Another State of Play has come to an end, and it's easy to argue that Sony needed to win back some good faith with this latest showing. Following on from the eye-watering PS5 Pro price reveal, the Japanese giant has to start justifying the expense of its mid-gen upgrade — but did this September 2024 broadcast do the trick?
To quickly recap, we got a peek at Astro Bot's DLC, Palworld's inevitable PlayStation version, the surprise Lunar Remastered Collection, release dates for Fantasian Neo Dimension, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Monster Hunter Wilds, and LEGO Horizon Adventures, plus a bunch Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay.
Oh, and the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is real... and so is Ghost of Yotei!
So, what did you make of this State of Play? Has it been yet another stumble from Sony, or does it have you excited for the relatively near future of PlayStation? Vote in our poll, and then share your honest opinion in the comments section below.
How would you rate Sony's State of Play for September 2024? (4,223 votes)

I wasn't expecting that tbh. Very good show
PHENOMENAL FOR GHOST OF YOTEI ALONE
SONY ARE BACK
Like a solid 5. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Ghost of Yotei, pleasantly surprised, very happy.
I want to rate it very poor because it was, but then they had to come in with that banger at the end and totally redeem themselves. Sort of.
Ghost of Yotei saved it from being very poor, ended up being okay just for that reveal imo.
I expected worse and as usual the third parties carried the presentation. Ghost sequel is a nice surprise though. Cought me off guard.
Slightly above mid.
Very good.
Lots of interesting stuff.
Some good ps1 games coming.
Even VR had some good stuff.
Everyone will bleat on about horizon, but it has the £10 upgrade and we know it would have been to go alongside tv show. Surprised no reveal for days gone.
Lunar saved it for me. SO stoked we're getting those games on modern platforms!
I mean Ghost of Yotei alone make this an A show for me. Add in Lunar, Soul Reaver, Hell is Us and some of the other titles shown and this was an excellent show. Fair play to Sony. The 10 pound upgrade path for Horizon is sensible too
I really liked that. Low expectations but it had a nice selection of games and a new Ghost reveal. I'm happy!
Talk about going from 1 to 100 after seeing Ghost of Yotei.
Good. Nothing earth shattering but still good all round really. Though I still feel like so many games look too similar these days.
A lot better than I expected. Also a playstation studio game, so something to look forward to.
Ghost of Yotei,Lunar Collection,Stellar Blade x Nier Automata was the best things of the show for me.
Ghost of Yotei saved the entire show for me! Literally was tuning out for the rest of it till the end. Way to end it on a high note, Sony.
The stream gets Excellent out of me today out just LUNAR.. ALONE HOLY FCK
I did not expect that
Hahahaha just realised still no Days Gone that's hilarious
Excellent State of Play and probably their best yet. So many games shown I'm interested in but that Lunar Remaster, Ghost of Yotei and Monster Hunter Wilds made it easily a 9/10.
Was okay, nothing mind blowing. Helped me to realise I won't be needing a PS5 pro until GTA 6. Ghost of Yotei looks okay but need to see more of it.
We're back baby!!
Good show. Ghost of Yotei was amazing! That Nier track was so nostalgic and beautiful. MHW looks amazing. DINO CRISIS! Finally! But I was hoping to see Bluepoint's new IP but it's still missing. No Wolverine or Naughty Dog's new IP either. Maybe a little heavy on remakes and remasters. Great show.
Wish I went to bed early
Pretty good overall!
Pleasant surprise, much better than expected!
And damn....
GHOST!
Was fun hanging out with you guys in the chat as well
I think it was pretty great, all things considered. It had a mix of games for all sorts of people. The new Ghost of Yotei looks incredible, and I’m excited for the Stellar Blade x Nier DLC.
@Ralizah can we just like SCREAM TOGETHER IN THE FACT ITS EVEN REEEEEAL
Ghost of Yotei, the best PS Plus month in YEARS, Hitman psvr2, NieR AutomataXstellar Balde… a State of Play that was actually well worth watching!
Terrible, as per usual
Even without Ghost of Yotei (which I'm stunned had zero leaks) I would rate this one highly. Tons of stuff to look forward to 😁
That one by the Lost in Random devs looked sublime 😌
Totally and utter rubbish.
Apart from the saving grace that is Ghost of Yotei.
That’s what we want more of Sony.
The rest boring remasters and games on Xbox as well.
Lunar Remastered easily stole the show. I may have jumped up out of my seat. 😅
I really like the phasing on this one. There are some few games that I was interested in that was announced but in general, the way how this show was presented was actually pretty good. Also a good way to end the show by revealing something new, being Ghost of Yotei. I'd say today's SoP did not disappoint
Getting PalWorld is excellent!
Oh ye have little faith.
Very big on the JRPG fix for me. Glad to finally see something from a big 1st party and cant wait for Ghost.
Also atleast the Horizon remaster is a $10 upgrade and not full price
Very good i thought. Obviously the big mic drop at the end was the clear highlight but Palworld being shadow dropped was nice, the Horizon remaster being a $10 is something i'm ok with and freaking Dino Crisis 😁😁😁 Monster Hunter looks fantastic as well and the dream collab with SB is finally happening 😍😍😍 Yeah i'm happy with the show.
Superior. Plenty of stuff for my overflowing wishlist.
Ghost of Yotei made it worth it. Happy that we're getting the Stellar Blade x Nier Automata crossover and it's cool that we're getting the some more bots in Astro Bot and the Soul Reaver leak being real.
