The channel I feel most sorry for is PlayStation Access. It’s Friday Feature day today, and yet I know that their channel is going to be filled with a (rightfully) angry mob
It’s going to be extremely difficult for Sony to market this thing. How do they even do it? They have a lot of good games, but how many of those will be cross Gen, and how many of them will be exciting games (and there is a difference between good and exciting).
And physical lovers like me aren’t going to let them kill physical without a fight, I expect every stream and news PlayStation release to be bombarded by angry fans.
@Titntin I have to be honest, when I first saw you say “the faithful” I thought you were talking about the hardcore physical lovers, rather than the people who just dwell in negativity. Thank you for explaining the context.
@Northern_munkey I think it’s fair to say that all of us hardcore physical lovers are all very emotional at the moment, and that may result in us being snappish, or reading things the wrong way. This isn’t going to go away any time soon, and I’m sorry in advance if I accidentally insult you at some point, because I’m not going to be shutting up about the matter.
@L_R_V I don’t understand your point. In your worst case scenario, I’ll still have a playable version of the game on disc, and the day 1 patches and subsequent patches will be all there on digital anyway.
@DennisReynolds fair enough, bad analogy. The point is that for hardcore physical collectors like myself, this is the equivalent of Sony snapping my neck.
@DennisReynolds let’s put the reverse scenario to your sister’s BF. What if all of a sudden, Valve decided to stop ever doing digital distribution. If you want to play PC games from now on, you have to get discs from stores. Would he see the big deal then?
@Oram77 even if nothing we do works, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t at least try to get our voice heard. I don’t care if some people here are already fed up of the discourse, I won’t be shutting up about the biggest threat to gaming since the crash of the 1980s
@Titntin I’ll stop getting riled up when Sony actually either backtracks or implements some sort of compromise that doesn’t destroy the physical market.
It’s going to take a long time, but in order to do it, I think it needs to do the following:
1. Find some way to keep the appearance of the physical market alive, even if it means a usb game key that just acts as a Switch 2 game key.
2. It must have games that are specifically designed for really hardcore PS fans, Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter, Vib Ribbon, Gravity Rush, stuff that caters specifically to hardcore fans of the brand.
3. COMMUNICATION, they will be completely tone deaf if they just ignore everything and pretend everything is normal once they return to social media.
I don’t know if any of these are possible, but I don’t see a way that Sony can recover the brand damage otherwise.
@get2sammyb You can even include things like Doom The Dark Ages to that list. Great game, reviewed well, huge franchise, and it was just put out there without a care in the world.
@get2sammyb Wasn't Oblivion Remastered launched digital exclusive, only for them to announce a physical disc, only for that post launch disc to be a game key?
@BearsEatBeets Yeah, I'm not expecting Sony to suddenly realise the error of their ways and include a disc drive, but hopefully with enough noise, we can convince them to make some sort of compromise.
@ThePlaystationStan It's not the fact that digital purchases are prevelent which is the problem. It's the fact that Sony wants to completely destroy it.
Yes, PC has been digital only, but PlayStation hasn't.
I posted one of them myself on one of the forums in this site.
I am a near 100% physical gamer, and I refuse to let this issue rest.
We can still buy DVDs for movies. We can still buy CDs for music. Hell, you can still buy modern VHS players. Destroying physical media entirely for gaming is unacceptable to me.
@Vertere I can't see a scenario where PS6 announcements aren't going to be filled with angry gamers. Also what can Sony realistically show that are going to get people excited for it. People can barely tell the difference between PS4 and PS5 games, what's the PS6 going to manage, especially at £1000
@Slayer25c I can assure you, this will not just blow over. We all still talk about the Xbox One disaster to this day. This is announcement is on that level.
@LogicStrikesAgain probably because hardcore collectors aren’t that interested in Xbox. Sucks to hear, but if you go on collection related sub reddits, there’s a lot less interest in Xbox.
@dark_knightmare2 good for you then. I though am a 100% physical gamer, and I am furious that Sony are going through with this. This is WORSE than the Xbox One debacle.
@Deadhunter I’m taking it personally, because this is very personal to me. I’ve been buying games all my life, and now I’m expected to stop? You tell me to buy what I want to buy, but what I want to buy won’t exist in a couple of years.if you love digital, I’m happy for you.
@RobN call me overdramatise, but I think this outclasses all of them. Say what you want about DLC and pay to win, at least they were all for a game that was on a disc (if you chose).
@naruball exactly. And what is Sony actually going to be able to do to hype us on this thing. £1000, no discs, less games, and the games themselves won’t look any better than on PS5.
@MaccaMUFC without trying to insult you, I can’t help but shake my head forever reading this.
Most discs aren’t just coasters, that’s just propaganda. Most discs do have the game on it.
And you won’t feel sorry to seeing CEX go? Are you serious? That store is one of the best things for retro gaming, and you wouldn’t feel sorry if they go?
I’ll be honest and say that a Blade game nevr really appealed to me as a Dishonored fan, but this is not how I wanted things to go. Hopefully Arkans will somehow survive all this.
@DennisReynolds They're doing better than the Western side of things.
Namco have had their fair share of hits, with Ace Combat 8 on the way. Sure, Tekken 8 has its struggles, but comparing its problems with the issues EA, Microsoft, Ubisoft and co have, it's lightweight in comparison.
SE have been pumping out a load of good games, and have FF7 Revelation coming out just three years after Rebirth. Sega have been releasing a load of good games this gen, even Konami decided to release stuff again.

