Re: After 31 Years, the Legendary Shuhei Yoshida Bids Farewell to PlayStation

RBMango

I could go on and on about how much of a legend Shuhei Yoshida is. His eye for potential and creative new ideas is almost unmatched in the industry. He's one of the very few video game executives who deeply cares about the art of video games, and his passion is always wonderful to see. PlayStation will absolutely be worse without him.

Re: Until Dawn Movie First Look Reveals Twist on PS5, PS4 Game's Choices

RBMango

I like this twist because it adds a game-like element to the story. Without the player making choices, Until Dawn is just another generic horror story. However, I appreciate that they're making what the movie characters will go through feel more like a game by adding a time loop element and setting limits and rules.

Re: Gardening Puzzler Botany Manor Out for PS5, PS4 This Month

@Can-You-Believe-Sith A major theme of the game is the dismissal of women in various scientific fields at the time. The character you play is a brilliant botanist and you read some rejection letters from organizations that make condescending and dismissive remarks about her pursuing a scientific field rather than being a wife and mother. It sounds preachy, but I thought the theme was massaged very organically into the game. Because you are growing plants for one of her major applications throughout the game, you experience first-hand how brilliant she is and how frustrating it is for your achievements as a player to be dismissed for stupid reasons. Without her ever saying a word, the game does an excellent job of putting you in her headspace through gameplay.

Very good game too btw. It's maybe the best puzzle game I've played in a while.

Re: Game of the Year: #3 - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

@Thrillho "Minus points also awarded for locking the high XP dungeon behind DLC, making the grind for the top level trophy pretty infuriating without it."

I got the platinum and this was by far the worst part of it. It isn't noticeable if you don't go for the platinum or get a high level in the postgame, but when I realized what Sega did here, it pissed me off. Frustrating the player to strong-arm them into spending more money is unacceptable, especially for a $70 single-player game like this.

Re: Game of the Year: #4 - Stellar Blade

RBMango

I'll step on the landmine: I thought Stellar Blade was way overhyped and mostly mediocre. For what it's worth, I got the platinum and my second playthrough was on the harder difficulty, so I've seen everything the game offers and still found it wanting.

Re: Sony Promises It Hasn't Abandoned the Famous Franchises from Its Past

RBMango

Unless leverage means more quality ports of older games, remasters of PS3 games stuck on that console, and new games in long-neglected franchises, Mr. Hulst can piss off with his "leverage". Shoving Shadow of the Colossus and Sackboy into that god-awful Secret Level PlayStation episode is not the kind of "leverage" I want to see.

Re: Naughty Dog Turns Off Intergalactic PS5 Trailer's Comments As Discourse Turns Nasty

RBMango

@Robinsad I agree with most of what you said. I think it's undeniable that some companies cynically use racial and sexual diversity. Ubisoft does this all the time. They talk a good line about inclusivity and diversity while protecting alleged sex pests and treating their employees like garbage.

But I would argue that this Intergalactic case is a different situation because I do not see anything in that trailer that points to it as a cynical DEI woke product. The only examples some of the loudest and most well-known anti-woke people can point to are that Jordan shaves her head, is a minority, and has an attitude. By that logic, Vasquez from Aliens is woke.

I think a lot of the loudest people need to possess more thoughtful criticism and discern the difference between cynicism and an artistic decision with sound reasoning.
