Edit: in fact i seem to remember that when they were upgrading to series x blades it could have 4 instances each blade as it was running series s games. Could be remembering wrong though.

@Orpheus79V the first one was absolutely massive. My personal opinion is this one (and likely the next after) will surpass the first.

Holiday release for this would make a lot of sense business wise. Get the enthusiasts right off the bat, then the wave next year during/after the tv show when things would normally slow down sales wise. The Witcher 3 got a nice boost in sales in the wake of the show and I’d expect more of the same here.

And if you did own a ps5 you would know that out of the games you listed the majority are ps4 games and thus don’t even need to use the internal ssd not to mention they wouldn’t even fill the ssd. Surely you own an external having listed the lack of support to store ps5 games on them as a negative 😏

@Gbarsotini because the asking price for doing so would be prohibitive. It’s a cost/benefit argument really. Would spending 50-100 million to get it day one on the service benefit in the short term? Long term? How would that investment perform elsewhere?

Most companies don’t have 70 billion dollars to buy publishers or the investor leeway to have an endless subsidy to lose money on a constant basis either.

@TheArt as a person that missed only one cave in my blind first playthrough I can’t agree more. Without guides you have nearly no hope of beating everything this game has to offer in less than 150-200 hours unless you rush and if you do that you’re going to miss lots.

@Robocrop_Duster I’m just saying that companies most often have a plan for when information is going to be released and how. Just because that doesn’t line up with when you want information does not mean it’s being mismanaged. Not by a long shot.
If anything is should have been the xbox that was delayed - it had literally no launch games! Which by the way would be far more in line with mismanagement than Sony. But I digress.

They likely didn’t think people would want to store their games on a drive that can’t play them. Honestly can’t say I have or want to personally. I’m sure they had data that reflected as much through their market research.

As for number 7 don’t kid yourself, it was a small subset of gamers that were very vocal. Most people simply wouldn’t know or care apart from the hardcore gamers.

As for price point they are not the only ones doing so or have you forgotten that?

Bend studio were the ones that shot it down, not Sony. Didn’t you know that?

Let’s answer your examples then shall we.

1- yes, only a few games have been super successful (publicly so, and radically successful) others may not seem successful but you may not have all the relevant information to make that call. Sony would for any game on their platform as they get a cut from all purchases made on the platform.

2- could this have been handled better for the devs who had made recent purchases? Perhaps, but we don’t know when this was finalized, the dev support people may not have known about the closure plans until last minute

3- sony is a company that is currently focussing on supplementing their existing strengths with purchases aimed at strengthening their long term prospects and survival. They don’t need to answer the “coming of xbox wave of titles” remember xbox is massively playing catch-up in this regard.

4- just because you think this is anti-consumer doesn’t mean it is; classic nintendo games aren’t playable on the super nintendo for example. Sony is offering a service allowing you to play those games if you wish. If you don’t like the value don’t subscribe. You’re just feeling entitled, a sign you’re probably quite young. Companies owe you NOTHING.

5- so you want them to give their plans further in advance? In business you don’t want to give information until it is finalized, this allows you flexibility should you need it . Really just your opinion and not mismanagement at all in any case.

6-the game system was released in a finished state. Again, you’re feeling entitled to saying the system should release with everything YOU want. I.E.: “I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW - cue tantrum cry”.

7- it’s their platform and they’re allowed to set the standards at what they want. Don’t like it play elsewhere. Again, not a mismanagement indication when their business earns far more than their competitors.

8- they are allowed to set the cost of their games. See the end to number 7 if you don’t like it

9- their studios can work on projects they wanted. Got a source saying otherwise? Look at the recent bungie purchase as proof bud 😂

10- their attempt to close ps3/vita stores are a case of cost management (it’s their fiduciary duty - look it up if you’re not familiar with this legal term - to make sure that if costs - servers etc - exceeds the income from a service you act to rectify that).

@mucc i’ve noticed much of what he says are facts are either opinion or just off the mark.

A lot of people have forgotten what Sony have said in regards to acquisitions; they go for supplementary purchases - ones that fill a gap in their service goals. Square’s core business would fit in quite nicely while the portions already sold added little value to Sony or their roadmap.

That’s my take anyways.
