@Mr-Cage I’m sorry that you’re bored of the topic, but for people like me who care about physical games, this is a discussion that needs to continue, and a battle that can’t be lost. If that means we need to tear down Sony’s name on social media, then so be it.

@bluemage1989 how is it embarassing? If anything it’s embarrassing to Sony that they’ve allowed themselves to be victims to this sort of deserved negative press.

@Imaculado_Lord please don’t lump us into trash like that. The reason this has garnered so much traction is because we care about this hobby and don’t want to see Sony destroy it.

@Dragon83 That is untrue and a myth. Are there more games lately that are glorified download keys? Yes, but they are in the minority. Most PS5 discs have the whole game on it.

Good. The fight needs to go on. As much as Xbox’s treatment of its workers has been deplorable, PlayStation trying to kill physical media cannot be allowed to hide behind the next great controversy.

@thiagoauler the same story is being posted over and over, because this is the most significant threat to game collecting. This isn’t a brief bit of news that’s soon replaced by the next story. This is a fundamental shift for the worse in how we engage with games.

@Oneluckyfarmer in an ideal world, the backlash will be so big that Sony will have to backtrack on this, and the dream is that is the first thing Sony posts when it comes back to social media.

Am I the type that has shelves to display my games on? Absolutely. I have almost 60 PS5 games on that shelf.

A collector of physical media? Almost strictly. I had to wait years to play Hi Fi Rush, because I was waiting for the physical edition.

@Oneluckyfarmer I’m still arguing there’s a massive difference between Switch 2 and what’s going on right now. I haven’t seen anywhere near the amount of hate in Nintendo that Sony is currently getting.

@UltimateOtaku91 That I do agree on. The Xbox approach was what caused the whole “we have a product for you, it’s called Xbox 360” meme. I want to open up too, but I want them to open up in a way that doesn’t cause more damage than they’ve already caused.

@Deadlyblack why do people think that this is going to calm down any time soon? Xbox has fired about a fifth of its work force, and it barely put a dent in the changing of conversation.

This isn’t a topic that’s going to die anytime soon, in fact the longer Sony keeps on being quiet, the more it shines like a beacon.

Here’s a stat for you. The tweet where Sony announced their massacre of physical games has more views than GTA 6’s trailer.

@rjejr I’ve seen the announcements, none of those are going to have the same effect that Sony discontinuing physical had.

Good news is that those four studios have dound a way to progress without Microsoft. The bad news, everything else.

@get2sammyb Oh yeah, Xbox are shockingly poor at physical games, even when they do put them out.

But if I were them, I'd still put a cheeky tweet out saying "FYI, the next Xbox will support physical media" even if "support" has a bunch of strings attached.

This is Xbox's best opportunity in decades to get a major PR win over Sony.

@wildcat_kickz It almost certainly will, but that won't get as much pushback, because game collectors as a whole gave up on Xbox long ago.

@wildcat_kickz With all due respect to those studios, I don't see that being as big a discussion as what's going on with PlayStation now, mainly because this isn't the first time Xbox has done this.

@Mr-Cage The thing is, what exactly do they expect to happen when they do come back. The angry mob will just rightfully go after them again.

And frankly, this can't be good for the games Sony are actually trying to promote, as nothing that are in the posts themselves are being the focus.

This is extremely naive from Sony if they think that this backlash is going away any time soon. The moment they post something, they are going to be pounced upon like a pack of wolves.

As they should be. This is not an issue that should be allowed to be sidelined.

@Slayer25c I can’t speak for other people, but I’m for one am not going to stop pressing the issue, because it’s important to me.

As one of Sony’s most vocal critics on this site as of late, these all look fairly standard to me. I believe all of these games have a story mode or career mode of sorts. I didn’t even know that Tearaway had an online mode.

Something to be cautious of going forwards, but I will save my complaining about this particular concern until a future date.

@Dogbreath PC gaming isn’t console gaming. One the mai. Reasons why I’m not a PC gamer is because they don’t have physical games. And how exactly is a digital game a better alternative than a physical disc?

Three days and counting since Sony went on a media blackout. They’ve even stopped posting videos on their YouTube channel.

And I also feel sorry for these retailers. Nothing better than going to the local CEX and seeing what they’ve got in stock.

@Oram77 honestly, I didn’t remember that at all. I know I go on about this topic a lot, but I don’t just jump on hate trains I don’t care about (I think I assumed the drm was a technical mishap).

@Oram77 I am open to listening to what Sony actually has to say on the matter, but in order for that to happen, they’ll actually need to open up first. And I don’t class that borderline insulting PS blog as opening up.

@Northern_munkey the reason why there are so many articles is because this is an enormous issue. Sony are trying to fundamentally change gaming for the worse, this isn’t something that should be shrugged under the rug for tomorrow’s news.

@Llamageddon This I don’t see going away anytime soon. Xbox will have its fair share of hate too, but I don’t see people letting Sony off the hook for this. Every time the PS6 gets an update, the heat will be on them, and if a hyped 2027 game gets pushed to 2028, that company will get a load of flack.

@Sweetz because console gaming and pc gaming are different. One of the big reasons why there is no outcry for PC going digital only was because people who wanted physical can go to console instead

I do have massive respect for Shawn. Unlike most gaming executives, he actually talks sense. Admittedly it’s crazy to me that “oh this section of the business is profitable, but it only represents small percentage of the profits, so let’s cut it off.” That’s the lack of common sense that businesses lack nowadays.
