Re: Capcom Strategy Game Kunitsu-Gami Fails to Meet Sales Targets

IslandLogic

@get2sammyb Just because something is smaller and cheaper to make, doesn’t mean it’s going to to appeal to a lot more people. A niche title is still going to be niche no matter how much money you through at it. Take a look at steam to see how many smaller, less costly titles are doing well. Many of them doing better than AAA titles.

Re: Concord Cost Sony Over $200 Million, And Didn't Make a Single Cent

IslandLogic

@gipsojo Unfortunately, “Free-to-play” isn’t just a switch you can turn on when things don’t work out. The monetisation, UI, shop have to all be reworked. More items need to be created to be sold and you need to attract WAY more people to the game to purchase those items. Don’t forget that people don’t work for free and neither do online servers. Why would they continue to pump money into a dead game?

Re: Site News: Where's Our Concord PS5, PC Review?

IslandLogic

I just don't get the logic behind Concord. If Sony really wanted a successful hero shooter, they could have used their own heroes. A hero shooter with characters from their own popular IP, like Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn, Killzone, Resistance, Sly Cooper, Uncharted, etc., could have been amazing, if done right.

Re: TV Show Review: Fallout - RPG Series Marks Another TV Triumph

IslandLogic

@Americansamurai1 Yeah, I think it's because the original game creators and writers, for now, seem to have more input in the direction of these TV shows/movies. Expect that to change once investors and executives start to turn away from the dry husk of comic book related content and focus their greedy eyes on game related media.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Helldivers 2 Refuses to Budge Among Heavy Hitting Competition

IslandLogic

@StrickenBiged For the most part, I think it comes down to who exactly is making the game. Live service games like Helldivers are built by passionate devs who focus on creating a great game first and then add sensible, affordable monetisation after. Failed live service games are often, but not always, built by a boardroom of executives, managers and marketing people, who prioritise monetisation and chasing fads over creating a great game.

Re: Sony Partner Deviation Games Shuttered Before Shipping Its First PS5 Project

IslandLogic

I just don’t understand why these newly formed development companies don’t start small, and get their feet wet with smaller indie/AA titles instead of jumping headfirst into the deep end with these large, overly ambitious AAA titles that could sink most companies. There may be a few companies that saw success using that formula, but for the most part, you gotta learn to walk before you run.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Be More Transparent About PS5, PS4's Most Played Games?

IslandLogic

Contrary to what some people are saying, I think having a "most played" game list can be very helpful. If I'm thinking about purchasing a multiplayer or live service game months after launch, a chart can help me determine how healthy the population is for that game before buying. A chart may not give exact numbers, but at least I would have a vague idea if the game is still relevant or if it's slowly dying. Based on that info, I could then decide if it is worth buying or not.

Re: Insomniac Promises Fix for Incorrect Flag in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

IslandLogic

I’ve been reading complaints and an article about how Insomniac butchered the Spanish language option by making Spanish words gender neutral, to be more “inclusive”, thus confusing many Spanish speaking people. If this is true, which based on the evidence it appears to be, then that is just shameful. Imagine trying to change a language that’s existed for centuries because it doesn’t agree with your narrative. This is peak cultural appropriation.
