Re: Huge PS Store Summer Sale Refreshed with Hundreds More PS5, PS4 Discounts

Jeaz

Oddly as it sounds, this new PS Plus Premium setup has kinda ruined sales for me
I see a game on sale but also go, it should end up at PS Plus Premium within a year I reckon, and it's not like my backlog is empty at the moment.
FFXVI and GoW:Ragnarok will be day one buys from me, but beyond that there's little coming within the next year that I feel I must get.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part 1 Really a 'Cash Grab'?

Jeaz

They are clearly doing it for financial reasons. But there’s gone a lot of work into it. GTA Trilogy was cash grab. Many remasters are. But doesn’t feel like one.

Still, I think it’s too pricey to get at launch. I’ll wait. But for those who haven’t played it at all, are all in for a treat.

Re: PS Plus Collection's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Won't Upgrade to PS5 for Free

Jeaz

@SolaceCreed I've never had any problems with them charging for the upgrade. And even if they were compensated by Sony for including the game in the Collection, it's undoubtedly more profitable for them to sell a copy, and it's fine if they chose to offer those customers more value.

Look, the axe I had to grind was rather calling it a free game to start with. But you aren't alone in calling the PS Plus games free, In fact, I find most game news sites (this one included) make the same mistake and call it things like "the free games this month". I'm sorry if I was unclear or anything, was just trying to get facts right.

Re: PS Plus Collection's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Won't Upgrade to PS5 for Free

Jeaz

@SolaceCreed Goodwill? It’s marketing. Sony is paying the publisher and developer to include the game in the collection to make buying the PS5 more lucrative, especially for newcomers to the PlayStation. Obviously they aren’t paying full price for each copy or anything like that, but there are some form of compensation.

There’s a reason that Sony never uses the word free in their PS Plus marketing, as it would false marketing. They use words like “included”, add to your collection and so on.

Re: Reaction: PS Plus’ Revamp Is Hours Away, But Sony Still Has a Game Pass Problem

Jeaz

The problem for Sony is that Microsoft has the deep pockets to let Game Pass be a cash drain. It's not profitable at all for them at current levels (they admit as much themselves), but that's fine. They are playing the long game and this is the only way they can challenge Sony at the moment.

I personally think Sony's counter is good. You get lots of value with it, while it being cheaper than XGP. The main concern I do have, is the lack of a proper xCloud alternative. With XGP you can play the games in Windows, Mac and mobile, besides the console. With PS Plus it's a mixed bag. Some games are on the old PS Now, but PS Now doesn't work Macs or mobile. The only way to achieve that is to use Remote Play, while overall working fine a broader PS Now alternative would be nice.

Re: Sony Reveals Vision for the Metaverse

Jeaz

PS Home was ahead of its time in my opinion. They could have built that further to have player homes with trophy cabinet, game demos and trailers, social hubs like integration with Discord and so on.

Re: No Platinum Trophy for Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok

Jeaz

I love how binary some are. Just because it’s a DLC, it’s overpriced at €40? I’m not saying it isn’t but until we’ve actually seen it, it’s impossible to answer how much value it actually adds.
I mean, Fate of Atlantis for Odyssey added three completely new zones and 15-20 hours of gameplay and it was €25.
So just saying, if it’s 30-40 hours of content, then €40 isn’t that much compared to many other games.

Re: Soapbox: PS5's Next-Gen PSVR Headset Is Going to Drop Jaws in 2022

Jeaz

I bought the PSVR on launch day but sold it when I bought my PS5. I think there’s a tonne of potential in VR but the first gen PSVR just was a bit too early, tech wasn’t good enough. Pixilated graphics and unreliable head tracking made the experience not good enough.
But I have high hopes for PSVR2 though.

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Jeaz

There’s just not a chance that GamePass is profitable at current pricing. If Xbox has been a standalone company they wouldn’t have been able survive like this.

You have to remember that no publisher would add their games to GamePass if it didn’t promise more revenue than selling them the normal way.

But this all breaks badly with the promise of AAA 1st party games on day one. It’s been years in development and it’s supposed to earn the same by sharing a small piece of that $15 fee per month?

The goal today is all about getting sub numbers high enough and then start increasing prices over time, lex Netflix. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’ll cost twice what it costs today in a couple of years.

Re: PS4 Games That Need a PS5 Patch

Jeaz

Asssassin's Creed Syndicate needs a patch more than Origins, as is one of the gamest that has big compatibility issues on the PS5, with lighting issues all over the place.

Re: Rumour: PS Now Adds The Last of Us 2, Fallout 76, and Final Fantasy VIII

Jeaz

Still puzzles me that PS Now is still not available on mobile or macOS, both would seem like sensible additions and platforms that competing services are on. Makes it still feel like Sony aren't wholeheartedly invested in this.

That said, for all the hoopla that XGP gets, I think there's a better catalogue of games on PS Now these days. Just not as vast.

Re: Feature: 12 PS5 Firmware Updates We Want to See

Jeaz

@wiiware well that’s the beauty of individualism. I personally never ever used folders on my PS4, and of all the things on this list probably what I want the least. Not do I really want VRR that much either, despite a fancy TV. But I’d love the Discord integration making keeping in touch with gaming friends so much easier.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Showcase 2021 Was Good, But Not Good Enough

Jeaz

I thought it was great. Yeah, the first half was a bit slow and GTA V certainly got too much time, but after that it certainly picked up.
I had hoped for some more info on FFXVI and maybe at least a release year, but alas not this time.
I’m also happy they spent their time away from Horizon, Kena and the other titles coming soon, as we’ve seen quite a lot of them already.

Re: Rumour: Sony Planning More Expensive PS Plus Option That Could Include Crunchyroll

Jeaz

Here’s my suggestion: Bundle PS Plus and PS Now into one joint service. Call it PS Multiply or whatever.
Make the new service available on more platforms, like mobile.
Also make any game you’ve bought on PS Store, accessible from the service, not just the games on PS Now (sort of like a hosted version of Remote Play).

While I do watch Crunchyroll, I don’t think you should mix media with a gaming service like PS Plus.

Re: PS4 Exclusives Prove Popular for PC Players on PS Now

Jeaz

I just find it so strange they still don’t have macOS client for PS Now. Should be a big market with MacBook owners considering they aren’t always that powerful and not a lot of games for macOS. Soon even xCloud will support macOS through the browser.

The strangest part is maybe that GaiKai that they bought to build PS Now were primarily focused on the Mac market, so the tech has always been there.
