I wouldn't exactly label it as sloppy seconds. I thought the game was excellent and quite underrated. Even with the likes of The Last of Us on the PS4, there's surely a market for this type of game on the console. The real problem is, what made the title unique is gone in the absence of the gamepad, though I imagine there could be some interesting workarounds with the DS4's gyro sensor and touchpad. They also have the second screen with the PlayStation app or the Vita, though it wouldn't have the same punch as the Wii U gamepad. Of course I could see them implementing the inability to pause and the inventory screen popping up in some sort of snap mode.
@get2sammyb honestly from a pure suspense standpoint ZombiU hands down, though TLoU is definitely nothing to sneeze at, but like you said, totally different games and styles for that matter.
Awesome story! I like to show what I'm currently gaming to my family. My mom in particular eats it up. She's 71 this week and she actually played a couple rounds of Splatoon which was pretty entertaining to see! Arkham Knight and games like that are a little too dense for her, but she loves to watch me play when she's over and gets totally sucked in the gameplay and story to the point that when I turn it off, she's like, "oh you're through? I wanted to see what happens next!" though Ms. Pacman and NES Pinball still has her heart. Haha
@Boerewors I agree. I love Sony's games, but I tend to feel at times, particularly in Naughty Dog's case, rely heavy on QTE and cinematics. That Uncharted 4 sequence is top notch, no question, but how much of that do you control with more than one or two button presses at key moments?
@ShogunRok I know I'm late (had some things to do) but I wanted to drop in and let you know that you guys are a-ok to me! I personally didn't even really have a beef with the article and was just playing devil's advocate by looking at multiple POVs. I wouldn't ever question you or your staff's journalistic integrity, so if my comment came across that way, I should be the one apologising, I'm one that's more for healthy, even discussion, rather than being a disruptive force.
For what it's worth, you guys (and your sister sites) are top notch and are one of the very few places I'll even go for Sony, MS, and Nintendo news. So yea, I said that to say this, keep up the good work!
@ShogunRok I totally come in peace (and I'm sure my Link avatar doesn't help assuage any fears haha), but to be fair, the article didn't add the reason why Nintendo double-crossed Sony, as @BLP and NintendoLife pointed out. I don't think PSquare was coming off on the offense, I just think it makes the tone of the story sound fanboish and unbalanced, as I too was looking for an article on gaming history (I know, I know it's a fan site, what should I expect? Lol) Though in Push Square's defense, the N-Life article is linked, so there's that.
There hasn't been a whole lot on the PS4 (outside of third party games that I can find on XB1) that has wowed me, let alone give me a reason to dust my system off. After watching this video? Perception changed. Uncharted 4 shot up on my must buy list. I'm excited about this now almost as much as I am Tomb Raider!
"Greatness Awaits" seems like an appropriate joke for this situation...
Seriously not a big deal. Hopefully results are being saved and those will be uploaded soon as the server situation is sorted. I'm loving the game, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't sorely miss the second screen map and inventory management of the Wii U Arkham games. Going back to the old way seems so... archaic now.
Unlocked it at midnight and I gotta say loving the game so far. Probably the game of the year for me thus far (that's not Splatoon) and enjoying the Batmobile sections as well... Even if it goes against all driving game logic as far as button mapping in driving games are concerned. The one fear I had about it has been alleviated: It handles superbly well for this type of game. (when you stack it up against GTA and Watch Dogs)
I don't get the hate for Origins though. It was a tad flawed, granted, but I still thought it was an excellent game. Even the story. Maybe it's my Batman fanboyism showing, or maybe because I played it on the Wii U (which odd enough is usually regarded as the superior version)
Out of all the games on show for PS4, Horizon Zero Dawn is the only one that really grabbed me. I generally tend to skew Nintendo, but just like you can't find Zelda on the others, you can't find Gears or Uncharted on the others as well, which is why I love the luxury of having all three system. I miss nothing as all three platforms are awesome in their own right.
It appears to be all new story missions and arcs outside the main campaign (not to mention it's not all they have in store according to their Facebook) so this particular Pass seems well worth the money, considering Rocksteady's track record with this franchise. You know the main game will be an awesome, complete story.
