@LifeGirl I don’t know if you understand how emulation works, but emulators are able to upscale the graphics of these older games, while also utilising various anti-aliasing techniques to get rid of jagged edges. You can go to Digital Foundry’s Youtube page, where they have many examples of this.
I love how the company that’s supposed to be advising other Sony developers on how to build and nurture a live service platform are the very ones neglecting, and unable to fix, their own broken and burning platform.
@Texan_Survivor 5) Don't forget that according to a VGC article in 2021, Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, said: "We’ve done differently than the competition – we don’t just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on. So, we improve the technology, we upgrade the visuals, and we make performance enhancements. And that’s why I think our remastered titles typically do so well.”
@Orpheus79V It seems to run fine at 4k with an unlocked framerate via emulation. You can see for yourself in a Digital Foundry video showcasing its performance in both RPCS3 and Xenia.
@Gamer_Guy I think they're doing it in reverse, since most of those games, including: all three of the Bioshock remasters, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, have already been offered on PS plus Essential.
@get2sammyb Because it’s becoming unsustainable. The shutdown of numerous live service games just this year has proven that. People have become wary of this and are less inclined to invest in an always online game asking you both for your time and money, only to shutdown months later. The competition in the space is fierce, and Sony will be competing with top dogs, like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch 2 along with dozens of other live service games. Let’s not mention the fact that they will be competing with themselves, since they seem to have more than a few Live service shooters from their own studios.
What happens when most of these first party Live Service games fail as this part of the industry continues to collapse under its own weight? Will Sony just shutdown those developers? We’ve seen it happen to many other developers and continue to. Even if one game becomes a hit, what happens to the other 11 that people have sunk both time and money into? Do you just shut those games down and issue an apology on social media? There is much more to it than just “Oh hey, it’s a new game that’s being updated constantly. Great.”
@Mio_Nakashima Why would they mention a console refresh, months before release, while they’re still trying to sell the current version? If they did that, most people would just hold onto their money and wait for the newer version of the console.
@Mio_Nakashima A sequel to SAO: Fatal Bullet would be nice. It was a flawed, but pretty decent game that I think could be improved upon with a second outing.
@KingPev I think FC5 had a better environment, story and characters, but FC6 made some good improvements to the gameplay. However, it was the the obnoxious and irritating rebel NPCs of FC6 that really turned me off of the game.
@Uncharted2007 I deleted it, then went to "purchases" section of the library and downloaded it again. Take note, Marvel Ultimate Alliance was delisted in 2018.
@Uncharted2007 But wouldn't you still be able to just download it again, since it's in your library. For example, Marvel Ultimate Alliance was delisted some time ago, but as far as I know, I can still download it if I deleted it from my hard drive.
@get2sammyb I don’t think that people are upset about the lack of exclusives. I think it’s the lack of communication and a presence that we were all used to before Jim Ryan took over. The Playstation Experience show, for example, was not just about announcing new exclusives, it was about celebrating everything PS related and sharing that with the fans. Now everything is about metrics and numbers. And whenever they do communicate, it’s usually through some business magazine or website. It's pretty sad how it all came to this.
@thefourfoldroot1 Those articles were from other journalists at Bloomberg. As this Push Square article states: "This is according to a Bloomberg article by the reliable Jason Schreier".
@Bez87 2K is notorious for putting F2P monetization in full price games. It's ridiculous and scummy, especially when you consider that 2K was the first company to insist on raising the price of games this gen.
@PegasusActual93 What you fail to mention, though, is that once you bought a game, back then, it was yours and was a completed game with actual content. Those games didn’t rely on servers that could shutdown, leaving you with a paper weight you paid money good for. I didn’t have to wait for devs to fix a game I paid for, or add content that they promised would be in the launch version of the game. You didn’t have to buy battle passes or go to an in-game store to unlock cosmetics, you just played the game or used FREE cheat codes. There was no paying to level up faster, so games weren’t designed with that in mind. So yeah, maybe you can argue inflation, but that’s still better than corporate greed any day.
@Loamy I agree. It seems as though blockbuster AAA and indie games get the most love on this site, whereas AA games appear to get a harsher treatment. It's good to see more of these games, though.
@Loamy I agree. I'm loving the fact that we are seeing more and more AA games. Most AAA games just don't do it for me, as many seem designed by marketing teams and managers as opposed to passionate devs with a strong vision.
@NEStalgia EXACTLY!! People who think that all of this money is reinvested into these corporations to make more and better games need look no further than Take Two. The billions upon billions of dollars made from games like GTAV and NBA2K have done exactly what to benefit gamers?
@RBRTMNZ Hey man, I disagree with you, but don't want to get in an argument or 'cause problems, so I altered my response. If I upset you or anyone else, my apologies. God Bless!
@RBRTMNZ I’m black and I live in a country that’s predominantly black. Does that give me a licence to be critical of this game? Maybe if people would stop using racism as a shield whenever someone is critical of a game, movie, etc. there wouldn’t be so much drama over something so few people care about. Surely you can tell the difference between toxic comments and proper criticism.
"Developers are going to fully utilise the PS5 as they ditch PS4." Is this even a prediction, though? It seems pretty obvious that this will happen, since most of the already announced AAA titles won't be available on the PS4. Methinks someone wants to make sure that they get at least 1 point.
@Would_you_kindly Actually Square-Enix has always been pretty good when it comes to releasing game demos. Their more recent demos for The DioField Chronicles, Star Ocean: The Divine Force and Valkyrie Elysium have garnered a good amount of attention, but they've actually been doing this for years. Wish other publishers would do the same.
@FatalBubbles I think it was Gamespot. It was a very unprofessional and controversial review of the game and I challenge anyone to go and look it up before making judgements of either side.
@Hundred_Hand_Slap Nobody scrutinized the FIRST Last of Us remaster (it was the SECOND remaster that clearly was not needed). So why would they scrutinize the FIRST Dead Space remaster. How can you even compare the two.
@Somebody Because they believe that many COD players will either jump ship or choose to purchase an Xbox over PS5 once they realize that they can just subscribe to Gamepass, as opposed to buying the game every year. They also think that Microsoft will offer better advantages and exclusive modes, gear, characters, etc. to their version to sweeten the deal even more.
@TrickyDicky99 If that were the case, then why are emulators for older systems so popular now? With millions of downloads across PC, Linux, Android and Mac, it proves that people still want a way to play older games. If you don't like it, that's fine, but you surely don't speak for everyone.
If this Activision deal going through forces Sony to be more competitive, by improving their total lack of communication, being more pro-consumer and improving PS Plus Premium, then I’m all for it!
@TrickyDicky99
People didn't buy a PS5 to just play older games. They bought it to play newer games and subbed to Premium to have the OPTION to play retro titles, because maybe they enjoy both. See the difference.
They may not all be bangers, but I'm just glad that someone in the industry is giving AA, single player games some love. Everyone else is so focused on AAA, live service games with battlepasses that it just seems refreshing to see a company take a different path.
But so many people thought it sold extremely well, since it debuted within the top three spots of the sales charts. I keep saying that unless you see actual numbers, landing at or towards the top of the sales charts, on release, means absolutely nothing.
The fact that Sony is struggling to get their own games on to this service lets you know just how little they care. At the very least, most of their classic 1st party titles should have been available from day one.
I’m sorry, but this is inexcusable when you have gorgeous open world games like Horizon Forbidden West running at 60 fps on the PS5. This game doesn’t even come close to the level of detail and graphics that Arkham Knight was able to achieve and that was on last gen consoles. There is absolutely no good reason for this.
