Insomniac coming out with 3 great games this generation, 2 from Housemarque. As much as I love the visual fidelity of Naughty Dog games, it is not worth 1 game every generation.
Is it just because I pay more attention now, or does it seem like so many developers do not know how to make games? Or maybe Publisher expectations are too high. Every week its game cancellation after game cancellation because of it not being up to standards.
I am totally ok with Live Service/Online Focused games published by Sony, like Helldivers, being ported to XBox, but I don't care for Sony first party games being ported. It dilutes the brand while gaining very little. XBoxs player base isn't huge and those that would play a Sony game is even smaller, the gain is not worth the loss.
@Oram77 Same, why would they even make a point to bring up Leon out of nowhere? They are on some trolling thing with this game. I am trying not to get my hopes up. Will enjoy the game either way.
Besides RE9 and some interesting small games I might buy on a sale there wasn't anything to get excited for. It was probably the worst showcase I have seen in a long time.
@rjejr My understanding is there is one big, 3 hour show where you can expect the major announcements on June 6th at 5 PM EST. Everything else after is extra stuff like developer interviews and deep dives. So Schedule for that Friday and you'll catch all the good stuff.
So, they just drop the Ghost of Yotei release date, a major Playstation first party title, with no fan fair but commit 20 minutes just to Borderlands? I could not care less about this game personally.
@GADG3Tx87 Same, I was so excited I didn't even realize I was purchasing the Deluxe Edition haha. Oh well, I guess I finally get to experience the mythical horse armor.
I was so excited to get this downloading, I didn't even switch the purchase from the Deluxe to the Standard Version. Oh well, can't wait to get home and play it!
@Jimmer-jammer I really think it will come out late 2025, and I really feel like we will finally have that big Showcase early next year to announce release dates for Ghost of Yotei, Intergalactic and Wolverine with some other announcements sprinkled in. Just a guess but its nice not to be in the dark like we were all last year.
@Paulbuck28 But I thought no one liked Naughty Dog and they are the worst developer of all time? Lol. Definitely got hyped of this over everything else.
I feel bad for the developers, Sony should have stopped it or pivoted to something different long before it came to market. People vote with their wallets, and hopefully this shows people do not want these live service, made by committee games with dialogue that sound like every conversation is being had in front of HR.
Wait, is that thumbnail photo really from Veilguard? It looks like an early PS4 game. I am not expecting Naughty Dog or even CD Projekt Red levels of graphics but geez, they are not a small company, I expect way more.
If this is true, then not only is leadership to blame, but so are the developers. It is unfathomable the level of waste that was going on at every level of Firewalk. 8 years and $400 Million with a broken product as of 18 months ago shows that. Obviously no one deserves any hate, but it should be learned from. Sony and Hermen need to do better.
I could care less when there are not any new significant first party exclusives in sight. AstroBot is great and I will play the crap out of it, but why can't they just announce what they have coming to build excitement.
I avoided Death Stranding for years until this January when I had nothing to play and decided to give it a go. I binged in a week and absolutely loved it. I am pumped for #2!
@GADG3Tx87 I wouldn't be surprised if Disney looked at the player numbers for each console, and heavily encouraged Xbox to make it playable on PS5 again.
@GADG3Tx87 It was revealed in the FTC documents that the game was originally multiplatform but Xbox actually renegotiated its contract with Disney to make this game exclusive to Xbox after it purchased Bethesda. Somewhere along the way they changed it again, but it was Xbox that first decided to make it exclusive so it says a lot that they have back tracked.
@Americansamurai1 Ugh stop raising my hopes and dreams. I have been defeated enough this generation. I am just going to live my life believing there will never be another Good Showcase and no more big First Party Exclusives this generation so I that will not be disappointed anymore.
@LifeGirl I thought the same thing too but then I saw that the article is from 2017. Just goes to show there hasn't been much news on the Konami/Kojima situation for some time! It is just nice to hear there isnt that bad beef anymore.
This is absolutely a game that I will need to play a demo of before I make a purchase anytime soon after release. Looks great, but I have heard enough lukewarm reactions from media outlets to not sell me on it yet.
@Toot1st All of them!! I am a gamer, I am never happy, there is never enough and everything is bad. I'm kidding, there are plenty of games coming and maybe I am finally getting old but none of them have that excitement that I am looking for.
@Fiendish-Beaver That is certainly true, there just isn't a lot of announced games that have me very excited. I am not saying there isn't anything. I think like most people I am waiting for the big slate of games for the final years of this Gen.
So what is the point? I just want some dope new announcements and short gameplay trailers. That is usually enough for me to know if I will buy a game or not. I don't need a whole showcase for updates on existing games! I use to hear people say this has been the worse generation for gaming and would think they are being ridiculous, but damn, I agree. At least the worst since the PS1 gen.
@AdamNovice True, and it is exactly what I expected but I am still disappointed. At least before I could live with the vague naivety that there might be something exciting show. Now I just have to wait 4 months and hope that they will do a proper showcase in September. That has been the theme of this generation, waiting for the big thing to finally happen.