Concerning DLC as a whole, the price of games haven't really changed in almost the whole time the industry has been alive, as a matter of fact, it's gone down in some instances (I remember paying $70 for Street Fighter II) considering that game development costs has ballooned, if the DLC is worth it, we're getting a bargain, even at 60 if the game is quality.
That said, only get the DLC that's you think is valuable to you, skip the rest. Afterall it's an option, not a requirement.
@get2sammyb it makes sense to delist it if you're Konami. They've been removing Kojima's name off of everything, it was a matter of time before P.T. was gone, being that his name shows up at the end of the thing. It's stupid on Konami's part, but whatever.
I'm of the mind that Silent Hill(s) will still happen, but who knows what form/direction it will take now. My interest in the game has quickly evaporated, though I still like the franchise as a whole.
I played it for a few hours last night! It's definitely worth all the praise it's getting. I may have to double dip and get the PS4 version this week as well, so I can square off against my PSN friends. Though I only ended up getting the XBox One version because I was sitting on a stockpile of Live Rewards cash, so I ended up getting the premium edition for a song.
Yea the cloud storage situation sucks on the Playstation brand. Though I suppose since it's "free" and more of a convience than necessity, then they can't be bothered with upgrading us.
@get2sammyb @iARDAs though a point of clarification, XBox One has unlimited cloud storage. On the XBox 360 side of things, I think you get around a meager 512MB...
@get2sammyb if this isn't the best fatality I've ever seen, I don't know what is! Of course I've stayed away from a ton of MKX coverage because I feel Netherrealm has overshared a bit this time around, so I do have a whole lot to measure this up against. Lol
On a related note, is there any significant differences between the XBox One version vs the PS4? Like bundles, exclusives, graphics and whatnot?
I feel like you guys need to collect all these tips in an easy to find super guide/article. Or maybe include the links to the other tips at the end of the current ones. It will help me find then easier when I finally get around to playing. ☺
Damn you Sony! I don't need another PS4, but you are sure tempting me to get one. That's one sexy machine... Hmmm I do need an extra one for my room, though.
@rjejr well on top of the cool looking console, it appears that Arkham Knight is continuing that "exclusive content" trend that I abhor. Meh.
Hmmm. I have limited experience with Dark Souls and the like, so I'm not really sure I want to drop any cash on this yet, as I didn't care for aforementioned much. That and my backlog is so huge. But if it's this good... I may have to fold and at least buy when I come across a used copy.
@Alpha Ahhh gotcha! I was hoping for a plug and go sort of solution, being that I'm gonna run out of space as most of my collection is digital. Looks like I'll just have pony up for an internal HDD as well. Do you have any size/brand suggestions?
So if I'm reading this correct, you can't play your games off the external HDD? Meh, I guess it's better than nothing. I suppose I could just keep it attached and move the games I'm not playing to the HDD when installing new games.
I wonder if it's the "suggestive themes" that's pushing it towards the M-rating? I can't really think of anything outside of perhaps some sort of drug use that would affect the rating like this. Unless the violence is a little more generous this time around.
@JaxonH like you, I spend most of my time in the SP campaigns with shooters (obviously with Destiny and Titanfall being the outliers) So that's good to know. I still may get it sometime before the sale ends. Thanks.
Seeing you respond reminds me I still need to pick up FE: Awakening. Haha.
Sorry I got this comment section so far off topic, guys! Lol
@arnoldlayne83 I'm not sure why I glossed this one over then (other than my ridiculous backlog) Sounds like an insta-buy! Looks like I found where I'm going to burn my extra cash.
To jump in on the scary game debate, I'm the reverse. My age has gotten me quite numb to horror. It's hard for me to get scared as much anymore. Zombi U did a very respectable job creating tension, as did what I've played so far in The Evil Within. I've heard pretty good things about Ailen Isolation, so I may have to go with @arnoldlayne83 against suggestion and pick it up
Though the one game (If you can really classify it as such) that really got me was that PT demo. I played for like 45 minutes with lights out and headphones on. Never touched it since. Haha
@arnoldlayne83 thanks for saving me 25 bucks! I didn't realize it was still broken all these months later... Though to my knowledge that was just the online portion. Is the single player campaign a mess as well?