@L_R_V but those games were like that as a pre patched download too

Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Reputation Is at Rock Bottom - Where Do We Go from Here?
@DennisReynolds “a few people angry about this”
I haven’t seen outrage this high over gaming since the Xbox One reveal. If it was just a few angry people, why did Sony feel the need to go silent?

Re: The Outer Worlds Dev Obsidian Is Yet Another Xbox Team at Risk of Closure
@DennisReynolds Terrible time to be a gamer, but an amazing time to be a pundit I guess.
Re: The Outer Worlds Dev Obsidian Is Yet Another Xbox Team at Risk of Closure
This is a dire time to be a gamer. The industry as a whole should be ashamed of itself.
Re: Indie Physical Game Publishers 'Deeply Saddened' by PlayStation's All-Digital Gambit
I'm glad this has been receiving the pushback it deserves. Sony have been taking their positiong for granted for far too long.
Re: PS6 May Not Be the Only Fully Digital Console Next-Gen
To be expected if we're being honest. Xbox won't get as much backlash for it though, because how many hardcore collectors play on Xbox?
Re: Sony's Been Planning All-Digital Future for 'Some Time', Unlikely to Reverse Decision on Game Discs
@IllusiveMan They are dellusional if they think they can go back to business as normal after this.
Re: Sony's Been Planning All-Digital Future for 'Some Time', Unlikely to Reverse Decision on Game Discs
I think what we need more than anything at this point is actual communication from the decision makers.

@get2sammyb Wasn't Oblivion Remastered launched digital exclusive, only for them to announce a physical disc, only for that post launch disc to be a game key?
Re: Everyone's Clowning on Sony's Decision to Go All-Digital, and Rightly So
If Sony think that they can sit through the storm quietly and wait for it all to disappear, they are in for a rude awakening.
Re: 'It Kills My Desire to Develop for the PS5': Acclaimed Indie Devastated by Sony's Physical Games Decision
@Jay767 DVDs and music CDs aren't dead. They may not be mainstream anymore, but you can still get them.

@Czar_Khastik Ooooooooh, I just read your user name out aloud.
My bad.
Re: 'It Kills My Desire to Develop for the PS5': Acclaimed Indie Devastated by Sony's Physical Games Decision
Hopefully with enough noise, we can convince Sony to give us physical lovers some sort of compromise.

Re: PlayStation's Plan to Kill Physical Games Has Spawned Not One But Many Online Petitions
@Czar_Khastik Benefits of physical include:
Having more felxibility as to where and how you purchase games.
Less reliance on an internet connection to merely play the games.
You will be able to install the game at any time, because you'll always have the disc.
You can more easily showcase your library by showing photos of all your physical games on your gaming shelf.

Re: Sony Takes Social Media Time Out After Controversially Killing Physical Games
@LogicStrikesAgain If there were fresh details that would calm the situation down, they would’ve mentioned it with the announcement.
Re: Sony Takes Social Media Time Out After Controversially Killing Physical Games
@get2sammyb this is not going to blow over. Even if they decide to wait now, they’ll have to confront it again and again the closer we get to the PS6.
Re: Sony Takes Social Media Time Out After Controversially Killing Physical Games
@LogicStrikesAgain probably because hardcore collectors aren’t that interested in Xbox. Sucks to hear, but if you go on collection related sub reddits, there’s a lot less interest in Xbox.
Re: Sony Takes Social Media Time Out After Controversially Killing Physical Games
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. How on earth can Sony possibly expect us to be hyped for PS6.
Less games
Killed off beloved developers
No physical
Higher prices
Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Burned Through the Last Remaining Goodwill of Its Fans
@Andy22385 if I recall the Insomniac leak, the only first party single player game to have a higher digital to physical ration was Ghost of Tsushima
Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Burned Through the Last Remaining Goodwill of Its Fans
@dark_knightmare2 good for you then. I though am a 100% physical gamer, and I am furious that Sony are going through with this. This is WORSE than the Xbox One debacle.
Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Burned Through the Last Remaining Goodwill of Its Fans
How on earth can Sony possibly expect anyone to be hyped for PS6.
Less games
Longer development times
Closed down beloved studios
No physical

Re: Just 15% of All PS5 Software Was Purchased Physically Last Quarter
@nomither6 I think it’s a perfectly reasonable thing to get upset about. What has the industry done that’s worse than this?
Re: Just 15% of All PS5 Software Was Purchased Physically Last Quarter
@RobN this is worse than the Xbox One. At least they were still going to offer discs. This is the worst thing anyone from the industry has ever done.
Re: Just 15% of All PS5 Software Was Purchased Physically Last Quarter
@Deadhunter with all due respect, how can you call what I buy stupid when you’re delighted at buying digital data off of a server.

For everyone who purchases digital....Why?
I don't get it.
Re: PS6 Will Be a Digital Console, And Sony Has Huge Questions to Answer About Backwards Compatibility