Although my expectations were very low and Astro Bot does look like a lot of fun, I thought the showcase was terrible. There wasn't anything that was worth having a State of Play for. They clearly just needed to do something for the announcement season, but were not willing to announce any of the heavy hitters so they put this out.
Remember, Sony has said there will be no major exclusives from there first party studios until April of next year so we will see nothing big. Some third party stuff and maybe an Astrobot, which is fine. Its not what the majority bought a PlayStation for however. Pretty disappointed. Sony needs to start showing something otherwise this really is the worst generation since Play Station has been around.
I would rather there be no Showcase then a Showcase that Only Shows Concord, Fairgames, Silent Hill 2 and some third party games. I am curious about SH2 and am always happy with a good third party game, but we need the big, non live service, First Party Exclusives. At this point, anything else would be a disappointment.
I have said it before, even if the next Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch or Santa Monica game is a year or two out, at least give brief teaser to build some hype and let people know what is coming. With the layoffs, live service push and lack of any real first party games planned, they need to correct the messaging. Right now, I don't know if ill be playing any first party games until the last year of the PS5 and maybe that is the case. Which sucks.
@Americansamurai1 I agree 100%, they need to at least announce what the first party studios are working on even if they are a year or two from being released. If they don't show anything, Sony cant expect people to wait another year for the next big Showcase without losing all the faith. I am worried that all we get is updates on Concord or whatever the B.S. live service games are and Silent Hill 2. That's no going to cut it anymore.
@colonelkilgore Haha same, I loved Fallot 3 and New Vegas when I was younger but could not get into Fallout 4 and have been very turned off from most Bethesda games, but I am going to actually finally play through it because the show has got me in a Fallout mood.
@Specky Haha this is the worst take I have heard in a long time. All a review can do is point out its strengths and weaknesses and compare it to other games. You cant get a feel for the game if you don't get a demo. There are plenty of games I have purchased that I otherwise wouldn't because of a demo. I probably would have bought Dragons Dogma 2 if it had a demo but I am so unsure of the combat feel that I didn't want to put $70 bucks down.
I love the PS Stars, I legit do nothing differently and just slowly accrue points. It takes a long time but I was able to get Cuphead for free and a couple $20 gift cards for my account. Since I'm already just playing new games and PS Plus titles it is a nice bonus.
@Pranwell I would probably not recommend that. Not just because the wait is so far away, but because they are long games and I would get bored if I played all three back to back. I love the games and the filler does not bother me one bit, but if I was playing them all at once it would get to me. Play Remake and Rebirth and that should be enough to tie you over. Then the final game, "reunion, Return, Rectal or whatever they call it, will feel like this big event that you have been waiting for. Same thing happened with God of War 2018 and Ragnarok, I love the games and gameplay but I knew I'd get bored if I replayed GOW right before I started Ragnarok.
I did not spend $500 on a next gen console to be stuck with 30 fps. For every game that I have played, the graphics mode is so unnoticeable in motion that it isn't worth the drop in frames for image clarity, while the performance mode is extremely noticeable to me. I am not saying every game has to have 60 fps, but I wont be ok with having to accept 30fps as the norm again.
Wait, the next season isn't for almost another year?!?! Do they really think that is enough to keep a live service, alive? Even if this was the best live service game ever and the game was universally praised, not releasing season 2 until 2025 would still kill it.
Nice! I will have to reload my save from just before the point of no return, but damn that means I need to go fight all those Tonberry's as part of that quest too. ugh.
Even if they are a year or more away, Sony needs to announce what there big first party studios are working on, Sony Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, Bend, Bluepoint. They need to start building hype and it would give us an idea of what they are working on. Right now it just looks like they don't have anything coming because of their silence.
I have never thought much of all the twists and reveal in FFVII as it was such an old game, but I keep getting so excited thinking of all the people who will be playing it for the first time that may not know how the story plays out. I can not wait to get off work to start playing!
@themightyant It seems like it is the same vocal minority that hate TLOU 2 and will defend that position to the end. Clearly there is a lot of love for TLOU 2, otherwise it would not sell so well. I love Druckmann, and it is totally far to not like TLOU 2 but it isn't fair to call it a bad game or call Druckmann a bad game designer.
Sony really needs to right this ship. All they need to do to right the public image, (although layoffs can not be righted especially to all those people now unemployed and unable to feed their families) is announce a PlayStation showcase, announce any upcoming First party game in the works and announce the PS5 Pro. Just because they wont be releasing anything major this year does not mean they can not announce it and start to build hype. I don't care if it is two years out, at least give people an idea of what to expect.
I haven't seen a lot of people talk about the fact that Square is giving a game and DLC for free with Rebirth. I was always going to preorder Rebirth, so of course I am going to get the twin pack. I only had Remake on PS4 and haven't played intergrade so it was a free perk.
