It's summertime. No big releases, lots of extra time. These games, just like AC: Black Flag, are being offered for sale at the correct time. Neither of these franchises would have pulled these numbers if it were already September.

This game is a decent light summer game that we are familiar with and can get into and out of easily. Ubisoft needs to realize that these amazing sales numbers are not going to last, and they shouldn't get ahead of themselves. Let it be what it is. It's a good game, but it's not all that. I could also be doing extra numbers at retail as a protest because of the situation that shall not be named.

I guess I'm just disappointed we are not all on the same team instead of half the community thinking the other half are dicks. This is only going to affect the fans passionate about it to argue with each other, and not the other 90% of people who just want COD and Fortnite. I buy from EB Games in Canada. They are not the same as Gamestop, as a Canadian just bought out the Canadian branch of Gamestop and renamed it EB Games again. Their business model isn't much different, though, as it's now about Pokemon cards and plastic figures, but they still bring in the latest games and take trades on used. It's a family-friendly place where they know my name and tell me what's new in stock. Great folks working there.

Yes, you are right, that is a larger part of the entire fight. But we should be fighting for that regardless of the decision to kill physical games. But why can't we still have both? Like Vinyl Records, Blu-rays, CDs, and books.

But that is still not the point of my ORIGINAL statement that bothered you so much. I still want to know why it's ANTI PHYSICAL. How are physical games affecting digital purchasers? What problems have arisen for the digital option because we can also buy it physically? Don't give me Sony's perspective, give me a digital game buyer's perspective. I see no reason for anyone who buys games in any capacity to be as vitriolic towards those of us who still want Physical. Physical Game buyers don't want digital to end; we want the option. But some of those that buy digital only are cheering on the elimination of physical...WHY!

Still, it's a PlayStation site talking about PlayStation stuff, so it's just natural that a lot of us are coming here to process whatever we need to process. And why wouldn't a website use that to its benefit? They have mouths to feed with word counts and engagement, so all the power to them.

But I don't think it's Push Square having a few extra articles on a trending topic that is creating this toxic anti-physical rhetoric. It's fine if someone wants an entire digital catalogue; they can have that today if they desire. I am not going to deny them their digital catalogue. So I asked the question, why do the supporters of digital media feel that they need to be so obnoxiously against physical media?

We come here to discuss PlayStation; playing the games is only a small part of following the brand. If you don't like certain articles, don't read them; you still have that freedom.

It still astonishes me that some digital game enjoyers have gone from: "ya I buy all my games digitally, it's just so much more convenient for my lifestyle" to "physical games are stupid and anybody who still wants them is a stupid dumb dumb head"

Control Resonant has taken a beloved strong female lead and swapped it for a male character we only know from cut scenes. Yet I do not hear anyone complaining that a Control franchise needs Jesse to be considered a Control game. Maybe, just maybe, the studio is doing what they want so as not to become stale and boring

First off, God of War, the Greek saga, became stale, which is why we got GOW 2018, to REBOOT the series. Now we have had 2 long-ass games where we listen to a grumpy dad and his whiny kid slog through the Norse drama, where a bunch of dudes have made it so everyone is mad at everyone else. Besides, the most interesting character in either game was Freya.

I, for one, am ready for a fierce warrior Jotunn to destroy everything in her path to escape the realm where it seems every "God of War" goes after they "die".

And as long as it comes on a physical disc, I will be there day one!

It's not so much the argument that digital is more convenient or easier to use; we all know that it is. My Portal works way better with my digital games than trying to stream my PlayStation over WiFi (although that could be by design). My issue is not even that Sony is trying to do this; they are a profit-driven company just trying to extract more wealth from us plebeians, it's what they do. Sure, it's frustrating and disappointing, and I wish we didn't need to be having a conversation about it.

My real upset about this is finding out that what seems like half the gaming community is so Anti-Pysical. These people don't just prefer digital, but actually think Physical is pointless and that those of us who want it are idiots.

I have Spotify, and most of my music listening is on it, but I can still buy the music on vinyl, cassette, or CD. I have 2 or 3 streaming services for movies and TV, and most of my viewing is done that way, but I can still go out and buy a Blu-ray. Not to mention all the physical books we can still find in bookstores and libraries.

Why, though, when it comes to games, are the Anti-Physical crowd so toxic about it? What do they have to gain by cheering on a digital-only future? I don't care if they want to go all digital, but why do they insist I should be expected to like it as well?

Ya, it's an early fricking tailing mission at sea. I seem to remember that early naval battles were tough until you upgraded your ship. But why can't it restart at the beginning of the battle? Why do I have to go all the way back to the start of the mission and listen to the dialogue again and again? So PS3 era...lol...

If Sony is determined to no longer have games on disc but still distribute boxes, then why not take a page out of Nintendo's playbook? The Game-Key card is perfect. You only buy a licence to use the game, but that licence is attached to the card and not the account it's installed on. This means you can uninstall the game from your Switch and trade or sell your cart to another person. Nintendo also have Virtual Game cards for digital games, that you can "lend" to people on your family plan. Both these solutions could placate the people who like to trade, buy used and lend their games. It, however, does nothing for game preservation.

I can confirm that autosaves are still too few during a mission, and I have to redo way too much to get back to the point where I failed.

Everyone in the comments acts surprised about layoffs, but we don't know how many were temporary jobs designed to meet deadlines. I still use Google, which lays off thousands regularly. I’m tired of being told not to enjoy things for reasons beyond my control—like avoiding a game because the female character looks too sexy or not sexy enough, or skipping a movie because it’s too woke or not inclusive enough. Even reading a book can be frowned upon because the author wrote something strange decades ago. It's just exhausting.

