Sony recently released a new promotional sizzle reel trailer, starring Thai performer and PlayStation ambassador Lisa.

There's not much to write home about on first appearance; the video goes through several current and upcoming PS Studios titles, such as Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, God of War Laufey, and Kena: Scars of Kosmora.

Here it is:

That latter game I mentioned has raised some eyebrows, however, and it's all because of some blink-and-you-miss-it small print.

Eagle-eyed observers have spotted a copyright notice that doesn't align with pre-existing information: "©Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC," it says underneath footage of the game. "Kena Scars of Kosmora is a trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC."

I've had a look into this, and basically everywhere else I've looked, it states that the rights-holder is actually Ember Lab — developer of the game and its predecessor, Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

However, it's very possible that listings for Scars of Kosmora are simply out of date, and will be refreshed in due course.

While we can't be completely certain, it seems likely that Sony has in fact purchased the Kena IP from the studio.

In recent history, PlayStation has wanted to hold onto IPs that it's published. That much was made pretty clear with regards to Kojima Productions.

Originally, Sony held ownership of Death Stranding, but this was relinquished to KojiPro in November 2024.

It's said that a reason the company pulled out of the Physint project came down to IP rights, too; Sony wanted to own the trademark, but Kojima Productions didn't play ball.

So, Sony is seemingly pushing for full ownership of the games it publishes. With Kena: Scars of Kosmora, then, and this new disclaimer, it would appear it's successfully negotiated with Ember Lab to take control of the IP. It's unlikely the text in the video is a mistake.

Some are also speculating that this could mean Sony has acquired Ember Lab itself as well, but that's a stretch as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, none of this really affects us. I'm sure as we get closer to Scars of Kosmora's release in 2027, we'll learn more about the game itself (and probably who owns the rights too).
