are aiming. If not, they'll adjust the PS4K graphics down if they put too much detail on its graphics.
@BAMozzy That's not entirely true. As @Mega-Gazz said, they'll need two builds on every game they develop. The old PS4 build and the PS4Neo build with better graphics which will require both testing (framerates, bugs and all). Unless they add nothing to the Neo and just slap what they did on the OldPS4, then they may not need more testing. Even so, they'll still test it to be sure.
@rjejr I only wanted to say Zeschuk has a point and it will mean more work for the devs fine tuning their games on multiple console configurations, but the discussion went deeper. I'm out.
@BAMozzy
Yeah I'm not reading all that. Like I said, I, Splatburst, would PREFER if they would work around the graphical limitations of the weaker console (PS4 vs PS4K, I'm not particularly talking multiplatform games but it can work) rather than aim too high on the artstyle and graphical direction. Read my earlier post. Project CARS would be a good example. They aimed to high (not a bad thing) and look what happened? The Wii U version got cancelled because they couldn't make it run. When I say run which I think you've been confusing is to run properly on acceptable/playable levels. Of course Wii U can run project CARS at PS2 graphics and/or 20fps if that's what you're thinking. Also do you think, that I think they're making 3 or 4 versions of the same game for each console including PC? Then there's no point arguing with you.
@Napples
I've only played ME and ME2 and refused to play ME3 way back then because I WAS an Origin hater. ME3 wasn't released on Steam and even though Origin is better now, I've yet to pick up ME3. So I can't comment on ME3
@BAMozzy Again you're comparing it to PC where the devs don't have to test for each configuration of PCs. It's up to the PC gamers to tweak it how they want.
This is a console we're talking about where there will only be two configuration. PS4 and PS4K. They'll tweak two versions until they're satisfied with the performances. It could even affect the art style or the scope of the game they are aiming for IF there is a significant graphical power differences between the two (that's why I said earlier they should develop for the weaker PS4 FIRST IN MIND so by the time they "tweak" the game to run in it, it won't take too much graphical hit or downgrade on what they aimed the game for). The developers will be responsible how both versions will run, unlike on PC games where the users are the one who makes the adjustments. That's the point of Zeschuk, it will mean more work for them.
Also I get the impression that you are arguing with me if Sony should or should not release a PS4K, if it's a good idea or not, or that gamers should accept it's a good thing. As I said and I'll say it again, I don't mind if Sony releases a PS4K. You should argue with those who are against it. Not me.
@BAMozzy
So you're saying they won't tweak the game at all? No visual enhancement on the more powerful machine? Because it'll surely work on a more powerful console. If that's the case, that brings to my other point, the more powerful machine will be underutilized. To some, it's not a big deal. To others, it may not be enough reason to upgrade. To another, they may not be getting their money's worth because they're not getting their PS4K's full potential. Does Sony wants that? Maybe, maybe not.
Now if they tweak it to add visual enhancement, then there's extra work for the devs (the point of Mr. Zeschuk) to test if they've tweaked enough, or it needs more, or they've tweaked it too much. They'll need test the whole damn game if it runs smoothly throughout. It may become worst when they'll need to patch the game later either. It maybe buggy on the other version while it may run smoothly as before on the other. If they tweak or add a feature to the game later, it may run flawlessly on one while it may present a problem on the other which they may not foresaw when they initially released the game.
To gamers who have the old one, expect some of them will feel they'll be playing an inferior version of the game knowing the PS4K is better. You know how entitled gamers are now. They may not still be open to the idea of upgrading consoles so soon.
Either way, someone will be affected and won't be pleased. As a consumer, I personally don't mind if they release a PS4K. I actually prefer if they release a new upgraded console (same OS which means it can play older games without needing to port) every 3-4 years to keep up on game demands (graphically, features, etc).
@BAMozzy It doesn't work for consoles. You don't expect the players will tweak their console to properly run their game. It's the dev's job to tweak it to work on both which means extra work, extra testing. That was the point.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, I'd prefer that they develop for the weaker version first then add some bells and whistles to the stronger one if they want (which will make the weaker version inferior) than the other way around. Or just leave it the same graphics wise with just an advantage of a solid framerate.
@Napples Attacking him on a different angle doesn't disprove his point. This is about developing a game on two different specs where you'll have to test it on both if it runs properly. And if they focus on one first, the other will be an afterthought leaving the other version inferior (or underutilized depending if they went with the weaker one first).
@R17
I'm with @get2sammyb. I'm not sure if Phil Spencer is sincere or not but he's just right for the PR job to turn things around for Xbox ever since the Don Mattrick (self) destruction. I mean whoever replaced Don Mattrick should be doing what Phil Spencer is doing now.
@thedevilsjester
PS4 to PC or PS4 to PS3 yes. But PS4 to XBox One or Wii U/NX? It would mean:
"Let's water down the game features to accommodate multiplatforms and let's forget each hardware's unique selling points (or feature) so it won't have advantages/disadvantages with the other". (or let the hardware disparity and in-game features as is and have an unbalance gameplay between different consoles)
It could work on some games like coop and turn based games. But competitive twitch/skill based games? I think it's a bad idea. "PC would rekt consoles" as someone put it if they'll do it on shooters.

Just Naughty Dog being Naughty Dog. Most visually stunning on the PS4, yes.
