@Darude84 It’s very NieR in style / music… but in all honesty gameplay wise it’s very different. I would say more Sekiro meets Devil May Cry. It’s pretty tough in places, but nothing too crazy… yet…
Story wise they do a pretty decent job, but, I can’t see this packing the same punch as either of the NieR’s, and although I’ve heard there’s multiple endings, I can’t see us getting anything like that third Automata play-through (but then what other game even comes close to that? 😄)
I hope none of that puts you off though, because it’s a genuinely great game 😀
Slicing my way through Stellar Blade. 3 bosses in and I am having so much fun with this one. Genuinely impressed with how polished the game feels. Love the combat, art direction, music… even the ropey English dub has its charm in its own special way.
Personally with the demo, for me anyway, once I got onto the rhythm of parrying / dodging it all felt incredibly natural, and I’m not usually one who’s good at parrying in games (I’m more of a roll guy in Souls 😂), so I don’t see this being an issue.
In terms of censorship. As far as I know the only thing that has been censored is one piece of graffiti on a wall next to a shop sign which was a genuine accident… and even that I had to look up what it said actually meant… so again, I don’t think anyone needs to worry about mass censorship.
I really do want to play this, still on the fence about picking it up today due to the £70 price tag across board on the Sony store and physical copies… it’s just a little bit too much for me to shell out today. But we’ll see if I cave.
Update: I already caved, for those in the UK it’s £60 in Argos of all places.
I actually jumped back into this a few days ago after finally rolling the credits on Rebirth (yeah, I know, I’m a slow player!), and got to say I’m having a blast with this again.
Just clearing up some of the post game missions etc, so anything new on top of that is very welcome!
Would still like to see some kind of daily or weekly challenges / rewards (they kind of have that with the vouchers but they’re only for use with online play), think they’d really lend themselves to this one.
Yoko Taro is so humble. He must be treasured at all costs.
After the demo I genuinely can’t wait for Stellar Blade, but for it to truly capture what made NieR: Automata so special? We’ll see… because nothing else has come remotely close since.
It’s a shame, as it’s a great game. But just among my small circle of friends, several haven’t picked it up due to the day one price tag, and I know a few people who’re holding off because they know all Final Fantasy games eventually make their way to PS Plus and they’re happy to wait.
Closing in on the end of Final Fantasy Rebirth… hoping the chapters get a little quicker toward the end. Still loving the game, but man, some of the mini games have really tried my patience 😂.
Might put off 100% each region for the second playthrough, but I’m going to need to free up some space for whatever’s next. And at a huge 146GB Rebirth might need to take the hit once it’s done until I have time to go back and finish it off completely.
Haven’t had the chance to dip into Unicorn Overlord yet (it’s next on my list after Rebirth… and if there are any Rebirth / Unicorn players, can I play this simultaneously?), however, considering their track record I can blindly and with absolute faith say I support whatever decision they make.
@pirlega That’s a shame! To be fair it took me a little longer than anticipated to get to grips with the combat, but once I got into the swing of it, things just seemed to flow really well for me. Beating the “boss rush” challenge almost flawlessly after it kicked me around for a good few attempts was genuinely satisfying, but I can definitely see why it wouldn’t be for some.
…and I really liked the music! But maybe I’m just easily pleased 😂
At least there’s no shortage of other new games for you atm!
Just someone, somewhere reveal what the new Yoko Taro game he said we’d have information on early 2024… it’s possible this will include it? Right? …. Right?
I tried the demo yesterday, I was already excited and got to admit, the demo blew me away.
The combat does take some getting used to, but once it clicks it’s insanely satisfying. A definite day one for me now. And if this means we’re going to get more games at this kind of quality, then I am in… tight suit or not!
Hollow Knight might be one of my favourite experiences on Switch… playing it on the long train ride into work every morning before the sun was up… it all just sort of worked. (And made those journeys fly by).
However long we have to wait for Silksong, I am all in!
