Wow, Ghost of Yōtei didn’t get a GOTY nom. It got so many other nominations, especially compared to Donkey Kong which only got one, and didn’t get to GOTY.
Based on most likely to win to least likely, I have it:
Expedition 33 Hades 2 Hollow Knight Silksong Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Donkey Kong Bananza Death Stranding 2
@Fishmasterflex96 well I’ve never even heard of Blue Prince, and my favourite game of the year is The Hundred Line. I doubt enough of the voters are going to know what it is in order for it to get a nomination that prestigious.
@Fishmasterflex96 PlayStation single player focussed first party games have a tremendous track record at the Game Awards, and the first GOT game got nominated for GOTY even though the competition for that award was equally as strong
If he's not telling us which one, I can only assume he's on about an unannounced game, though it's hard to think of a game that would be bigger commercially than GTA 6.
Maybe that sci-fi game Santa Monica are working on?
Yeah, that was lame. All the trailer did was confirm which X-Men didn’t make the cut (unless there’s some fun system in place where unused characters like Storm could be in the background doing gardening)
@johncalmc I wouldn’t go that far. I can see why the reveals may not excite everyone, but I also wasn’t offended by any of them either the same way shows that debuted Foamstars, Fairgames and Concord have.
I thought it was alright. I’d say that when the State of Play opened up with an update to Dragon Quest 7 Remake, it was pretty obvious that this wasn’t going to be the showcase where we get massive triple AAA reveals.
And there were some games I liked. Blazblue, Nevergrave and oddly enough Damon and Baby caught my eye.
I think Marvel Touken could’ve shown us a new character or two. I don’t think that was too entitled.
The best thing about this generation for me is that we’re getting a lot more quality big budget titles coming from countries which don’t have much history in console gaming, such as Korea, China and Eastern Europe.
Stellar Blade and Lies of P have shown that there’s a lot of developer talent in Korea, so hopefully we’ll see even more games following up on their success.
Can we add “fanboys with overly inflated expectations” to the list.
Not saying you can’t criticise a State of Play if it isn’t very good, but there’s a difference between that, and moaning that moaning that PlayStation hasn’t hired Gabe Newell yet.
Its time once again folks to get a bunch of really promising, really cool looking titles, but then moan at PlayStation anyway because they haven't announced GTA 7, Last of Us 3, Crash Bandicoot 5, that Sony are buying Capcom, Half Life 3, Portal 3, or that Jim Ryan will be imortalised as the Don Mattrick of Playstation.
A dissapointing but expected result, but I'd say the big win here is getting the Stop Killing Games initiative out there more and more. We've already seen Gran Turismo Sport add an offline support, which gives me hope for GT7 eventually, not to mention that with some luck, it will encourage publishers to not make certain games online only.
Honestly, I’m not convinced that the PS5 sales of FF7 Remake Part 3 will decline much at all. The only Final Fantasy games to release multiplatform on day 1 were FF15 and the FF13 trilogy. If you’re majorly interested in Final Fantasy, you’re probably already primarily a PlayStation owner.
@nomither6 Mario Kart Wii is the most technical of the Mario Karts, but I wouldn’t expect anyone to get lapped unless you’re playing against people that really take the game super seriously (as in still playing the game online in 2016 seriously).
I still maintain that any problems you have with NF is a consequence of the original game being a far more skill focussed racing game, and not a party focussed one where anyone can win.
@nomither6 I will agree with some of your complaints. Yes, playing online isn’t particularly fun for the reasons you stated. If you get hit at the end of Tiny Temple, you’ve lost the race and have no way to climb back up. And I 100% agree that the game feels more F-Zero like than Mario Kart.
But for me at least, the original Crash Team Racing was like that too. Speed characters were always far superior to everyone else outside of Penta Penguin. There’s no way you can make the other classes useful without making the game faithful to the original CTR.
The original CTR also didn’t work as a fun multiplayer kart racer, because if you knew what you were doing, you’d beat the opposition effortlessly. In both original and remake, CTR was always far more skill focussed than virtually every other kart racer.
I don’t agree with the Nitro Kart complaints. The original PS2 game had wonky physics, but the track designs were all solid, and in terms of characterisation and visuals, it was the closest game to the original Naughty Dog games, including Crash 4.
I will agree that the original tracks vary in quality, but the only ones I dislike are Koala Carnival and Drive Thru Driveway
@Northern_munkey In a strange way, I thought it made those older games more realistic. You can't just go out and beat Notah Begay III right away, you had to go out and beat the 90 year old golfer from the Pebble Beach retirement home first (and yes, that is a real character in the game).
@Northern_munkey Funnily enough, the old official Tiger Woods games on the PS2 used to have really bizarre fictional characters. My favourite being The Don. The runner up in a golf tournament, in which the winner "mysteriously" disappeared.
The sad reality in entertainment in general is that it really is. Social video takes up so much time of casual people in general (not just casual gamers, but any casual audience of entertainment).
@johncalmc That’s unfair on Killzone. The series certainly had its ups and downs, but it has a unique aesthetic and it does genuinely have a different feel to Halo
The problem Killzone has is that one, the last game was a huge disappointment, and two, how big is the Killzone fanbase really? Going to the Killzone Reddit page, it only has five thousand members, which is a tiny amount, old game franchise or not.
It’s a shame because I like Killzone 2, but in Sony’s mind at least, there probably isn’t any evidence that a new Killzone would sell well, or even be received well.
Yeah, I think every entertainment company is fearing TikTok right now. It’s partially why so many studios have been trying to break into the live service sector.
@MrPeanutbutterz They were. I remember reading the 2008 Guinness Book of Records Gaming Edition, where they declared Halo to be THE best series in gaming. Halo was an event back in those days as you say. Everybody I knew who cared about gaming didn’t have PS2s, because they all had the Xbox to play Halo.
Honestly of all Microsoft’s mistakes, I think losing control of Halo’s quality is the biggest one that isn’t talked about enough. Back in its hay day, it was probably THE representative of all of gaming. Nothing was bigger than Halo at the time, so seeing the franchise in the lull that’s its been in since 343 took over is astonishing.
@Can-You-Believe-Sith Nintendo EAD doesn't have anything to do with developing the core Pokemon games. That's all down to Game Freak and the Pokemon Company.
@Oram77 It doesn't always work like that, especially nowadays where console optimisation is easier than ever. Gran Turismo 7 wasn't designed for the PS4. Crash Bandicoot the N. Sane Trilogy wasn't designed for the Switch. Both of those ports happened because developers were able to find a way to make them work, not because the games were intended to run run on them.
I think the Switch 2 is going to ensure that a bunch of games will still get PS4 versions. If you're porting to that console, I don't see why developers can't downgrade to PS4 also.
RE0 could most certainly do with a remake before Code Veronica I'd say. It is such an annoying game to play through, with little identity of its own after the train sequence.
For me personally, I would need to be convinced that the PS6 can get games developed more quickly in order for me to be hyped, but I’m not sure how that would even be possible.
@Amnesiac "Oh my lord, why are we getting a new Final Fantasy game on CONSOLE. I'm sick and tired of games using complex button combinations to limit the appeal, I want to just spend a few hundred quid on all the best gear so I can own some rookies".

