Which paraphrased means the typical speed is 8-9GB/S but can reach 22GB/S.

Ok let’s clear up a few things as I seem to always have to do on these ps5 ssd stories.

First: you do not need a 7.0 GB/S drive they merely said it needed to be slightly faster than their 5.5GB/S drive to be compatible possibly 6.0GB/s even. They did not specify minimum merely “slightly faster”

Second: 9.0GB/S is the typical compressed speed - it can go up to 22GB/s with especially well compressed data

@JapaneseSonic exactly; their approach is “it’s all about the games” and when you realize this it all makes sense.

I know it’s shocking to some people but a new generation of game consoles should be all about THE NEW GAMES in my opinion.

Plenty of time still to go over UI, features and all that still.

Their approach seems to be working well so far too, you simply cannot find PS5 preorders at all after like 10 minutes of preorders opening up each round.

Meanwhile in some markets the Xbox Series S is STILL available for preorder (could’ve changed by now but the fact remains that in some places it was available for a long time), and they’re showing the things that the few people are complaining needs to be shown. The general public seems to disagree about what NEEDS to be shown.

I suspect the flood gates of information will be opening up soon.

@nessisonett yeah, I see a few people here or there making a lot of noise about “ill will” or stuff like that but it always seems to be simply a few people making lots of noise trying to will their opinion into popularity.

What I see is ps5’s selling out as soon as they become available and an absolutely amazing launch lineup (and first year) of games.

In short, just like all the internet outrage it’s simply a few people making lots of noise.

I’m actually going to be simply blocking all of these bellends going forward to avoid having to see this tripe that’s put forth by the same people all the time.

I never once said loads of drives; I said a few and sabrent rocket 4 plus and 980 pro off the top of my head alone prove this to be true! You’ll notice I said in all likelihood that’s not a guarantee or assumption at all!! It is likely for those to get certification as even push square said.

Edit: as for the prices, proprietary tech never goes down in price (at least not for a LONG time) third party tech always drops in price quickly due to competition it’s really not that difficult a concept bud.

The fact is that there are a few drives out currently (or by year’s end) that will in all likelihood get certification to work with the ps5.

And given that the release price of a 980pro is only 10$ more than the Xbox proprietary drive we can expect to be paying much less than that within a year.

What was said is you’d need a drive that’s slightly faster than theirs (which is 5.5GB/s) and that by years end pcie gen 4 would hit saturation at 7.0GB/s. It’s nobody’s fault but your own that you aren’t able to understand simple and clear information.

This is not a fringe, very high taxation situation as you would put it. This is in Canada and all things have the same sales tax, on the psn store they’re simply covering it for you.

@thefourfoldroot for day one buyers of games (which I am for major releases) and for game sharing (which I do with a friend of mine [ps5 is also seemingly going to allow game sharing]), in Canada at least, it is cheaper to buy digital as physical has tax on top of the price and digital Sony seems to be picking up the tab on that as there is no tax on top. 14.50 savings on every new release not to mention only having to buy every second game.

Digital is by far the better option in my opinion.

Also, your assertion that you can’t play at the same time is actually false. You can and me and my friend do all the time. It’s not tricking or “gaming” the system. It’s a feature of the system which they’re also implementing in ps5.

@710King that’s not true at all, they used the size they used due to it lining up with the 12 channels well, but there is no size or formatting requirements at all for the expandable drives- apart from being sufficiently speedy drives that fit into the m.2 slot.

@ellsworth004 there is literally no reason you’d “need” a hdd to play ps4 games. You can use an ssd inside the PS4 to play them even.