I feel like the PS5 Pro should be $649 now since Sony should give us a $50 dollar credit for watching that State of Play. I kid i kid. I don’t care for horror games nor Ghost so it did nothing for me. But i knew there wouldn’t be much for me in there. However i am glad to know Metal Gear is Pro enhanced. I do want to play that. I am sure that will look killer on the Pro.
Imho it's a pretty good SOP although i'm a bit dissapointed there's no Death Stranding 2 trailer, which i guess they save it for TGS.
Edit:
Forgot to add: Astro Bot DLC & Stellar Blade x Nier Automata DLC looks nice, Lego Horizon looks fun, and Fantasian looks great. I think Hell is Us also looks interesting.
@danzoEX YAAAAAAAAAAAS
Was freaking out in chat when I saw it. Still have my copies on PS1. Eternal Blue is a GOAT RPG
They didn’t announce the ps7 and games that won’t be released for another 5 years 1/10
Probably 10 games I’m interested in and everything is releasing in the next six months outside of ghost so 9/10
Disappointing for me, a 5/10.
Ghost of Yotei, Blood Omen, and Dino Crisis alone made it very good for me. And the Horizon remaster being a $10 upgrade for existing owners was smart. I may get it now
Tbh, I'm easy to please. You had me at stellar blade x nier.
@Darylb88 You won’t really need to see much more of the Ghost sequel, it’ll be more of the same and that’s ok.
It was exactly what I expected, a bad state of play with a teaser for GoT2 tacked on. Monster Hunter looks great and I'll probably play Horizon Remastered. That said, I don't see a reason to upgrade to Pro.
Several things on my list now. So I'll say it's good. MH Wilds is coming sooner than I expected and finally got a date for LEGO Horizon.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner
VR had a PSVR1 port and a trailer for a game already announced months ago
It's interesting how Ghost Of Tsushima 2 doesn't seem to look that better than the first game. It still looks great though.
Better than their PS5 pro roll out. I'm hoping more things are announced at the TGS.
Very happy about Lunar
Glad Last of Us Part 1 will be included in my plan (didn't buy it)
STOKED about the new Ghost of Yotei game
Hell is Us looks interesting. Don't care for the Horizon announcements...the remake seems unnecessary but thankfully that wasn't their main event announcement
I guess it's just me but GoY looks nothing new. Can't tell it's a sequel at all other than the main character. Mediocre show as always. Keep it up Sony.
First off, Ghost of Yotai looks amazing.
I think Dragon Age Veilguard and Monster Hunter Wilds got two really good trailers.
Lego Horizon looks hilarious. I might upgrade to the PS5 version of Zero Dawn to plat it again if I find myself in a drought. Maybe.
Looking forward to Lake House DLC for Alan Wake.
Finally, I get photo mode in Stellar Blade. And that NieR Automata collab got me very excited.
Not great but Ghost of Yotei absolutely stole the show imo. It looks really good and it appears to be some sort of sequel to Tsushima. Hope the protagonist is just as good as Jin Sakai from the first game. Stellar Blade x NieR:Automata is cool too but mainly the final trailer being GoY was amazing. Did not care one bit for the Horizon remaster as I didn't really enjoy that game.
Few hours ago everyone was so negative about the speculations and look at all these poll scores and comments lol, hypocrites....
I thought it was good without much for me….and then the very last announcement made it GREAT!
Good few I am interested in there, the Ghost reveal was a welcome surprise.
Not the same without my boy Jin, but maybe I'll ...."warm up" to her xD
@MidnightDragonDX The Wilds release date had me cheering loudly. Best news of the show, albeit not Sony news.
Ghost of Yotei, and...that's it, for me.
They wasted so much time on that crappy Dragon Age game.
Not bad at all.
New Ghost of Shichimi.
TLOU part 1 coming free for ps plus.
Lunar was probably the biggest sad feelings game I played as a kid besides ff7.
Monster Hunter will be excellent and a huge time sink.
Horizon remastered for 9.99 is not bad if you have an original copy.
There is literally no pleasing some of you people...
I'm genuinely beginning to think people don't actually play games and just ***** on everything they see.
I thought it was pretty good. The ghost reveal obviously but some of that other stuff caught my eye. Loved the art style of that first indie game they showed!
Omg the lunar remasters alone made my day man holy. But astro bot dlc and stellar blade x nier, I'm so excited for too. And I'll be able to play my ps3 copy of Dino crisis on ps5 now. MH Wilds looking even more stunning. A lot better than I had anticipated
What were the ps plus games again?
It was a good showcase.that ghost of yotei was definitely a big surprise.i enjoy that dragon age the veilguard gameplay also.monster Hunter wilds looks good also.and other stuff.word up son
Wonder how long before the usual crowd kick off that Ghost 2 has a female lead.
I am down with Lunar and Dino Crisis
Some nice pieces in there, including some announcements (like release dates for both Horizon games mentioned).
The Ghost of Yotai surprise at the end was awesome. Loved the first game.
I don't even own Stellar Blade yet (still waiting for a decent sale), but already excited about the Nier crossover. I've got to pick up Stellar Blade.
Better than I expected, if not as good as I'd hoped for.
I’m seeing a lot of philistines here simping for Ghost of Yotei when the Keanu Reeves Sonic DLC is right there.
Jokes aside, I audibly breathed a sigh of relief when I realised the Horizon remaster wasn’t their headline reveal.
@VaultGuy415 28th of Feb is my birthday, one hell of a present from Capcom to me.
