Re: Talking Point: Do Review Scores Have a Future?

ShoryukenKid

Not even sure if EGM still exists , but I used to like EGMs old way of doing reviews, where there were 4 guys , each with their favorite genres . The scores sometimes varied greatly , like some giving 8s while one gave a 5 or something along those lines. Each gave a reason to the conclusion and depending on what gamer you were, you could base a decision on one main review and 3 shorter "second opinions" . Granted you have to read the whole review to fully grasp what the games are about. Simply looking at a score will often make you miss out on some quirky gems that you may just like. I don't know how many "6-7 score" games I really enjoyed more than the 9.5 blockbusters. I say keep the scoring and read the review nothing wrong with having a score arched to a review .

Re: Soapbox: Why We Need More Grounded Games

ShoryukenKid

I agree totally and that is the reason Life is Strange had me so interested . Then came the mixed bag of reviews ... After reading this piece I'll definitely pick this up soon though. Like Sammy said , we need (or at least I need as well) something more grounded like Life is Strange. It may have terrible dialog but I play fighting games (notorious for terrible dialog) so it can't be worse than that right ?

Re: Review: Resident Evil (PlayStation 4)

Had this on Gamecube, about tempted to get this again I prefer RE like this rather than the last 2 . With all the action the newer ones have I don't see how the franchise can ever "backtrack" to how the first few REs were though

Re: Life Is Strange Almost Looked a Lot More Masculine

ShoryukenKid

As a kid I fantasized myself as being the characters in game (in pixilated 8-bit glory) so I usually leaned toward male characters. As an adult however I realize I am playing video games and find that a lot of games with female leads tend to have more unique stories or think outside of the box in ways. Honestly I never really thought about it much though ... I never really cared if the game had a male or female lead as long as the game itself was good, I'd play it.

I like this about push square! It's a very un-casual approach not sure I would have made this my pick, but it does force you to think outside the box. Thinking back, this actually was one of the better and unique experiences this year on PS4

Haven't watched the vid yet as I'm sure I'll just feel the need to pound his face in more..(that video pic was enough). Here's to hoping the authorities nab him and he can spend quality family time with his new cell mates.

Edit: Though looking at Twitter feeds it seems there are a lot more losers coming out saying they "did it"... smh

Re: Sony Really Wants PS4 to Be the Fighting Game Console of Choice

@FullbringIchigo
Agreed, I played fighters on PS2 and thought the controller was great ! Last gem I had a 360 and was forced to get a Madcatz Fight stick because I just could use that 360 controller for fighting games, especially 2d fighters. This time I'll get all my fighters on PS4 and the Daul Shock 4 should work just fine , though I'll still probably get a fight stick just because I got used to using one

Re: Feature: Did PlayStation Plus Represent Value for Money in 2014?

ShoryukenKid

There was pretty much something every month that I enjoyed. I don't mind the indie games but I'm from the NES era so I don't have to have a 3d open world blockbuster everytime I buy a game . The only kicker is that we don't get to access them without psplus . I feel if you buy DLC for some of those, they should let you play even without plus. I'll probably have plus the entire time so I guess it's no biggie. I voted good overall

Edit: I was counting PS3 games as well.

I was really looking forward to this, that is until I tried the beta.... And was underwhelmed by everything.. Handling was absurd , visuals were meh, story was ...well let's just say the beta did more harm than good on my decision to buy this. To bad though as the concept seemed really fun .