Honestly I was never sure about the game in the first place ,as I was on the fence. The almost universal panning confirms that I'll be saving my cash for something else. More than likely the Master Chief Collection and DoA since they're fetching for so cheap.
Playstation is doing extremely well, I don't see a reasom to panic and drop the price now. I say it depends on the sell margin. If XB1 is out pacing by a small margin month in/out, nothing to worry about, really. If it's a larger margin maybe consider?
I'd almost wager that a good chunk of those XB1 sales were from the non-loyalist gamers. You know the ones who would eventually get both, but only could get one last year and decided on the PS4 because it was a better deal at the time (nevermind the clusterf--- that was Microsoft at that point last year). It's what I would've done if I couldn't afford both at launch.
I think this year will be the better test of who's top dog now that the playing field has leveled out.
@get2sammyb yea, I was noticing that. Also strange is that Just Dance still sells in greater numbers on the Wii, which you would've thought that would be long dead, in spite of the Wii install base.
I wonder if 2015 will be the last year of cross-gen titles...
Ultra Street Fighter IV feels kind of redundant when V is right around the corner it seems. I suppose it's Capcom's way of squeezing another 30-40 bucks out of folks one last time? Then again, if it has every single piece of content IV has ever had, costumes and all, it may be an excellent deal for those who haven't taken the plunge.
@JLPick I'd rather see all three thrive honestly. Because I'm a gamer, not a loyalist. The more options there are, the better for the gaming community as a whole. That's why I've always found this whole "console war" stupid.
I'm not complaining, but it was meh overall. But I got a few things out of it, like Until Dawn, SFV and Uncharted 4. (and some free EA games) so I didn't walk away totally disappointed.
That blows.. Paticularly since I like the Xbox controller for fighting games. I'd trade Tomb Raider for Street Fighter anyday! Oh well, time to invest in a good fightstick! I need to bolster my PS4 collection anyways.
Hopefully this isn't the gen that sees MS and Sony trading 3rd party exclusives!
I tend to be all over the place on the weekends, as I can't seem to just sit down and play through any one game! Ha. So for me, Smash Bros will eat at the majority of my weekend, I may finally start on The Evil Within, but probably not before I chip away a little more at Bayonetta and Sunset Overdrive. and per usual for me as of late, I'll get in a quick game of Madden 15 and few rounds of Killer Instinct and Ultra Street Fighter IV...
I'm pretty much content with mine, but I would like to change it to match it up with my Nintendo and Microsoft profiles, as I like that one better than my PSN name...
Though Sony has a real name system in place, your ID is tied to that, no? It seems if someone was being harassed, they could always just track the username to the original account... Or maybe I'm understanding how their system works wrong.
My launch memory was marred with my electronic store's ineptness. They allegedly sold my paid-in-full PS4 to someone who has my name. To be fair, It's a fairly common fore/surname combo, so I had an inkling of understanding, but it didn't nothing to satiate my disappointment, especially after they called all the stores in the area and told me they might not have anymore stock from 1-3 months!
Though to make up for it, they did get corporate on the phone and I ended up walking out with a Playstation Camera, DS4, a year of PS+ and a $200 credit. That's in addition to my console that I would be receiving eventually! I ended up getting my Playstation sometime after the New Year and it was glorious. Fast forward to the present, it's kind of collecting dust, as I've been gaming on my XB1 and U more, but I plan on breaking it out soon to finally try some of the new features!
To be Devil's advocate, I can understand Activision's logic behind not wanting to enable share play. Like someone said, it's to maximize profits paticularly in a time where I think people are experiencing CoD fatigue. Didn't Activision say sales of the series has declined year over year. If people share play it, they might find out it sucks and not bother to buy a copy. They don't want to risk that. Does it suck for us? Yeah, but hey, we're talking about the guys in the suits that just sees $$$...
"Feudal Japan would work as an Assassin's game, for sure, but I feel like it would start to look like 'oh, have I played this?'