Ghost saved it if I'm honest but it's obvious and I hate to admit this I get why Sony is doing this. Gta6 is going to destroy any competition especially any hype as the marketing train ramps up for it. It will steal any thunder. Any buzz. That game is going to sell tens of millions of copies in its launch week let alone it's first year. Sony is better off waiting for gta6 to pass which they will sell a ton of ps5 and pro for alone.
lunar collection soul reaver ghost 2 i give is a 7..
MHW too... ❤️
Oh and the fact that Horizon is a tenner upgrade for a visual overhaul and other improvements is great!
I can’t imagine what more one would want from a State of Play. I voted Very Good.
@DennisReynolds I didn’t even notice. It’s possible that I’m just an idiot.
The show was saved right at the end with Ghost of Yotei. That was the only game that I saw that will be a pre-order for me. I did appreciate the £9.99 upgrade for Horizon though. At least Sony don't appear to be trying to rip us off there!
On the other hand (forgive the pun) why does the Metro VR game not have arms attached to the hands? It's so distracting, and off-putting, to see two detached hands floating around. I just don't understand why developers do this. It's totally immersion breaking, and is one of the reasons I cannot play games like it...
Went in with low expectations and it considerably exceeded them. While there weren’t too many jaw dropping announces there were over 10 announcements I was interested in. That is enough.
I thought it was pretty bad. Obviously, Ghost is a win but it was obviously happening, and the rest of it should have been an email.
for a state of play this was very enjoyable compared to previous state of play..
@TripleKing333 it's obvious some of them are just here to troll every time, no matter what Sony show it will end up being rubbish to them.
Ghost of Yotei and the Soul Reaver Remastered are a must to me!! And great that they are bringing Blood Omen too through Ps Classics!! Never played, so I will start there!!
It was a very good show.
I liked it !
Glad to see Sony back in the game.
@rick1987
Not confirmed but I bet Sony have already got the marketing rights, bundle deals already to go for GTA6.
I'm rating for what it was.
Terrible.
Horizon remake. Just go away and leave it alone 1 gen jump ain't worth my time.
And the remasters come on, we live in an age where resident evil games and dead space are being remade from the ground up not just lick of paint. Even mgs snake eater is having a proper 4k texture and animations overhaul.
.time to stop doing the bare minimal and bring out proper remakes.. but I know I'm in the minority.
Ghost may of been the saviour for it. For myself but even that I didn't get the same feeling I got when I saw ghost for the first time.
Maybe it's because it isn't Jin carrying on. But I'm glad we finally got a first party game reveal from the big hitters. So I'm excited to see more of it.
Overall non of it a cared about really but that may just be the games I'm not interested in.
Glad people got what they wanted out of it.
@nessisonett Yeah she was clearly female. No issues from me as i prefer female lead games.
That's probably the best State of Play in recent memory. Well paced, decent announcements and the Ghost reveal to cap it off. Only low point was Cerny popping in. If I could downvote one portion, that was it. Also, props for the 10$ upgrade ladder for HZD. I love the game but it had some of the worst Uncanny Valley in the speaking segments.
Edit: I am very pleased with the Dino Crisis 1 coming in. Just keep pulling up these old classics I already own and I'll keep on downloading the freebies.
Much better than expected. 6 out of 10. Super pumped for Ghost.
Very happy with that. Better than I expected.
I can't complain.
Only Sony: Hey, here's the biggest flop in modern gaming history.
Nope, never mind. Forget that. Here's Astrobot, PS5 Pro and a new Ghost game instead.
See ya ✌️
@johncalmc This is what baffles me. Games get sequels if they do well generally. Something like Metroid Prime 4 is a cool announcement because it’s not a straight up sequel a couple years down the line so it’s like wow I didn’t see that coming. Ghost getting a sequel is inevitable more than anything. Seeing people surprised about this announcement is bizarre.
Are you kidding me? Stellar Blade x Nier! Lunar! Astrobot! Ghost of Yotei! Fantasian!
And sorry folks but that Horizon remake-up looks bonkers
Also: did they tease a FFVII Rebirth dlc starring Vincent?
Very good show! P.s. The Eve bot drinking her can collection was insanely adorable
JUST SAW THE TRAILERS POP UP ON YOUTUBE OOOOOH MY GOD SOUL REAVER REMASTERED AND GHOST OF YOTEI!!!! My god Ghost looks sensational I actually like that they're going the anthology route making each game it's own story I love the new Protagonist she's stunning and she looks so badass🐍🐍 ^__^
It was ok. GoY was a nice surprise at the end.
There seems to be a lot of medieval/fantasy games with cute creatures, where you fight giant monsters. They all look the same to me.
Well I ended up watching it and I'm glad I did. There was a couple of games there that interested me and a couple I'm excited for.
The only highlight was Ghost of Yotei. Everything else was meh.
DYNASTY WARRIORS ORIGINS WOOO
@nessisonett a certain @colonelkilgore ‘s heart will be broken hahaha
A new Ghost entry alone was epic it looks even better then first game and that looked fantastic already. 😁👍💯
Standouts for me:
Lunar Collection Remastered was out of nowhere and very welcome (since I don't own either one).
Hell is Us looked kind of cool
Ghost of Yotei looks amazing - so glad it isn't a "Ghost of Tsushima 2" and it looks to be telling another story. I felt like Tsushima ended perfectly and would have been annoyed if Sucker Punch did more there.
Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered looked better than I thought it would! Only reason I would pick them up is because I don't own either game at the moment.
