Re: GTA 6 Physical Edition Doesn't Come with Discs, It's a Code in the Box

MikeOrator

@Dogbreath

So you completely ignore the entire problem of data centers in your equation. Where are they going to store all the data needed to supply the entire globe with the streaming power needed to download all these games, and never mind the streaming that is inevitably coming? How much off-site processing is that going to take for all the gamers in the world? How much of an environmental impact will that make? Additionally, why even sell an empty case? If it were about the environment, this would have been a digital storefront-only sale.

The ONLY reason this digital-only future is being pushed is to eliminate the entire used games market and keep people from sharing. If you don't think that Rockstar has calculated how many additional purchases will be made if we can't trade our game in to be resold to someone else. They sold 230 million copies of GTA5, can you imagine how many more that would have been if it were digital only? I can guarantee Rockstar has run the numbers, and even if it's only 10% more copies sold, that's 23 million more units. 23m x $60 is an additional 1.3 billion in sales, and at some point after everyone has been paid, this revenue becomes pure profit. I don't care if the disc that's included only points to the server to download the entire game; at least it will keep doing that over and over again for whoever has the disc. But a download code is a slap in the face.

But finally, why this game? The most anticipated piece of media in the last 5 years, and Rockstar is going to pump the price up to $80 US and force us to go digital. It's to push profits and push profits only, and it's ludicrous to defend it.

@Dogbreath

Don't tell me what I need.

Also, are we not up in arms about data centers using all the fresh water on the planet? First, it's "download only" games and then eventually it's "streaming only" through these same data centers everyone is freaked out about. Don't tell me it's an environmental choice when it's just one disaster or another.

I said in this post already that everyone piled on Ubisoft when they said to get used to not owning your games. Now the industry darling Rockstar actually does it and makes us pay an extra 30 bucks for the "privilege" SMH

Re: GTA 6 Physical Edition Doesn't Come with Discs, It's a Code in the Box

MikeOrator

I posted this on another story, but I want to drop it here for prosperity's sake.

It goes a little something like this:

"No physical Disc?!?!?!? Am I really going to pay 110 bucks Canadian for this thing and not get an actual game disc??!?!??

I guess I will wait for the Limited Run edition.

Didn't we get all angry at Philippe Tremblay from Ubisoft for saying, "get comfortable with not owning your game," yet here we are. Rockstar actually goes and does it at a ludicrous price, and everyone is still lining up at the trough to eat our own a*sh*l*s.

This is where we are supposed to make a stand. If we buy this game now, like this, we will never see a physical disc again.

Screw Rockstar, screw GTA6, and screw all the Physical-forever people who will still buy this game with a piece of paper in a box."

Re: Poll: How Much Will GTA 6 Cost?

MikeOrator

I think that the day this game goes on presale will generate more internet traffic than has happened, in total, since the last game was released. I personally cannot wait to sift through 50000 slightly different versions of the same thumbnail on YouTube, all crying about whatever price it shows up at. SMH...as if some YouTube "influencer" is not going to buy it anyway. Then we will have relative calm until it's time for these "critics" to cry they didn't get a review copy...

Re: GTA 6 PS5 Pre-Orders Open on 25th June, Cover Art Revealed

MikeOrator

@Nexozi

At this point, I think that anyone who is not buying GTA6 is doing it to be contrary...lol. I kid. I too am really looking forward to both those games as well, but first is CONTROL Resonant me.

I was only trying to illustrate in my first post how the actual hype that is going to start surrounding this GTA6 launch is that there will be NO ONE ANYWHERE that will not be aware that this game is coming out. My second post was that those that are hyped for the game are not gonna care at all how much they are going to pay.

Re: Preview: Like a Greatest Hits Game, Remedy Peaks in Control Resonant

MikeOrator

I have a physical, steel book preordered for this. I personally cannot understand why more people aren't super hyped for this game. I mean, it looks better and more creative than Wolverine right now. But the small detail that has me convinced this game is peak is that animation of the weapon in Dylan's hand constantly vibrating and shaking his arm as he can barely contain whatever aggressive/fishing with dynamite power is inside it.

