Resident Evil 7 Biohazard PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard’s free PS4 to PS5 upgrade is not available with the PS Plus Collection. We actually spotted this last night when we went to redeem, but the story has since been doing the rounds on sites like IGN. This isn’t the first time we’ve experienced a situation like this: initially, the PS Plus version of Final Fantasy VII Remake wouldn’t upgrade from PS4 to PS5 – until Square Enix later had a change of heart.

To be honest, it’s unclear where to pinpoint blame here. There are examples of PS Plus freebies upgrading, so this is potentially on Capcom. However, the Japanese publisher could perhaps argue that it was only paid by Sony to include the PS4 version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in the PS Plus Collection, and seeing as it’s invested additional effort into the port – well, it’s understandable that it wants to get paid.

Personally, we’d like to see the platform holder enforce some more consistent guidelines in this area moving forwards, because it does get a bit messy when some games upgrade and others don’t. From the consumer’s perspective, if they “own” Resident Evil 7: Biohazard through the PS Plus Collection, then there’s no real reason why it shouldn’t upgrade like any other copy.