For me:
1. Astrobot DLC
2. Soul reaver remaster
3. Ghost of hotsprings 🤭
I think the fact it was announced at short notice in the first place told me not to expect megaton after megaton.
So with that going into it I was quite pleased. And albeit just a trailer great to see initial glimpse at a first party game for next year. I am sure there will be a few more to follow over the coming months.
It was interesting that they didn't push any of the live service games. At least this shows they are aware of the stink surrounding them.
Hitman VR looks fun, but not much there for me really. I'm burnt out on open world stuff like monster hunter and ghost of Tsushima though, so it would have taken something really special to get me going. I found GoT really repetitive, but I'm glad for people that are excited for it and MHW will be ready for me to dive into when I'm ready for another epic time sink.
In fairness, @UltimateOtaku91, people have different tastes. So just because you really liked something, doesn't mean that everyone will. Some will have come away pretty excited (I did for Ghost, for example), but others will have come away disappointed having found nothing of interest to them. If they then express that as an opinion here, that does not make them trolls as their opinion is worth nothing more or less than our own...
@johncalmc that’s fair, wasn’t anything special besides one game for me (no one will guess which one /s)
Pretty decent little update to tide me over until The Game Awards! Ghost looks great, Hell is Us looks intriguing, Lunar Collection is super nostalgic for me, and there are some neat looking DLC and updates too!
That State of Play was amazing. I'd literally play every game in the show if time allows(would even give some of the older games a chance down the line). Soul Reaver looked cool, although I think it should have been a remake.
Astro was pleasant to see. Stellar Blade getting anything new is great. Hell is Us was badass. The game from the creators of Lost in Random looked crazy.
The Ps Plus games were good too. 3 games I don't own but have wanted to play. Also adding the Last of Us to extra and Dino Crisis to the service is awesome.
Dynasty Warriors Origins looks great. The voice acting is still kind of bad it seems like in DW9 but I hope it gets better as you play lol.
The Horizon upgrade for $10 is awesome, and Lego Horizon looks fun.
Ghost of Yotei looked perfect and I can't wait to see what the Sucker Punch has done with the sequel to Ghost. The story looks like it's going to be crazy, plus you get a Wolf companion which is great.
I'd say 10/10. That probably the best State of Play they had in a while.
Also Dragon Age looked great(Day One for me) and Monster Hunter Wilds looked amazing as it has since it debuted. The VR games looked good too if your into VR. Metro looked awesome as Metro usually does.
@nessisonett @DennisReynolds in regards to the female protag thing, I kinda didn’t notice either (and don’t mind either) (early happy bday btw)
I liked the Dragon Age gameplay. Ghost looks amazing as does Monster Hunters. I like the look of some of the older games getting a new release.
I also liked a few of the controllers but at this rate I feel I will have more controllers than games if I buy anymore.
The Alan Wake 2 DLC comes at a good time for me as I am going to get the game in October as I never played it before.
Dead Space for PSN is also good - I did buy it recently but I'm not complaining.
The Last of Us 1 Remastered for FREE is also welcome.
Overall a good show.
Astrobot DLC is also FREE which is a bonus.
Ghost of Yotei and MH Wilds for me👌👌, and I need to get myself a ps5 already😅😅
@MrMeeeseeeks that was my thought all the way through.
Every pme of those games looked like it could of been part of the same game.
It was meh with a few exceptions.
Others may like it but I'm so over remasters these days.
When you have resident evil, dead space, final fantasy, metal gear solid, Demon Souls.
All rebooting/remaking the old games, I just think why even bother just remastering games. Yes Legacy Of Kain were great for it's time.
But I don't want a 4k paint job, I want a totally revamped remade version in the same way all the games I mentioned have been.
Hell is Us, Archeage Chronicles, and a GoT sequel?? That was solid af for my interests.
I guess this will probably be Sony's approach from now on... When one of their studios wants to announce something, it will be in a State Of Play.
They might return with showcases when they start to promote the PS6 in four or five years.
All I've wanted from PlayStation for the last 15 years is a massive epic open world RPG. But it seems like that will never happen, they prefer watered down cinematic focused "games" made for children. I get it, their audience is primarily 12 year olds and the industry as a whole is shifting towards live service and hyper generic action games but I was just hoping for at least one game from PS this gen that wasn't the same old thing.
@QBGaming12 so true, really loving DWO. Don’t mind the voice acting though.
Some good stuff in there, but honestly don’t care much about Ghost of Yotei. I loved Tsushima at first but never finished. Guessing this will be more of the same…?
Ghost 2 looked good, vague release date. Other than that it was as bad as expected.
@nessisonett I know! I dunno whether I'm just tired or something but people seem to be really into this show but it seemed like a bunch of nothing and then Ghost which was a foregone conclusion. I mean I'm into Ghost but when you've been waiting for God knows how long at this point for Sony to actually announce a bunch of games this hasn't exactly wowed me.
Are you all serious? All they did was spend most of the time attempting (edit) to justifythe pro then announced one game everyone asked for and now we all okay with this? Remember the ps3/ps4 era when they actually gave us a decent amount of NEW games
Honestly, the only thing interesting was the ghost game coming out in 2025. Legacy of Kain just looks like they remastered it with the same graphics but slightly tighten it up to where it's not blocky, but it still has that older art style. I was hoping they would do a complete full-blown remastered where it gets a graphics remake, but I guess that game isn't as renown as uncharted.