Re: GTA 6 PS5 Pre-Orders Open on 25th June, Cover Art Revealed

MikeOrator

I am not one to get super excited. I mean, I look forward to and anticipate, but I don't do super excited. The hype surrounding this game from now until its release is going to convince even those who don't own a way to play games to get one, or they are missing out. My 80-year-old mother is going to have FOMO for this game. My Grandpa's brother, who drowned in the 1930's, is going to be debating the console he wants. Even Jack Thompson is pre-ordering from 5 different websites, hoping one of them ships early. This is going to be the most epic game launch since the PS3 era and will probably shape video games for the next 10 to 15 years.

Oh Ya - Physical

Re: PS5 Fans Think Sony Is Pushing God of War Laufey Harder Than Wolverine

MikeOrator

Every game that comes out, it seems, either has the Left calling me a pedophile or the Right calling me woke. I have learned to ignore the culture war for the most part, but it is exhausting. I am actually a good enough critical thinker that I can sometimes even see how both sides arrive at their conclusions. I did take a long break from even going onto forums and comment sections and talking about this stuff as it was (and still is) ridiculous.

I am, however, starting to think that a lot of the crazies in these Twitter battles are not even gamers, and the YouTube grifters are just playing into it all for the clicks. Asmongold, Upper Echelon, or LegacykillaHD have created a cottage industry mocking both developers and gamers. The engagement these guys get is actually quite impressive for what is essentially a troll with a free copy of Adobe Premiere.

Anyway thats enought for my first post in over a year...lol...

Re: Ghost of Yotei Continues to Iron Out Its Minor Flaws with PS5 Patch

MikeOrator

@Rich33 @AdamNovice @PloverNutter

and if it come right now to it, take of the side panels and blow an actual fan right into the Playstation's vents. This is the unfortunate situation that I am in. Not just with this game but with all games. I will crash after about an hour of play with no record of the crash. I have to physically unplug my unit and them my Playstation just treats it as an illegal shutdown.

Re: PS Plus Essential PS5, PS4 Games for March 2025 Announced

MikeOrator

@UltimateOtaku91

You know why people are dunking on this game. Their thinly veiled dog whistles have become slogans. Their hate has nothing to do with whatever crap they claim, and everything to do with their views on human rights and how they feel certain groups should not have them.

Re: What Time Is PlayStation's State of Play for February 2025?

MikeOrator

I look forward to the over-the-top reactions to everything said on the SoP by anyone for any reason. Be it out-of-context bad takes, cries of wokeness, whinging about art direction, vailed misogyny or racism, overt misogyny and racism, the cries to oust CEOs, or just complaining there is not enough "gameplay" in announcement trailers. MMMM, tasty modern gaming attitudes...

Re: Capcom Seems Sold on Using AI to Help Out with Game Development

MikeOrator

Already artists are embracing AI to make certain creation tasks easier. Generative AI in Photoshop is helping photographers create something unique with their work. Generative AI could be used in the initial design phase of video games to help hash out themes, script outlines, or storyboards. It's not all bad as long as the ARTIST uses AI to make THEIR life easier.

The problem arises when a half-dozen people in marketing or management do the same thing and eliminate the artist.

Re: Astro Bot 'Almost' a Nintendo Beater, Says Reggie Fils-Aimé

MikeOrator

@Rich33

I sure miss Reggie in a more "everyday" capacity in the games industry. Knowing he is still involved in an advisory/mentoring role is great as he has always been such a cheerleader for the hobby. How he was able to balance the business side with the fandom side of games is something that has been lost with the current crop of CEOs

Re: Astro Bot 'Almost' a Nintendo Beater, Says Reggie Fils-Aimé

MikeOrator

@Rich33

I understand that it's subjective, and I don't "worship" all the Mario games. However, it's nice to have a (slightly tongue-in-cheek) discussion about actual video games rather than bickering about other topics that occasionally hijack these comment sections. I still think Reggie's comment was more of a "welcome to the club Team Asobie" than a jibe.

Re: Astro Bot 'Almost' a Nintendo Beater, Says Reggie Fils-Aimé

MikeOrator

@Rich33

Not quite correct.

1)Reggie does not work for Nintendo so he is shilling for nobody.
2)Astro Bot is a fantastic game but is not superior to Mario
3)It should be considered a compliment for an ex-Nintendo CEO to say your game is very close in quality to a product that has had 3 decades of ideas and refinement to build upon.
