Re: Rumour: Xbox to Announce a 'Big' Game Coming to PS5 at Gamescom

Looks like it's flight sim according to the rumour mill. Might even be flight sim 2020 rather than 2024

Funny how they will sell these games in a traditional manor on other consoles rather than supporting gamepass. That would mean Sony were right longer term as selling games rather than subscription is more sustainable. I would not be surprised if gamepass increased twice next year eventually hitting something like £30-40 a month. They have to claw back all that buying somehow!

Re: Some PSN Services Down and Offline, Sony Investigating

Shaw_Brothers

@ATaco I personally think it's been a hack, or a ransom demand of.some kind for ps stars. Also they keep saying no one will loose points etc but I suspect when it comes back they will blanket give everyone 500 points or something, and ask people to contact directly if they have bought a game in the time period rather than them automatically add. It's going to be a ***** show I recon!

Re: Mojang Is Building a Native PS5 Version of Minecraft, And It Needs Your Help

@Zeke68 thing is AI is the modern way to package in an easier sell for what has been being done for years. Data collection is in everything already, with varying degrees of intrusiveness. The "AI" banner means people are more likely to accept even more intrusive collection, because it means.... Well, AI right? Even though no one actually knows how to use AI some something useful yet and the capability isn't there other than it effectively being a modern web crawler with far more information than previously provided, there is very little intelligence in current AI.

So sure, sign away your data for a purpose unknown when it brings no real benefit to you the consumer! It's a backwards world where until recently companies used to pay huge amounts of money to get the type of data we now give away for free, because it comes under a "feature" banner.

Apple started this with iPods which have been collecting data since then, Google has been doing it since day1, and Amazon is scary what they collect. If you disagree with any of this, your online life will become quite limited and that's the issue - if you don't accept the terms, you don't get much functionality!

Re: Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection Takes PS4 for a Ride This Year

@shonenjump86 MvC on the PS1 was very disappointing, let alone pocket fighter which basically only offered the arcade game barely... The Saturn was the king of 2d at that time, only superseded by the Dreamcast really, which did have the capability to do decent 2d but wasn't exploited as much as everyone was going 3d at that point (except street fighter 3 3rd strike, street fighter alpha, capcom Vs snk 2 and the glorious Dreamcast arcade stick). MvC2 on the Dreamcast will be hard to beat, the single player mode getting all the characters will be hard to beat. Not sure that will come in this version as it's probably going to be the nanomi port rather than the DC one, but I can hope!

Re: PS Plus' Higher-Priced Extra, Premium Tiers Command 35% of Overall Subs

Shaw_Brothers

According to everything I read on the internet, ps plus subscribers hate the games ever month, ps plus extra all hate the games that are removed each month and everyone hates ps plus premium. But if you look at these stats, then it seems everyone is just trolling!

I got ps plus extra for a year for around £53 with 15% psn vouchers + 30odd percent off for returning subscriptions end of Jan (I was unsubscribed for a month). That's about the right price IMO and what it should be offered by standard.

Currently, they are doing 30% off ps premium, so £63 in total for a year of ps premium. I'm still not sure I would use the extra stuff on premium, I have a steam deck which emulates mostly better than the ps5 currently, I would probably only use if for wipeout which used to be extra but is now premium (along with a few others)

Re: PS5 Players Are Buying Fewer New Games, But Spending More Than Ever Overall

Shaw_Brothers

@Ben7982 exactly this. Games were £40 for a good while for PS4 and now they are £70 or more for special editions. So it's economies of scale - lower the price and you sell more as demand will be higher. With digital I'm surprised they don't lower the price even more as they could sell millions more without much overhead.

Also ps plus extra and premium come into this too - why buy games when you get them for free on subscription?

These numbers shows the games market is increasing hugely. So for me that actually sounds like Sony's recent changes to ps plus + making games £70 has actually lowered the profit on the game's overall, where they could have made more with an ever expanding games market.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for June 2024 Announced

Shaw_Brothers

Good month for me. AEW I'm pleased is free otherwise I may have not have played it. Streets of rage 4 was on gamepass and I missed it, so I'm happy I can play now!
GTA could be interesting, if they don't remove it a month or so in much like other rockstar games.

Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

Shaw_Brothers

I adored the Dreamcast as it was the first European console to have a dedicated 60hz mode for TVs that could handle it. I know 60hz isn't 60fps, but games were smooth as butter and it was in effect 60fps. So modern games where they jolt about unnerve me and make me think we have gone backwards.
I have eyes which can really detect the difference between 30 40 60 fps so for me it's vitally important.
Not everyone wants this so I'm not disagreeing with people's comments at all, each to their own. But for a console that advertised itself as ray tracing and 60fps which turns out only the pro might do - this isn't quite what was advertised.

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

Shaw_Brothers

Ok so this becomes simple economics - if you have too much supply you need to drum up demand via a few methods:

  • reduce the price. Less price encourages more sales but less profit on each item, but can generate more profit overall by increased sales.
  • make the product more appealing. In this case, add more software.
  • make a complimentary product - i.e. the Microsoft/apple approach. Not sure this is an option.

So reduce the price or release more software and that will then cause demand to go up, reducing supply and then allow them to produce again.

I played this in the first couple of weeks and refunded the game, rebought it for significantly less (maybe a fiver?) and have not played since. The first game was so bugged though, I shot a gun and for the rest of that game save, everyone was crouching. It was funny but unplayable. If I get the time I'll dip later but really not motivated, besides the new Spidey patch should keep me busy for a bit

Re: Smash Hit Indie Roguelike Balatro Has Sold Half a Million Copies in 10 Days

@Tomato_Goose on day 1 it didn't have a huge amount and much of that has come post game release, hence my point - there is a lot this game can go I reckon, either adding new cards or new modes of play / different rules.

I also compare the two on initial 3 button interface as that's very similar. Tbh it's been about 1.5 years since I played vampire survivors, probably about time I gave it a whirl