@Yousef- well if Quincy Taggart, portrayed by Jason Nesmith, portrayed by Tim Allen taught me anything… it’s to never give up, never surrender!
I just wish they would announce even more games that looks like Demon's Souls, where you get to fight some sort of dragon creature.
@colonelkilgore respect!!!
I seem to be in the minority on this one.
It felt like they announced nothing except remastered and old game re-releases. It felt like an end of generation promo.
They pulled me back in with the sequel to GoT (my favourite ever open world game) but overall this was disappointing.
I'm also happy for 2k24 on plus because I almost bought that in the steam sale earlier today 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver I didn't mean just this state of play though, I mean certain people (not many) who are constantly negative no matter what Sony show or do.
A marginal improvement over the past few but still sub-par for how far into the generation we are.
@Jimmer-jammer the only other thing I wanted was to see what BluePoint are cooking... Other than that it was an excellent show for me
Can't wait for Ghost 2
Got to be in camp Yotei I mean it’s a big announcement you know? the first was highly anticipated enough and this time we generally know what to expect
I was in shock at the end when they announced the ghost sequel that made the whole state of play for me I am slightly baffled as to why they are releasing two horizon projects 2 weeks apart from each other
Barely anything but remakes or remasters if you don't like action games.
Ghost of Yotei trailer was a thing of beauty!
Not bad at all, although I'd say it wouldn't be good enough if it wasn't for that Ghost 2 announcement!
Still, several games were interesting to me so I'm quite happy with it
It was okay. Best announcement was Dino Crisis and Blood Omen coming to Premium.
@Mintie Yeah, it’s hard not to let the imagination run wild on what Bluepoint’s cooking up. For me, I’m most curious to know what Barlog and company have been beavering away on. Who can tell exactly what Sony’s PR strategy is these days, and had this been billed as a big showcase, I’d have likely been unmoved but as a State of Play, I thought there was some pretty cool stuff in there!
@BasedBear did they though? Did they?
Because what I saw was a montage of ps5 pro enhanced games, literally on repeat for 60seconds. I literally saw the same games over and over, we're they going for the o we don't really have any enhanced games so if we show the same ones over and over then it looks like we have more to offer.
Also throughout I just saw old games with a lick of paint, not even a demon Souls type blue point overhaul. Just the old games smoothed out and a paint job.
In this modern times for myself that just isn't good enough, they deserve a true reboot of sorts.
The same way demon Souls was built from the ground up but keeping the original combat.
Same way Capcom have breathed new life into the old resident evil games.
Same way Dead Space kept it's suspenseful horror but graphically and audio they completely overhauled it for modern times.
And last of all, sorry but we 100% didn't need a Horizon Remaster, they literally patched the game for PS5 anyway. 9.99 is an insult
@Bez87 "And the remasters come on, we live in an age where resident evil games and dead space are being remade from the ground up not just lick of paint. Even mgs snake eater is having a proper 4k texture and animations overhaul"
I get it if you complaint about Horizon remaster.
But are you comparing a very niche IP like Lunar with very popular IP's like RE, MGS, Dead Space and 3 big company who own them (EA, Capcom, Konami) have the budget to do remake from the ground? The company who own Lunar IP, Game Arts, only has 24 employee.
And Legacy of Kain series is pretty much dead for 20+ years. The last game was released for PS2. So a remaster of Soul Reaver 1 & 2 is a safe bet to gauge the interest for the series again.
To me it was not worth much of anything I'd play much really, IPs knew, others didn't, only few I'd actually care about, but like what 1-2 is usually better than nothing even if for me that's usually 0 in most of these showcases.
I'd say okay or good, went okay as I'm brutal that way, most times there isn't really anything for me these days even with me broadening to other genres in showcases most of those don't end up in showcases so of course that means the showcases I will be saying they are average at best. Which is fine but yeah just usually nothing for me to care about in years as much as retro pickups.
But for everyone else I'd say it was fair for what was offered. Indies were good, fair remasters, yay to Legacy of Kain remaster 1 & 2 but Aspyer they better put effort in. Glad the CD survey was worth it. CD being busy with Tomb Raider/Perfect Dark makes sense and seeing an older IP of theirs, some cool PS1 mechanics or older Amy Hennig story telling why not.
Wasn't too familiar with the Lunar JPRG remaster/collection (seen the name but that's about it I know nothing about them), cool to have others get a chance from audiences.
Metro for PSVR2 is just great to see, the atmosphere and gameplay of those games is great. I'm getting into Fear 2 but horror shooters hmm. Metro just does it well.
Dragon Age is really trying and I'm impressed by the marketing effort over other companies. Not my kind of game but I know people interested and I appreciate the world and characters just not gameplay wise my thing.
Horizon Remaster confused me did they say 10+ hours of new content, NEW audio or re-recorded audio? Besides the obvious of visuals? Pass for me I myself hated it, tried 20 hours, got an idea what it was like and moved on, I know people that may want to 'again' but also may not.
New Ghosts of game/Ghosts 2looks fair, I do wonder how far Sucker Punch can go though. I myself think it's fine but I think a Duology would be fair besides a trilogy but many go trilogies of course.
Monster Hunter Wilds looks good but that HDR or whatever they are going for makes it look worse then it could be of world detail.
For myself nothing besides Kain remaster but otherwise it looked fair for what else was offered.
The online games or whatever they were seemed fine. I vaguely remember Tower of A but yeah forget the A word so much. Was always a fair concept unless confusing it with a different game one with a farm on a walking creature I forget the name of too. Both seemed fair.