This entire situation has really got me on the side of the doomsayers when it comes to Sony and how they really messed up this generation. If they had just kept on keeping on with how they handled the PS4 gen and hadn't shackled every studio to live-service slop, they probably wouldn't be in this mess.

However, very little of what is in this article is substantiated. It's mostly analysis for analysis's sake. So ya. Chances are, it's just Corpos doing Corpo crap again.

It is nice to have the choice. Thank you for considering others. But to be fair, small indie games and short digital content are not the issue. I have lots of digital stuff, but it's small-studio short-game stuff. However, AAA games that cost me 80 bucks or more should come with a G*D D*MN disc and be tradable, lendable, and sellable. There is nothing precious about wanting the bare minimum from a billion-dollar company.

I guess it’s just the line in the sand that is annoying to me. Personally I don’t care how someone else governs their relationship to their consumed media. I pay for YouTube Premium so I don’t judge. But why has discussion turned to either side having to be 100% right or wrong. Sony is wrong for taking away choice. I am not wrong because I want physical and someone else is not wrong because they feel digital is more convenient. I don’t know. I guess I just expect more from humanity than it gives me back. lol.

How did this turn into a fight between game enjoyers? Those of us who like physical games do not want digital to be removed; we just want the choice to get a physical copy if we want.

I have to ask, do Spotify users think the same of those who buy actual vinyl records? Do those who rent "still in theatre" movies think the same way about those who go to the actual theatre?

This anti-physical sentiment is quite alarming, but I guess it does point to the broader trend in all discourse these days. No nuance, no class, and absolutely no compassion.

ya, same for me, I only bought Origins because of the Egypt stuff, but I don't really care that much about AC. I did, however, get shadows because of the ninja/samurai aspects, but not because of Ubisoft; those chodes suck, but I do love Viking and Norse culture, so I did play Valhalla, but not because it was from one of the most interesting series of the last 3 generations.

Why does it need to be a fight? I don't care if you like your collection digital; have all the digital games you want. But when did it become OK to be anti-physical? People who want the choice on where and how they buy their games are not the enemy. Both things should be able to exist.

But back to Control Resonant. I hope this game gets way more hype leading up to its release. I know September is packed, but I think this one is going to be an all-time classic. Gameplay looks intense, art direction is unabashedly Remedy, and the world is splendidly bizarre. I cannot wait!

You really think ending physical games is going to save the environment? There are many worse issues poisoning the planet than a few game boxes.

Fast fashion is exponentially more destructive to the environment than physical video games. While the manufacture and shipping of physical games create significant localized carbon and plastic footprints, fast fashion generates massive global pollution, consuming trillions of liters of water, shedding microplastics, and producing millions of tons of unrecyclable landfill waste.

Environmental impact is not the reason for the industry getting rid of games physically. If a corporation is willing to do what it does to have cheap clothes at Wal-Mart, but not for game collectors, it is simply a financial decision and nothing more. To argue they are doing it to save the planet is either dishonest or uninformed.

I have RRSPs and other retirement funds that invest in stocks as part of making my money grow. I'm not a financial guy, so not sure of all the ins and outs, but if a person has any investment portfolio, unfortunately, they are a small portion of the investor problem.

I know you guys are just having a bit of cheeky fun, but unfortunately, whether you believe it or not, the Rockstar thing and the No Physical thing have sent some very real and upsetting ripples throughout the gamer community. It takes some of us a lot of discussion to process these kinds of changes. Maybe you guys are going through something similar and using humour to process your grief, maybe not, but the rest of us have a lot of sadness and anger about what is happening. Just because everyone feels this change is inevitable doesn't make it less crappy.

You cannot have a digital-only situation if you won't deliver it like Netflix or Spotify. The reason people have embraced these platforms and ditched the physical media is that, for the monthly fee, you get ALL OF IT. I can listen to 5 centuries of popular music on my streaming app for only the monthly fee. And i can listen to it on any device I want. To me, this is a fantastic value. Or if you compare it to Prime Video. Lots of new stuff is included; a few things are premium paid content, but eventually they're included as well.

If Sony gave me the entire back catalogue of PS1 through PS5 games to stream for a low monthly fee, while also charging a premium for new games at half their current price, which would also eventually be included in the monthly fee. If they gave me that with the PS6, that would be more in line with why I gave up physical media in those other industries.

But to pay them for what will be 1500 bucks in Canada, and still have to pay for digital games at 130 bucks each. Sony is delusional.

The only thing these updates do is mess up my pause state on my resting PS5.

I am sorry I got so heated. I guess this week's announcements have got me a little weary of gaming news. It has been one unwanted shift in the business model after another. I won't go PC as the only reason I game is because of Sony and their exclusives. It's been a rough generation for us die-hards and super fans, and just as it looked like we were finally out of the woods with all the single-player content ramping up, Sony hits us with this devastating bombshell. Well, as they say, all good things must come to an end. I can always enjoy the rest of the PS5 era as much as possible with the few games that are hopefully sending this system out with a bang.

I have said it already even before this but the ps5 gen will be my last gen. Between GTAVI and this I just cant see a future where game collecting is fun any more.

There is no way I will ever be that apathetic about poor optimization and missing features.

Performance Mode @ 60 and Fidelity Mode @ 30 should be the standard. If the publisher can't spend the money to make this happen, then they are purposely making an inferior product and selling it to the public.

It's like a car company making a fast car, but the tire maker only wants to make crappy tires that explode when you accelerate too fast. Now you are being told you should slow down and have an inferior experience because they are too lazy to make the tire good.