Death Stranding 2
Re: Rumour: An Xbox Partner Showcase Is Imminent, Will Be Announced 'Very Soon'
Not holding out a huge amount of hope, considering the Game Awards aren't much longer after this.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 607
Replaying Hollow Knight while I’m waiting for the Silksong physical release
Re: Steel Yourselves: The Game Awards Nominees Are Being Announced Imminently
@Fishmasterflex96 I’m not denying it’s quality, I just don’t think it’s going to have enough people backing it

Hopefully this means that Limited Run can finally get the physical release sorted
Re: Steel Yourselves: The Game Awards Nominees Are Being Announced Imminently
@Ainu20 I feel that KCD2 came out too soon in the year to be remembered, but I would not be surprised at all if that or Split Fiction get nominated
Re: Steel Yourselves: The Game Awards Nominees Are Being Announced Imminently
My GOTY predictions:
Expedition 33
Donkey Kong Bananza
Death Stranding 2
Ghost of Yotei
Hades 2
Hollow Knight Silksong
Competition is tough this year

Hollow Knight x Super Mario Odyssey.
The inspiration here is so obvious, but there are certainly worse games to be inspired by.

Re: Rumour: Crash Team Racing Could Be Making a Comeback, If This Strange Leak Is to Be Believed
@nomither6 Mario Kart has blue shells, red shells, lightning and bullet bills. It’s very unlikely that a strong player will be allowed to lap amyone.
Acceleration wasn’t the worst in the og game, but speed was objectively the best.
Re: Rumour: Crash Team Racing Could Be Making a Comeback, If This Strange Leak Is to Be Believed

If it’s real then it will probably be shown at the Game Awards. Nitro Fuelled, 4 and Rumbled were all announced at Geoff Keighly events