No kids games get announced after i saw the list.
It was really dreadful.
0/10
Glad i didn't even watch the PlayStation direct.
@PuppetMaster not Lunar more Soul Reaver.
You really think the kids of today will care for that? The only people who will be purchasing those are going to be people who were around and played the Soul Reaver games.
Soul Reaver was an absolute Classic of a series. It deserves a fresh take and graphic overhaul for modern hardware.
Not a take the originals and smooth out the graphics and give it a paint job.
I'm just over the rehashed efforts of remasters, we got a plenty of those in the ps3 and ps4 eras. But when you get remakes like resi 2, 3 and 4, Demon Souls, Dead Space, and mgs snake eater.
I for one appreciate the effort to breath new life into old games in that way. Modern graphics, Morden controls with the original spirit of those games.
Horizon don't get me started on that. It already got a PS5 patch, I ain't paying 9.99 for a remaster of a game in which already got a patch.
I know I'm a minority.
I've been playing games since the 80s I'm more of a forward looking gamer than a gamer who wants to play old games with a paint job. If that makes sense.
Soul Reaver 1 & 2 remaster PLUS dropping Blood Omen into ps classics!!!!!!!! Let's gooooo
not sure why this is getting good reviews considering it was just Ghost 2, pointless remasters and zero reason why to buy the Pro
I voted excellent. Everything looked good with the obvs standout titles. Ghost of Yotei next year is so awesome
WE ARE SO BACK!!!!
Only 1 game for me🤦♂️at least better than the last one.
@Bez87 yeah it seems that the fanboys here are easily placated...not sure what BluePoint have been doing for the last four years either
@Yousef- After playing so much of DW9 and dealing with the bad English Voice Acting I was hoping they'd improve it. The game looks better than 9, I'm just hoping the combat is better or is it still the same flow system.
Hoping the Voice acting gets better as you play.
@QBGaming12 there’s definitely a lot of evidence and statements from devs confirming that this is NOT the same terrible combat system from DW9.
I hated the English voices in DW9, but I honestly don’t mind them in origins. Nowhere near as cringe as DW9 was in my humble opinion.
@Bez87 "You really think the kids of today will care for that? The only people who will be purchasing those are going to be people who were around and played the Soul Reaver games."
Many old series got new fans who are still young because their parents let them played the remaster version. It's the same with old movies and music who got new fans because they got re-release or remaster. I say there's a good chance that some kids who watched this SOP and found Soul Reaver looks interesting then ask their parents to buy it.
Heck, i bet a lot of adults skipped Soul Reaver and now some of them interested to try the remaster. You never know but that's what remaster for especially for a series who already dead and buried for 20+ years.
So i'm not sure why you're so pessimistic.
Ghost of Yotei looks absolutely ridiculous!
I wasn't expecting much but the highlights for me were:
This was not a bad State of Play but imo Sony needed a homerun. Lets hope we get some surprise announcements for TGS.
It was okay.
I will admit it was better than I expected but I don't think that just ending it with a ghost sequel announcement somehow saves Sony from a generation of just garbage mgmt. It's insane to see People saying Sony is back or redeemed. Aside from that and the remasters it was essentially third party Marketing as expected.
However, I do think that the state play flowed a little better than previous ones despite not showing much of anything new that interested me. However there were a few minor surprises for many gaming tastes. Could of just left M. Cerney out of it though.
I will say this though, man...... that Dragon Age fight looked janky as hell. targeting not working sometimes and all kinds of jank animations. with all the positive previews that came out last week I'm kind of surprised at how not great that fight looked.
The HZD remaster shouldnt exist. Period (hilarious that even an unnecessary remake of HZD got shafted with its release date. Releasing the same day as Dragon Age...
The curse continues 🤣).
Hell is Us looked interesting though 👍
@KundaliniRising333 you're right the DA combat looked so bad it was almost unreal
@KundaliniRising333 10 hours of re-done motion capture, re-recorded voiceovers, and other additional content. All for $10, too.
@scoobdoo right? It's interesting too because I watched extensive previews last week which kind of got my hopes up because it did look pretty decent and everyone seemed to Come Away With It pleasantly surprised. But man this being a hand selected piece of content that they chose to show at a Sony state of play looked so much worse than just the capture footage from those youtuber previews, it was kind of shocking.
Soul Reaver, Stellar Blade DLC, and Lunar were great to see. Ghost, man, I don't know. Tsushima was good, but it was. So. Repetitive. If they cut down on all the unnecessary side stuff (or make the side stuff interesting), then I could see grabbing it eventually. Lack of Resident Evil sucks, but there's still TGS.
Good, apart from the VR and ghost games I didn't much care for the rest, solid show.
I was pretty happy to see a couple of bizarre games, great remasters, and a huge reveal!
It was alright. Which is probably how most of the State Of Plays goes these days.
I got really excited when they said they were revealing new titles that would utilize the PS5 Pro and it was just Ghosts of Yotei.
Weird one for me because I’m definitely not happy to find myself looking more forward to old games than new ones… but then Ghost 2 happened. Ghost and DS 2 in 2025 is a winner year for me
90% of what was shown were multiplats. But sure, Sony is back!
All I saw were remakes remasters and rehashed. The same stories the same games just with a new PC character because “everyone is special”. No originality No imagination and sorry no sale!
@OldGamer999 the rumor is they did pay $750 million to have the exclusive rights for GTA6. Tho no one has confirmed it with Sony yet cause it’s far off. But yeah they will have that and market the advantages of PS5 Pro. It’s a Sony move we all knew they would do.