Definitely be test driving this one. It looks great, and anything that’s taking inspiration from NieR has got to be worth a look… but, that’s also a hard thing to get right.
I’m definitely routing for them, but need to see it for myself before my wallet takes the hit.
Although it’s not uncommon for studios to release games in a not great first state, the rumblings I’ve read was that there was a big rush to get the game out before the end of the Japanese fiscal year, which I think is March 31st. Which kind of makes sense I guess… but still doesn’t excuse it.
Shame, I really want to play this one, but I can’t justify that price tag for something that’s going to feel off. I’ll do a Cyberpunk and pick it up when it’s a bit more on the polished side (and maybe cheaper).
@TrickyDicky99 Yeah, I’m not trying to say it’s across the board raves, but I see a lot of them (not including those that solely cover PSVR2) in their yearly review (Gamertag VR, Beardo Benjo etc) still talking really positively about the headset, and all seem to think there’s a lot of life in it yet. Admittedly I’m very new to the VR world / community so if these are not good examples then I apologise in advance 😂
Regardless, I’m having a great time with mine. Which is all I can really judge it on. But yeah, it’s not perfect by any means.
@MomsSpaghetti @Shepherd_Tallon Couldn’t agree more. I genuinely find the lust some people have for wanting this to fail kind of fascinating . I am not by any means a VR expert, but a quick look at some respected VR YouTube channels (even those that aren’t so kind to Sony as a company) and they almost unanimously agree that the PSVR2 is an excellent headset.
If this is true, then a limited time offer would seem to be the way to go. Make people feel they’re getting a deal, get the thing on peoples heads. But I really don’t think the quality of the headset or the games on offer is the issue.
It’s a hard sell for sure. In the short time I’ve had with mine I’ve shown it to people who I thought would love it and have hated it, and vice versa who have since gone out and purchased one themselves… with that being said, maybe demo booths in video-game stores would be a good idea, because a lot of people really don’t know if it’s for them until they actually try it for themselves, and it is too pricey to just take a gamble.
I mean it all sounds very nice! If it could indeed offer graphical quality modes at a full 60fps then it would be tempting… but really it comes down to cost and how long the wait will be until the inevitable PS6.
Maybe if they bundle it with a big game I might be tempted.
I am so torn on if to wait for this or pick up the last bundle they put out. I never actually played MGS:3 due to always owning a certain other console after the PS2… not knowing wether this remake will be a solid snake or a dying snaaaaaaaake, makes this a tricky decision indeed.
I had (and am still having in between Rebirth) a great time with this game, and I really hope they continue supporting it with free updates / quests / weapons etc. would actually like to see weekly or even daily quests Monster Hunter style which could keep people coming back. But let’s see what the future holds.
As someone who’s some of their fondest gaming memories are playing the first Ghost Recon and it’s amazing Island Thunder add-on in couch co-op with their friend as a teenager while blasting out the latest System Of A Down Album… I welcome this move.
Like most it’s still Rebirth for me, and still smiling from ear to ear every time I boot it up. I’m really taking my time (and I’m a relatively slow player anyway), about midway through chapter 4 and it’s just a joy.
Really, really want to play Unicorn Overlord, but think I’ll at least wait until the credits have rolled on Rebirth. Speaking of Unicorn Overlord, I did pick up Dragon Crown Pro for £4.99 in the sale atm, so that’s also lurking in the ever growing library to play.
It’s a horrible thing. Speaking as someone who, while not working in the game industry, but something very close, who was let go in Dec, I really feel for everyone affected (which still includes me at present!).
There is an element of poor choices made at the top for sure, and yep, the lockdown definitely had a huge part to play. As the article mentions, poaching high paid talent from overseas must have seemed very desirable at the time, but it works both ways, and we’re now having the big companies realise they can pay far less for talent in other parts of the world.
It’ll even out eventually. It’s hard to remember sometimes when you’re playing a game or watching a movie that people depend on said games / movies / services to make a living.