Funny he says that, as I always get that 'Oh, have I played this?' feeling every time I play an Assassin's Creed title. I feel like a Ninja motif would freshen the game up, and I would certainly buy it.
3-4 hours?? And I thought I had it it bad. Last month I wanted to play some Marvel vs Capcom Origins, mind you it was probably like the second time I had touched the thing since getting my PS4/XB1...
It was a daunting test in patience. To get there, I had to download and install a PS3 system update and wait. Then I had to download and install the Playstation Store update and wait. Then I had to wait 3 minutes for the Playstation store to load. Then I had to download and install both game files and wait. When I finally booted the game, I had to download and install an update to the game and wait... Though after all is said and done, I had to wait only 45 minutes from boot to go, so I guess I shouldn't complain and thank Google Fiber. Lol
I still love my PS3 though, it's the only way I can play some of the fighting games that I don't have on my 360, (and not to mention my PS+ collection) My major problem now is that I'm seriously low on space on both. I'll need to upgrade my hard drives soon.
"TR is not even that important. We have Uncharted!"
-@Shellybird27
And therein lies the situation SE was in with TR. Like I've been saying pretty much everywhere, they needed this deal because of Uncharted 4. With both TR and Uncharted releasing at the same time possibly, TR sales would have suffered as a result.
This deal works out for the partners involved. SE gets to make the game they want with a cash infusion from MS, not to mention it will have more eyes on it's product because of the lack of direct competition. Also, it will get heavy promotion from MS. Microsoft will get an adventure game to promote in return. An "Uncharted" for them if you will... At least for the time being until they get off their lazy arse and make their own.
@Munkyknuts like @SimonAdebisi said, I think they'll play around with first and third person perspectives. Though you could still have the game star Reedus and be totally first person, they could just show him in the cut scenes.
@get2sammyb You should have had the option "yes I played it, but it was too damn scary to finish" I downloaded the demo when it dropped, played it that night and stopped partway through because, yea it freaked me out. I just gathered the nerve to finish it last night! If Silent Hills is anywhere close to being this nerve wrecking I'm really going to enjoy it. I haven't been this scared of a game since... Well... The first Silent Hill! I still need to play Outlast though!
@get2sammyb given the state of Xbox One sales, you'd think they'd pare back on the amount of content they provide for the 360 to entice people to upgrade. Unless they give the Xbox One version some sort of definitive treatment. At the same time, I can't blame MS for wanting to get as much as they can out of all their users.
To be fair, Phil didn't say how long the deal was. It seems like he was still pretty broad and vague about it, circling back to the franchise as a whole. Of course we know he doesn't own the ip, or else Sony wouldn't get that other Tomb Raider title.
While he said it could eventually come to other platforms, he didn't exactly say when. For all we know, it could be a multi-year, multi-game deal (at least concerning the main, reboot series) where by the time anybody else gets it on the platform of their choosing, it would be of no interest. If I was a gambling man, I'd wager this is the case. Or at the very least long enough to ride out Uncharted 4.
@TOMBOY25 Yea I'm with ya on that one. I don't really chat it up randoms myself. Lol. Though I have made a couple fighting game sparring partner friends online. I appreciate the add invite! I'll look ya up when I get home from work. Be on the look out for JQuest1981 on PSN and Sir JBizzle on XBL!
@TOMBOY25 I'm the same way. XBOX is my platform of choice, because that's where the majority of my friends game (at least the very few that's actually already jumped over to 8th gen) so my thought process on multi-plat is that if it's a multiplayer focused game like CoD or Destiny, then XBox it is. If there's a huge technical difference between the two as it concerns single player focused games, then I'll choose the superior version. Though exclusive content like in the case of Destiny kind of muddy the waters a tad in my decision process.
As it stands right now like I said above, most of my friends haven't made the jump to PS4 or XO yet, so I'm kind of left playing with strangers. So I don't have very many friends on the new platforms yet, which makes me sad. Haha

Re: Round Up: The Order: 1886 PS4 Reviews Fail to Make History
Honestly I was never sure about the game in the first place ,as I was on the fence. The almost universal panning confirms that I'll be saving my cash for something else. More than likely the Master Chief Collection and DoA since they're fetching for so cheap.
