Following yesterday's not-so surprise news, Square Enix has released a trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider on the PlayStation 4 – but you'll need to sit through a few minutes of nostalgia before you get to it. The embedded video looks back at 20 years of Lara Croft, and should prove particularly sweet for PlayStation fans, seeing as the character is so deeply ingrained into the PSone's DNA.
Elsewhere, the publisher has said that it's targeting 1080p, 30 frames-per-second for the PS4 version of the game – but there's still optimisation to be done ahead of the title's 11th October launch. "Anything beyond [1080p, 30fps] is a bonus," a spokesperson told Videogamer.com. As per leaked PS4K documentation, Sony is mandating Neo compatibility in October, so maybe this will be one of the first titles to take advantage of the new hardware.

On XB1, the majority of the game runs at 1920×1080, but it seems that cutscenes are only rendering at 1440×1080 - according to Digital Foundry. There are occasional frame rate drops too - although I believe this was improved with patches - I know it felt smoother to me.
I have seen a few 'comparison' video's and appreciate they are not the best way to compare and the game was using the pre-alpha PS4 build and apart from a bit of softness in 1-2 scenes, the game looked identical to me.
I would be very surprised if the 'overall' performance can't match the XB1 version and having played through that, the game certainly looks great - not Uncharted 4 levels which in my opinion is the best looking console game to date, but still a great looking game....
God of war is the best looking game
Lara Croft > Nathan Drake
@BAMozzy God of war is the best looking game ever.wowwww.the man .the icon .the legend.kratos
10/1 price on Tomb Raider Definitive Edition for Plus in the next couple of months now?
I wonder how the PlayStation community will take to this, while some say their boycotting it or getting it preowned in protest. I do wonder whether there's a benefit in it selling well on PS4 as a way of saying to Square Enix "hey this was where the TR fan were all along" .
@playstation1995 Hahahaha very funny!! God of War may have been one of the best looking games in 2005 but in 2016, the best game so far released on console in my opinion is Uncharted 4.
God of War - the new PS4 game looked good at E3 but that was quite a limited part of the game and hasn't yet been released yet. It also had less technically impressive features as the world was a lot more 'static' - the snow falling of the tress was quite nice as were the footsteps but not as technically impressive as many of the things happening in Uncharted 4. Of course by the time it releases, and we get to see more of what the game offers, it could be as impressive or more so than U4 but as it hasn't released yet, it also doesn't count as the best looking game on Console to date!
'Targeting' 1080p, 30 frames per second? Please tell me Nixxes is not so incompetent that it can't hit that with ease. PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One, they've had plenty of time to work on the port and when games like Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted 4 exist, there is no reason for it to even be a question if they can get this going 1080p, 30. Hell, they should be able to get it going 1080p, 60 easily.
The first reboot (tr 2013) is 60 fps on ps4, why the sequel getting worst fps. I wish they set the fps to 60 and then upgrade their engine rather than sacrificing frame rate for graphics.
Oh well, that's the ps neo is for.
@wiiware
TR Definitive was 60 fps on PS4, 30 on Xbox One. Rise of the Tomb Raider was originally made for the lowest common denominator so that's likely part of the problem. The other part is while it shouldn't be too hard to improve the framerate it will take some extra work and they can't be bothered with that.
@Gamer83 The why isn't every game on PS4 1080p60? Because it's not as simple as all that. I get the frustration, I do, but honestly if you ever get involved in game development you'll soon find out it's not just a case of developers being 'incompetent', which is a ridiculous generalization.
Anywho, I've put in my pre-order for Tomb Raider. £39 with an artbook and all the other goodies was too tempting. Very much looking forward to it!
If Lara's hair looks as good as it did in the last one then I'm 100% in for this!!!!
Jokes aside, really look forward to playing it
I think Lara is awesome, in the last game she took more damage than the Terminator and still killed hundreds of people in a variety of quite horrid ways. Fair play.
