I certainly hope they make it back. Nintendo seems to be a lock, they are huge supporters of E3, just gotta get a couple other big dogs back and they'll be good. Sony might have too much arrogance/pride to return, but I know lowering the costs and getting rid of the whole public access debacle would really help. Here's hoping the ESA did some soul searching and gets it right

Dude moaned and groaned until E3 went away, he got the keys to the kingdom and has completely flopped. Nintendo bailed on him, Sony sends some scraps and the rest is just live service updates. Feels like gaming is in a weird place where we can't even get to be hyped for shows anymore.

100% agree with this. I know it's a cliché say but it was the "Christmas for gamers". So glad I got super obsessed with it when I did and got to experience it. G4, Spike TV, etc, it was truly fun, would plan my whole E3 week, watch everyone's conferences, the pre shows, the after shows, what a time! Still hoping they find a way to make a comeback! Respect Keighley, but he has quickly proved that his whole schtick is a symptom of how great E3 was, not the cause. We NEED E3!

I got beef with this. Was sold this stupid console because of the "exclusives", not to mention on how they gave these big sales pitches for how the games can "only work" on PS5. Gonna start thinking twice about preordering these big, bad "exclusives"

Absolutely. The very people who run PlayStation went on a multi month tirade about how "generations matter, exclusive this, exclusive that", got us all fired up and buying into the PS5.
I'm simply following their lead, but we're almost two years in now, this is just how it's always worked anyway.
As for games, we were teased with Demon's Souls, Rift Apart & Returnal, but have gone completely backwards now + third party quality control for all these platforms is in an absolute state of terror.
Forbidden West is a perfect example that last gen has peaked, it moved zero needles, just a great PS4 game with fast loading times. Only speak for myself, but I went through the pre launch grind to secure the PS5 and invested in new hardware to go beyond what the PS4 delivered.

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 not being playable on PS5 & Switch feels like a crime. They need to get on that! Heroes as well!

I enjoyed it, felt more like a bloated end of gen PS4 game than a next gen "experience" like Rift Apart & Demon's Souls were, but all of these post launch patches prove that they should've launched as a Summer blockbuster and as a bonus would have avoided the Elden Ring fight.
I have similar fears for God of War Ragnarok (and any cross gen game at this point) and will probably hold off on pre ordering after stepping up for HFB and feeling slightly burned.

They've pretty much cashed in all of the goodwill/loyalty Layden and crew earned from the PS4 era. The Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst era sucks

This sucks. At this point I've went from "when are we going full PS5 only" to "I hope they at least keep Insomniac's Spidey & Wolverine PS5 only". Feels like their whole generation plan got wrecked and the people who actually got PS5s are falling on the sword.

July. Sony doesn't touch holiday releases with the exclusives unless it's a console launch and I don't see them kicking off 2023 going all out on a cross-gen game.
Seems like they aim for a big exclusive during the Summer now and it's been very successful with TLOUII, Tsushima & Rift Apart

@naruball fair points! I understand the desire for the live service $$$, I'm just saying that I sincerely hope that it never comes at the cost of the incredible single player games that they put out. It's a difficult balance that has already sadly corrupted one of the big three.

They're gonna do whatever they want and the only thing I can do is speak with my wallet, but I'll still say it: don't fix what ain't broke. 20+ years of being a legendary brand off of the backs of incredible single player games. I truly hope they never forget what made them the juggernaut that they are.

Sad. I understand the hate for the ESA but always a little surprised at the cheering for E3's fall. It was a mid-year Christmas for all of us, one week of just all out gaming stuff.
I still stand by what I've always said, the PS4 isn't the global juggernaut that it became without the legendary E3 2013 press conference. Haymakers after haymakers and it was only possible because it was all LIVE. I'll miss E3

Pretty much a rebrand of PS Now and sigh of relief. I'd like to keep the party going that we've had raging since the beginning. Just keep the big exclusives coming like we've had since PS1 and they get my continued support.

Feels like the first time I've agreed with Jim Ryan in awhile. The proof of "subscription quality" is directly in front of us on you know where. Keep these massive legendary exclusives coming and I'll keep showing up to support them. Subscriptions are NOT the future of gaming.

Low expectations/interest for Spartacus, I'm guessing The Show 22 will launch with the highest tier and they'll push PS1 - PS3 classics as a heavy sell.
Extremely interested in a state of play the day after and it especially makes sense if they expect the reaction to Spartacus to be weak and need to remind everyone about the big incoming exclusives

Jumped back in and all I've got to say is that it's still a masterpiece! Just scratching the surface of what these built for PS5 games will do!

Really looking forward to the war of PlayStation gamers who value exclusive, offline, no service or microtransaction games vs Jim Ryan, Hermen Hulst and their "bold" live service vision.
All I know is that we went from a pretty good ride on PS4 to what seems to be getting progressively more bumpy on PS5.
If the big exclusives like Demon's Souls, Rift Apart, Forbidden West, etc ever stop getting released, I think those two will find out very quickly "brand loyalty" doesn't go very far here. Xbox learned the hard way and no matter what Twitter tells you, they still haven't recovered 10+ years later. Don't fix what ain't broke.

No one is telling you not to play GT7 or anything, and shout out to everyone who plays without touching that crap, but y'all better learn real fast to not give an inch or Big Jim Ryan will be asking us for $5 for a stack of wood in Horizon 3.

Not surprised, they should have done nothing and just added some classics to the PS+ offerings. They're never changing the full price big budget AAA system seller single player game strategy until it fails, and it ain't failing anytime soon, this will just get them some bad PR.

Those are the people who think the future is all digital, services & subscriptions (thanks Microsoft). It honestly gives me more satisfaction in supporting the PS5 Special Edition. Who knows when or if it will end, but I'm riding the big banger PlayStation exclusive train all the way and this kind of stuff just amps me up even more

Welp the multiplatform fears came true. This is no longer any different than Madden & NBA 2K now.
This is why I will always torch carry for platform pushing exclusives, besides a few 3rd party gems (Village), the first party bangers are the only ones going all out anymore.

Good business move, nothing for us. The Bungie Halos are legendary games, Destiny is great at its core, but I personally don't like how "perfected" they have gotten the hamster wheel to keep try to keep you engaged 24/7, 365 and I am very concerned BIg Jim Ryan & Hermen Hulst have their eyes wide open for that stuff.
I know they have a reported 10 live service games in dev, just hoping this isn't a push away from the big single player exclusive bangers, they should ask the Xbox One how going all in on service games works out.

I agree with most, hate all this, see us racing towards a GAAS future in an on fire train, but I still don't believe the Japanese companies will sell out so easily.
If I had to guess it will be Take-Two because CEO Strauss Zelnick is a cutthroat corporate suit or Warner Bros. Games who are stuck in limbo with that AT&T/Discovery deal.

Taking Microsoft's bait on the PC stuff is Sony's biggest long term mistake. Their path forward is the Nintendo way: fight no war, build a console island with all of the exclusives.

The message from Sony is very clear: if you want another PS4 gen with all the best exclusives and partnerships, it's gonna be at a very premium price.

The more they push, the more I'll think twice about pre ordering and what not, but I've seen the other side with how low quality game pass games can be (let's be real, that's what this article is about), so I'll take the good with the bad.

Very Simple for me: keep delivering AAA-Single Player-Exclusives and we're good.