I’m hanging out with Cloud and the gang the whole time this weekend… maybe distracted by joining the human race for a drink this evening… maybe…
Still jumping back into Granblue Every now and then to clean up the side quests / level up the characters. Luckily the combat controls aren’t too different to Rebirth, so not too hard to jump from one to the other.
I’m playing Queen’s Blood with the occasional dip into Final Fantasy 😂
Absolutely loving it so far. Really taking my time with it, and basically going “ooooooh” on average every 5-10 mins. The cinematic set pieces are huge, the score feels epic, the combat insanely satisfying and spending more time with these characters is just a joy.
@Martijn87 I did a quick search for a recap on YouTube last night just to refresh myself, and even a suggested search looked a bit spoilery… so yep, definitely watch out.
On lighter news… it’s installing now, so here we go!
@andrix9743 Did you play the Voice Of Cards games? They are pretty much what it say on the tin, but oddly very relaxing with lovely artwork and music… and a little bit of that Yoko Taro magic.
@Areus Automata was my first introduction to Yoko Taro, so at this point I’d even welcome remasters of the original Drakengard games just so I can actually experience them.
I find all the negativity around PSVR2 in general kind of baffling if I’m honest. I totally get that VR in general isn’t for everyone, and that’s fair enough, but (and I know I’m in the minority here) as a first year it’s actually had a fairly decent run in terms of quality games.
The big flatscreen ports (which I’m guessing Sony have paid to have done) such as Resident Evil 8 and 4, Gran Turismo and No Man’s Sky are all incredibly well reviewed, with even more than a few reviewers stating VR is the definitive way to play them.
The indie devs have been killing it with games like Vertigo 2, Light Brigade, Synapse, Walking Dead Saints & Sinners 2, Red Matter 2, Pavlov and recently Legendary Tales.
You’ve got the fan favourites like Five Night’s At Freddy’s and Beat Saber etc. And not to mention upcoming titles like Metro, Arcan Age, Wanderer and Soul Covenant.
I 100% think we could do with some more big Sony titles, and I really wish they’d start adding apps. So yeah, there’s definitely a lot more they could be doing.
Like I said, I totally get VR is not for everyone. I’m really new to it and having a blast, but it’s definitely marmite for some players… but in terms of a first year, I really do think there’s a lot of high quality, well reviewed titles up for grabs, which is more than can be said for some consoles in the first year.
@Kliss88 I didn’t know it was that long! That’s great!
I think for me, as I mentioned before, I’m already sold. So playing up to a point and having to stop I would find torture… even if it is a week or so to wait 😂
Love the fact this has a demo though! I’m sure there’s a few people who might have passed this one by and are now looking to grab a copy.
I’m in two minds to download the demo or not. Im already sold, so I don’t need it to convince me, and really want to jump in fresh when I pick up the game… but it’s ridiculously tempting with it just sitting there waiting to download.
Regardless, this will more than likely end up near the top of my game of the year list, and pretty sure I’ll be wallowing in this one for months to come.
Finishing up the main campaign on Granblue Fantasy Relink (obviously when a game takes most people 20 hours you can add at least 10+ hours onto that for me 😂), all in prep for the big Rebirth on Thursday!
Loving Relink though, and can deffo see me going back to this a lot to play the quests as different characters, level them all up etc.
My main issue is how I’m going to juggle my time between this and Rebirth. Luckily they should be different enough to be able to have both going simultaneously. In theory 😂
A boss as tough as tough as Malenia AND a new poison swamp! I guess my neighbours better get used to hearing me repeatedly screaming and swearing at the TV again!
Honestly can’t wait. Still debating wether to start a new character or not for this, but if past FromSoft DLC’s are anything to go by this will be way tougher than the base game, so maybe those souped-up boss weapons will come in handy!
But the big question is… which boss will rival Malenia?
