The first 18 minutes of gameplay have from EA’s upcoming Dead Space remake have been published by IGN, and it’s looking like a remarkable upgrade from the PS3 original. While this opening is largely identical to the 2008 original, there are some minor tweaks that long-time fans will notice. Protagonist Isaac, for example, spends a few seconds building the Plasma Cutter – rather than simply picking it up from a workbench.

Here’s the first 18 minutes of the remake, as published in 4K at 60 frames-per-second by IGN:

And if you wanted a point of comparison, here’s footage from the PS3 original. As you can see, it’s largely identical in terms of encounters and level design, but it obviously looks incredible on modern hardware:

The final game will have other alterations, such as full control in the zero-gravity sequences, which will dramatically change the overall gameplay flow. But it looks like this is making adjustments in all the right areas, while still maintaining the spirit and atmosphere of the original. Unbelievably, it’s due out next month – and we’re looking forward to putting it through its paces.