Overall, it was decent, a solid 7/10 show for me. Exceeded my expectations, which is always nice. Definitely a step up from the last State of Play. Astro Bot & Stellar Blade DLC, A Midnight Walk, Lunar, Legacy of Kain, Horizon Remastered and Ghosts of Yotei made it a good 30+ minute show. Strong variety of games and good pacing all around.
It was good. Could have been worse
@LastSaneManOnEarth Sony has to listen to its fans and its fan’s want more and more PS4 sequels. I myself got so bored of the PS4 formula. Some PS fans want more variety in the software but most are happy with what the PS4 games were and just want more of that. To me it get’s boring fast. However it’s better than Concord so thats a plus.
Pretty good. Nothing crazy but definitely a solid showing.
The show wasn't mind blowing, but it's much better than they've had for years. Presentation was human instead of the Nintendo format of disembodied robot announcers talking over a YouTube playlist of trailers. The astrobot free dlc and got were the big highlights, Sakaguchi was a highlight to me. Fell asleep a while when Cerny soothed us. Mon Hun picked it up. Goy (lol) looks great. Not the old PSX/E3 experience but more watchable than anything they've had in 4 years.
Honestly thought it sucked aside from Monster Hunter Wilds (which had already been previously announced and shown off) and the DLC for Stellar Blade and Astro Bot.
Quite mediocre to be honest. Ghost of yotei looks epic so I'm down for that and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the horizon remaster so for a tenner I may well update my existing copy.
finally announced a new first party title. Astro Bot is great but Ghost of Yotei is beter.
Meh. Can't honestly say I'm hyped for any of it, but I got Astro Bot this year so I'm good. And quite frankly this just strengthens my resolve to stop supporting Sony more; most of the games they put out are just not interesting to me anymore. However, I am happy for people that are excited for the games being shown!
Despite some misgivings about what was leaked, I was pretty much interested in 90% of it.
I am really happy to see VR getting the love it deserves and Ghost of Yotei just looked phenomenal!
A lot of it was already known, granted but otherwise a really good show.
It was 30 minutes of pure slog, accompanied by terrible "remaster" of Horizon game that was saved by new Sucker Punch game.
6/10
I am happy with Lunar. Everything else doesn't interest me now. Time will tell.
Yawn fest, terrible.
Good show, compared to their previous ones it was an obvious improvement.
Mostly because of Ghost of Yotei, that was quite the surprise!
Happening ~329 years after the previous game, it seems.
Very curious to see more gameplay, the mechanics, hows it gonna be compared to GoT.
I had 0 expectations going into this when I watched it this morning and I left pleasantly surprised.
I was quite against the Horizon remaster originally but it looks like a bit of effort has gone into it. I finally see Sony's vision with these remasters; it is to get them on PC. Makes me wonder if that Days Gone remaster rumour is true...
was average at best would give it a 6/10 just more remasters
About 10 titles Id ike to play shown, including some surprises.
Not too much chat, about the right length and games I want - this show was very good!
Now if I can just clear some of this backlog....
Why are people saying "where are the games?" , they must of missed the whole SoP. There were a lot of games shown, that have got me very interested.
@IntrepidWombat yea I liked Tsushima but it was very repetitive. The new one probably isn’t day 1 for me but i’m sure I will be happy to check it out at some point. Get the feeling it’s a smaller game though. Not sure why.
While there wasn’t much for me, we got to see Mark Cerny again, I think every game had in engine footage or gameplay and we got quite a few release dates.
Very good SoP in my opinion, probably one of the best.
The Midnight Walk was a great opener dripping with Tim Burton inspiration that should be great to play in VR or flat.
Hell Is Us also peaked my interest with the futuristic mannequin enemies as the add a creepier vibe than typical monsters.
Soul Reaver is the goat so glad to have that back, and getting LoK: Blood Omen added as a classic is a great bonus as its the start of Kains journey, and the series is all about him.
Lunar & Dino Crisis are also nice additions as I have played neither but will check them out.
Lego Horizon looks ridiculous in all the right ways, and HZD going the £10 upgrade route to bring a 7 year old game to modern standards is the right way to do it.
Ghost of Yotei then closed the show on a high as I have every faith that it will be as good as the original.
@nessisonett what's surprising is how soon it's coming out and that the story is quite different with a new protagonist. The last part usually doesn't happen with sequels.
I thought is was a good show. Soul Reaver, Hell is us and Ghost were my highlights. Also happy with getting Dino Crisis on PS Plus with LOK. All in all it’s a good showing
My initial thought was the Ghost of Yotei reveal was needed to make it a good show. But even without it, it wasn't too bad. Perhaps nothing spectacular, but there were several games that I can see myself playing at some point, so I can't complain.
A solid show with a stunning looking first-party reveal trailer at the end, I'm happy with that.
I just started playing Ghost of Tsushima for the first time yesterday. It's fantastic, so seeing Ghost of Yotei announced was the highlight of the show and I will absolutely be picking it up.
It's pretty good, with the exception of all the vr only titles, new modern dragon age, and alan wake dlc, the games list is pretty good 😃
I had low expectations so was pleasantly pleased and really happy with the VR announcements, decent showing IMO.