Re: Poll: Is It Now Time for Sony to Consider a $349.99 PS4 Price Promotion?
Re: December NPD: Sony Looking to Momentous 2015 as PS4 Sits in Second Place
@get2sammyb yea, I was noticing that. Also strange is that Just Dance still sells in greater numbers on the Wii, which you would've thought that would be long dead, in spite of the Wii install base.
I wonder if 2015 will be the last year of cross-gen titles...
Re: You'll See Sony's Logo on These Capcom Games
Ultra Street Fighter IV feels kind of redundant when V is right around the corner it seems. I suppose it's Capcom's way of squeezing another 30-40 bucks out of folks one last time? Then again, if it has every single piece of content IV has ever had, costumes and all, it may be an excellent deal for those who haven't taken the plunge.
Re: Yay! PS4 Passes One Million Units in Japan
PS4! Sales! Confetti! Fireworks! Yay!
Edit: though seriously good stuff
Re: The PS4 Has Surpassed a Staggering 18.5 Million Units Sold Worldwide
@JLPick I'd rather see all three thrive honestly. Because I'm a gamer, not a loyalist. The more options there are, the better for the gaming community as a whole. That's why I've always found this whole "console war" stupid.
Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think of Sony's PlayStation Experience Keynote?
I'm not complaining, but it was meh overall. But I got a few things out of it, like Until Dawn, SFV and Uncharted 4. (and some free EA games) so I didn't walk away totally disappointed.
Re: Street Fighter V Punches Its Way onto PS4, PC Exclusively
@blaze8937 is Xrd a timed or all out exclusive? Has it even released yet? I don't remember the release date...
Re: Street Fighter V Punches Its Way onto PS4, PC Exclusively
That blows.. Paticularly since I like the Xbox controller for fighting games. I'd trade Tomb Raider for Street Fighter anyday! Oh well, time to invest in a good fightstick! I need to bolster my PS4 collection anyways.
Hopefully this isn't the gen that sees MS and Sony trading 3rd party exclusives!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 48
Re: Ever Wanted to Know Why You Can't Change Your PSN Name?
I'm pretty much content with mine, but I would like to change it to match it up with my Nintendo and Microsoft profiles, as I like that one better than my PSN name...
Though Sony has a real name system in place, your ID is tied to that, no? It seems if someone was being harassed, they could always just track the username to the original account... Or maybe I'm understanding how their system works wrong.
Re: Talking Point: What Are Your PS4 Launch Memories?
Re: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Cracks Down on PS4 Share Play
To be Devil's advocate, I can understand Activision's logic behind not wanting to enable share play. Like someone said, it's to maximize profits paticularly in a time where I think people are experiencing CoD fatigue. Didn't Activision say sales of the series has declined year over year. If people share play it, they might find out it sucks and not bother to buy a copy. They don't want to risk that. Does it suck for us? Yeah, but hey, we're talking about the guys in the suits that just sees $$$...
Re: Ubisoft Reckons You Wouldn't Want to Play an Assassin's Creed Game Set in Feudal Japan
Re: Soapbox: Please Protect Me from the Purgatory of the PS3
Re: Shu Yoshida Hopes Rise of the Tomb Raider Releases on PS4 Eventually
Re: Soapbox: Why P.T. Has Me Petrified at the Prospect of Silent Hills
Re: Gamescom 2014: Microsoft All But Confirms That Rise of the Tomb Raider Will Release on PS4
Re: Gamescom 2014: Microsoft All But Confirms That Rise of the Tomb Raider Will Release on PS4
Re: Guide: How to Get into the Destiny Beta on PS4
@TOMBOY25 Yea I'm with ya on that one. I don't really chat it up randoms myself. Lol. Though I have made a couple fighting game sparring partner friends online. I appreciate the add invite! I'll look ya up when I get home from work. Be on the look out for JQuest1981 on PSN and Sir JBizzle on XBL!
Re: Guide: How to Get into the Destiny Beta on PS4
Haha