Of all the horror franchises to get a game, this was not one I was expecting. Cool though! Unfortunately I’m not really into these kinda games. I tried Dead By Daylight and just couldn’t get into it, but it’s great to see these games keeping these franchises alive and kicking.
I survived the Killer Klowns at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, so that’ll have to suffice for me this time around!
@AndyKazama Yeah, that would be a nice addition. Was nice to keep your skill points though, made most of the second playthrough a breeze 😂.
But yeah, flicking between the two would be nice.
After playing a lot of Granblue Fantasy Relink this weekend, would be really cool if they took a look at that and allowed you to play as every character during side quests. Could add a lot to it.
@AndyKazama Same. I had a blast with Code Vein, and Scarlet Nexus was ridiculously fun, I even picked up all the DLC in a sale. Would love to see more of both.
@ShogunRok Dumb question. Finally jumping into this atm, and I can’t figure out what the floating “Arts” number that floats around your character during combat is.
It seems to randomly jump between I - III… at first I thought it was how many charges I had but that doesn’t add up. I had a look online, and no one else is asking this, so I know I must be missing something obvious here 😄
Edit: I realised what it is… it’s charging up the strength of them. I’m a dummy. Enjoying the game though! It’s oddly addictive!
@Shepherd_Tallon Awesome stuff! I’m kind of new to VR, and I very quickly realised that things look so much better in the headset than on screen! Haha.
It sounds excellent, and from what I understand the difficulty isn’t too taxing once you get to grips with it. My only concern is playing it single player. Also looks like a bit of a workout so I guess that’s good 😂.
Hopefully they can add to it if it’s successful enough, so fingers crossed for more enemies on the horizon.
@Shepherd_Tallon I really want to play Legendary Tales, the reviews have been so positive and sounds like a really meaty game. Shame PushSquare haven’t reviewed it yet, since most out there are saying it’s one of the best experiences on PSVR2 around.
Have you played it single player? Does it work just as well?

I’m in two minds to download the demo or not. Im already sold, so I don’t need it to convince me, and really want to jump in fresh when I pick up the game… but it’s ridiculously tempting with it just sitting there waiting to download.
Regardless, this will more than likely end up near the top of my game of the year list, and pretty sure I’ll be wallowing in this one for months to come.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 517
Re: Begin Planning Your Unicorn Overlord Adventure with Free PS5, PS4 Demo
I know I’ll love this so probably skip the demo.
My main issue is how I’m going to juggle my time between this and Rebirth. Luckily they should be different enough to be able to have both going simultaneously. In theory 😂
Re: Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree Sounds Like a Mammoth Expansion
A boss as tough as tough as Malenia AND a new poison swamp! I guess my neighbours better get used to hearing me repeatedly screaming and swearing at the TV again!
Re: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Out for PS5, PS4 on 21st June 2024
Honestly can’t wait. Still debating wether to start a new character or not for this, but if past FromSoft DLC’s are anything to go by this will be way tougher than the base game, so maybe those souped-up boss weapons will come in handy!
But the big question is… which boss will rival Malenia?
Re: Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game Brings Goofy Asymmetrical Horror to PS5 in June
Re: Despite Recent Success, Bandai Namco Reveals It Cancelled at Least Five In-Development Games
Re: Despite Recent Success, Bandai Namco Reveals It Cancelled at Least Five In-Development Games
@AndyKazama Same. I had a blast with Code Vein, and Scarlet Nexus was ridiculously fun, I even picked up all the DLC in a sale. Would love to see more of both.
Re: Granblue Fantasy: Relink (PS5) - Fantastic Action RPG Finally Takes to the Skies
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 516
@iPaud I really enjoyed it! It has a few different mechanics from Souls in terms of the Umbral lamp, which leads to some pretty cool puzzle sections.
I did have some major framerate drops though, especially in areas with large groups of enemies.
Overall though, I thought it was a decent game, and definitely scratches that itch if you’re looking for a new Souls-like experience
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 516
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 516