Got you, @UltimateOtaku91. A bit like you with Xbox then...? 😉🤣
And yes, I am jesting... 👍
Dragon age looks like turd, and I’m not really into more swordplay 3rd person stuff but those all look top quality anyway. Very happy with the Hitman trilogy in VR (£10 upgrade if you already have it flat), and metro is looking very good in VR too. Would have liked a few more games I’m personally excited about, but I can’t say it wasn’t an objectively good showing.
Ghost of Yotei was the only interesting game in the entire showcase.
Rest are multiplatform, remasters or simply something I have zero interest in.
One game in a showcase of games I am supposed to be excited for. If that's the best they have, yikes!
Yeah no that's not a good showcase or getting me excited for the future or PlayStation in general.
(Full disclosure I have similar thoughts about my series X as well. They at least have a couple of games coming out this year that have some potential so there is that.)
@Fiendish-Beaver Haha old me definitely but I try not to talk about them much anymore apart from a dig here and there, and I've fully stopped going to purexbox, think my last comment was well over a year ago.
Good for you, @UltimateOtaku91. As my Mother used to tell me; if you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing! I try my best to stick to that even if it has meant my tongue having been thoroughly chewed and not just bitten... 😂
It was an OK state of play, but I don't want to purchase any of the unreleased games that they showed, except maybe Ghost of Yotei
I don't own a PSVR2 - I could buy at least 8 brand new games for the price of a PSVR2 so those games are no good to me.
I do not understand why ports and slight remasters of old games keep being released. The talent and time should be spent making PS5 games or completely remake the game with 2024 graphics.
I hope the hack & slash, souls type genre of games slows down soon.
Slash - Dodge - Slash - Parry - Slash - Die 🤮
The whole reason for this state of play was to show Ghost of Thingy to justify the PS5 Pro. It felt very cobbled together otherwise.
I’ve sort of accepted Playstation is only making a few po faced photo realistic games a year, and what I really want is a bunch of fun but simpler stuff like what Nintendo provides. I will see the generation out, but I doubt I will buy a PS6 if this is what Sony wants to sell us, as opposed to what we want to buy.
@RiverGenie
Exactly the same. Both consoles
And the Ghost reveal at the end was the only thing I'd get. Oh, maybe Wilds, down the line at some point.
10 upgrade for the Horizon seemed fair, on the other hand it was a glut of remasters and meh from me otherwise.
Oh well.
Monster hunter and archage looked good for me
Very good for me personally, if I come away from a state of play wanting to try 5-6 games then that's great for me personally. People go into these with expectations on what they want to see so they don't rate what's actually there or thinking that everything on show is supposed to appeal to them when there's lots of different types of players wanting to see different types of games, so coming away excited for a handful is great in reality.
I voted excellent (disclaimer: I was tired and battled falling asleep).
You can't expect much more from this format.
I thought it was good. At least it wasn't another, "hello fellow kids, here's our multiplayer game lineup" situation like the past few. And they finally announced the kind of game I bought into this ecosystem to play.
Other than the Lake House DLC for AWII and the Soul Reaver remasters, not so much for me on this SoP.
The remastered HZD looks great, but it always has been a great looking game since the PS4 era. GoY looks great, but it needs to offer something unique and different from GoT to really gain my attention.
But glad there was something interesting for everybody.
It was a poor showing for me. A pointless remaster and some third party games.
I also find it funny that the Horizon remake is now being applauded because it only costs £10. It shouldn't even exist!
@BasedBear
I don't think Sony even managed to justify the Pro, certainly not at $700. Probably doesn't matter, however, as an enthusiast product like that is one people are simply going to buy or not. For me, saw no reason to upgrade just like last gen when I stuck with PS4 over the Pro.
Thought it was OK. The claymation horror thing and Ghost of Yotei were nice surprises, and I'm super excited that Soul Reaver is back. Can't say the rest got my pulse racing though.
The Midnight Walk was the star of the show for me!
I wish the remakes they were doing were more PS3 era though. Would love Puppeteer to get another chance with a remake. A real forgotten gem.
To be honest, if it hadn't been for the Ghost of Yotei trailer and Legacy of Kain then this State of Play would have been mediocre at best. They rescued an otherwise dull showing.
@Yousef- As long as it's not the hold R1 and press Square, Triangle, X or O type of system and it flows better. Just make the flow combat system flow better(had to say it).
I'm excited for the game. The fact that it doesn't cover the whole period is interesting because I'm guessing this is a stopgap to DW10.
I'm more or so excited for SW6 whenever they announce it. Which hopefully is next year.
@Bez87 They didn’t justify it which is my point. Yet everyone is like all is forgiven ? Then that Zero Dawn remake is a spit in the face. Like what is Sony doing ?
@Gamer83 They didn’t it just amazes me how every sees Ghosts 2 and is okay with the f***ery Sony has been on.. or at least , let is slide
@BasedBear
Well, this is a brand-specific website so I'd expect more positive talk than negative. Even here, though, you'll find people who have issue with what Sony does but none of us call the shots. End of the day, all you can do is vote with your wallet and see how the market overall reacts to what Sony does. That'll dictate a lot of these decisions.
It was pretty mediocre up until the end. If it wasn't something we already knew about, which was a decent amount, then it was just DLC and remasters. Then Ghost 2's trailer started. That made it solid for me, but only because we finally got something substantial announced from Sony's 1st party for the first time in a long time (aside from Astro Bot).
It's taken way too long for PlayStation Studios to announce much of anything other than Astro Bot, so this doesn't erase all of the wastes of time the previous SoPs were mostly this year. They need to start doing this more often as there's still several studios that have showed nothing new on the PS5 or at least nothing for several years.
