@710King you are just completely and utterly hopeless. I’m just going to block you and be done with it. You’re too dense to realize that the article you linked has proven MY point and not yours 🤣🤣
@710King the entire paragraph which says exactly what I said it does:
“ A custom decompressor has been built into the PS5’s I/O unit capable of handling over 5GB of Kraken input format per second. After decompression, that becomes around eight or nine gigabytes. The I/O unit itself, however, is capable of outputting as much as 22GB/s if the data compressed well.”
Which paraphrased means the typical speed is 8-9GB/S but can reach 22GB/S.
You don’t really understand what you read, do you?
Ok let’s clear up a few things as I seem to always have to do on these ps5 ssd stories.
First: you do not need a 7.0 GB/S drive they merely said it needed to be slightly faster than their 5.5GB/S drive to be compatible possibly 6.0GB/s even. They did not specify minimum merely “slightly faster”
Second: 9.0GB/S is the typical compressed speed - it can go up to 22GB/s with especially well compressed data
I care not if you agree these are the things that were said.
@Nexozi you know there’s a simple solution; if you’re not sure until you get more information simply don’t preorder it/buy it until you know the information you’re after.
@Tacktful didn’t you know?! This is unacceptable according to some. It means the console is feature incomplete or they have something to hide. /Sarcasm
Seriously though I do look forward to seeing the UI, all will be revealed in due time. I’d guess it’ll still be a couple of weeks before we get to see it but I’m confident it will be excellent.
@Juanalf well, seeing as you’re another one that shouts negativity to the rooftops quite often I’m happy to oblige your request.
It has less to do with a “safe place” and more to do with just having enough of the negativity from those who’s sole purpose is to ***** post all the time.
Seriously, why frequent a PlayStation centric site when all you do is post negativity about them? You don’t see me going to the Xbox sister site doing so do you?
What do you think the odds are that I could go over there and find all 5 of the people on my block list not being nearly as negative on the Xbox centric sister site?
@JapaneseSonic exactly; their approach is “it’s all about the games” and when you realize this it all makes sense.
I know it’s shocking to some people but a new generation of game consoles should be all about THE NEW GAMES in my opinion.
Plenty of time still to go over UI, features and all that still.
Their approach seems to be working well so far too, you simply cannot find PS5 preorders at all after like 10 minutes of preorders opening up each round.
Meanwhile in some markets the Xbox Series S is STILL available for preorder (could’ve changed by now but the fact remains that in some places it was available for a long time), and they’re showing the things that the few people are complaining needs to be shown. The general public seems to disagree about what NEEDS to be shown.
@nessisonett yeah, I see a few people here or there making a lot of noise about “ill will” or stuff like that but it always seems to be simply a few people making lots of noise trying to will their opinion into popularity.
What I see is ps5’s selling out as soon as they become available and an absolutely amazing launch lineup (and first year) of games.
In short, just like all the internet outrage it’s simply a few people making lots of noise.
I’m actually going to be simply blocking all of these bellends going forward to avoid having to see this tripe that’s put forth by the same people all the time.
First few added to the list; hot goomba, yourself and medic_alert. No need to respond as all three are already on the list.
This site is about to get much less negative for me while reading through the comments.
@KathyQ I’m seriously getting tired of it too and am considering simply avoiding this site entirely going forward. It’s always the same people too and the misinformation spread around is absolutely staggering.
Like, nobody’s that ignorant. It must be on purpose.
@thefourfoldroot yup despite the “Sony has finally caught up to the wiimote” fools’ implications. DS4 has different colours for player 1,2 etc... as well.
@Medic_Alert I have made no assumptions. I passed nothing off as fact, have I?
What assumptions are you claiming I’ve made exactly?
I never once said loads of drives; I said a few and sabrent rocket 4 plus and 980 pro off the top of my head alone prove this to be true! You’ll notice I said in all likelihood that’s not a guarantee or assumption at all!! It is likely for those to get certification as even push square said.
In short you’re the only one making assumptions here bud. 🤦♂️
Edit: as for the prices, proprietary tech never goes down in price (at least not for a LONG time) third party tech always drops in price quickly due to competition it’s really not that difficult a concept bud.
@Medic_Alert I’m just sick and tired of people making crap up all the time and passing it off as fact.
The fact is that there are a few drives out currently (or by year’s end) that will in all likelihood get certification to work with the ps5.
And given that the release price of a 980pro is only 10$ more than the Xbox proprietary drive we can expect to be paying much less than that within a year.
@Medic_Alert they never once said you need 7.0GB/s. That is a bold face lie.
Go rewatch the video and please tell me exactly where they said that speed was needed. Why do people need to make ***** up to make information fit their false narrative?? It’s pathetic.
I can tell you for a fact that he NEVER SAYS THAT.
Anyone doubting it the video is linked for your own confirmation. What was said is you’d need a drive that’s slightly faster than theirs (which is 5.5GB/s) and that by years end pcie gen 4 would hit saturation at 7.0GB/s. It’s nobody’s fault but your own that you aren’t able to understand simple and clear information.
@thefourfoldroot well, as for the physical sharing it’s possible but not very convenient if , as is the case with my buddy and I, you live in a different city.
This is not a fringe, very high taxation situation as you would put it. This is in Canada and all things have the same sales tax, on the psn store they’re simply covering it for you.
There is no need to assume a provision on your posts, I was simply pointing out that your experience and preference is not EVERYONE’S.
@thefourfoldroot for day one buyers of games (which I am for major releases) and for game sharing (which I do with a friend of mine [ps5 is also seemingly going to allow game sharing]), in Canada at least, it is cheaper to buy digital as physical has tax on top of the price and digital Sony seems to be picking up the tab on that as there is no tax on top. 14.50 savings on every new release not to mention only having to buy every second game.
Digital is by far the better option in my opinion.
Also, your assertion that you can’t play at the same time is actually false. You can and me and my friend do all the time. It’s not tricking or “gaming” the system. It’s a feature of the system which they’re also implementing in ps5.
@710King so you just have no comprehension skills what so ever then. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Direct quote:”but the unit itself is capable of outputting up to 22GB/s if the data happened to compress particularly well” ignorance at its finest with you bud 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡
@710King I literally linked the video that disproves all the lies you’ve told here today.
Hell, I’ve even told you the time stamp to start he says it caps out at 22GB/s at about 17:45 seconds or so. But you were never really trying to give factual statements in the first place. That much is obvious.
Go ahead and rewatch what you’ve clearly understood absolutely nothing of.
Also, 22:00+ for confirmation of what I said for any sufficiently speedy drive that fits into the bay being useable.
@710King that’s not true at all, they used the size they used due to it lining up with the 12 channels well, but there is no size or formatting requirements at all for the expandable drives- apart from being sufficiently speedy drives that fit into the m.2 slot.
@No_Cartridge you might want to rewatch that section again. It was a comment to say we’d start to see pcie gen 4 saturation and that was all, it never once said or implied that specific speed was necessary.

Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@JoshuaTChandler it’s so 22GB/s is 5.5 GB/s essentially.
Or more specifically is transferred as if it was. Which it is, before it’s decompressed for use.
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King you are just completely and utterly hopeless. I’m just going to block you and be done with it. You’re too dense to realize that the article you linked has proven MY point and not yours 🤣🤣
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@JoshuaTChandler basically it can move up to 22 GB/s through a 5.5GB/s drive essentially.
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King you’re going to keep going then? Bloody hell 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King is Joshua also wrong? As well as both sources I’ve provided 🤡🙄
You going to start telling everyone they’re misinformed and wrong?? 🤣🤣
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@JoshuaTChandler exactly right, hitting up to 22GB/S in total compressed throughput.
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King the entire paragraph which says exactly what I said it does:
“ A custom decompressor has been built into the PS5’s I/O unit capable of handling over 5GB of Kraken input format per second. After decompression, that becomes around eight or nine gigabytes. The I/O unit itself, however, is capable of outputting as much as 22GB/s if the data compressed well.”

Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King you’ll see I attached another source that proves you’re just plain wrong. Again.

So now you’re arguing against multiple sources.
It is nice to prove willful ignorance when one encounters it. 😊
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King bud, as I’ve said the truth is linked. Bye bye now.
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King I am not, we’ve been over this before i and I even gave you time stamps to help you correct that glaring ignorance.
It’s not hard to fact check you know.
Edit:Don’t bother replying from our multiple communications to date it’s clear you’re simply not worth my time. Welcome to the ban list.
For anyone who isn’t trolling or willfully ignorant the source is linked in my initial reply to check for yourselves.
Re: Western Digital Reveals First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King please review the source and then correct your ignorance.

I’m not sure why I bother to keep correcting this time and time again, probably because I despise misinformation.

@Bdbrady watch it on YouTube and turn on English CC.

Re: PS5's Removable Panels Could Suggest a Highly Customisable Console
There are going to be some amazing panels available to purchase either through them or third parties I’d say.
Glad this should put an end to all those limited edition consoles honestly.

I said the flood gates would be opening up and they’ve just cracked them open 😂.
Cooling is certainly not going to be a problem, that’s for sure.

@Menchi no, but they specifically mention big heat sinks and fans as being a reason it may not be useable.
So maybe maybe not 🤷♂️, i wouldn’t buy one until after I know that’s for sure 😂

@Menchi that drive is nice but with that heat sink on there it’ll never work in the ps5.

Road to PS5 Start watching at 17:00 and by 18:00 you have confirmation of what I say is true.
The cure for ignorance is true information.
Re: This Could Be the First PS5 Compatible SSD
@710King you didn’t understand any of what they said pertaining to additional storage on ps5 that much is painfully obvious.

@No_Cartridge you might want to rewatch that section again. It was a comment to say we’d start to see pcie gen 4 saturation and that was all, it never once said or implied that specific speed was necessary.

Re: This Could Be the First PS5 Compatible SSD
@ellsworth004 a bit but it’s limited by being USB speeds. Which won’t be the case on ps5.
Re: This Could Be the First PS5 Compatible SSD
@ellsworth004 there is literally no reason you’d “need” a hdd to play ps4 games. You can use an ssd inside the PS4 to play them even.
