Re: Sony Makes Shocking Decision to Shut Down Bluepoint Games

HotGoomba

Well, this is just pathetic.

Yes Sony, closing down the developer behind the Shadow of the Colossus and Demon Souls remakes—two of the best PlayStation remakes of the past decade—is a very stupid idea.

This is Microsoft levels of ridiculous. I thought that closing Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin were already ridiculous, and they were, but closing Bluepoint? Baffling.

This is why we shouldn't hope for Sony or Microsoft to buy companies. Because they're just going to shut them down, even when they're doing their best work.

Re: A New Engine for The Elder Scrolls 6? Don't Be Ridiculous

HotGoomba

People really are overreacting with this. I'd rather an engine built specifically for a game than anything else, and as long as the new Creation Engine works well for Elder Scrolls 6, than that's really all it needs to do. As buggy and infamous as Creation Engine is, it is the Bethesda engine, and the problem isn't that it's old, it's that it's buggy and needs to be fixed, and if version 3 does that, then I see no reason to complain when we haven't seen a millisecond of gameplay.

Would Unreal Engine 5 really be better than the Creation Engine anyways? Haven't we spent the whole damn generation complaining about how it's optimized horribly for games? Or are we all supposed to collectively forget about that, because Starfield was bad and the Creation Engine is the problem?

Starfield isn't bad because of the engine it's on. It's a bad game because it's Bethesda's emptiest, most boring title, and they spent no time on developing a compelling story, strong dialogue options, interesting characters, and designing the game in general. The engine was imperfect, yes, it definitely could've been way better. But you could say that about any game engine these days.

Re: Horizon Hunters Gathering Is Guerrilla's Next Big PS5 Game, Horizon 3 Still Years Away

HotGoomba

@Oram77 That is very true. Helldivers being successful is a net-positive for Sony Interactive Entertainment, as, in-house or not, it is their title, and it's likely made up for the cancellations and the failure of Concord, and even if Horizon Hunters Gathering or Marathon fail or don't meet expectations, they have enough money to continue funding more online games and get another success story like Helldivers.

Re: Horizon Hunters Gathering Is Guerrilla's Next Big PS5 Game, Horizon 3 Still Years Away

HotGoomba

I finally played Helldivers 2 yesterday with friends and it was a blast. Definitely the best Sony-published online/co-op game.

That did get me thinking. The only really successful PlayStation Studios online game in the PS5 generation is really Helldivers, which is developed by Arrowhead, an independent studio. Every other game—excluding Destruction AllStars, a Lucid-developed game that most people already forgot about—was developed by an in-house PlayStation Studios team, and most or all of them failed. Destiny 2 doesn't really count, that released before Sony bought Bungie.

I wonder if there's a reason for that, if Arrowhead's independent nature made them more free from Sony Interactive's input, or if Arrowhead just has more experience compared to other PlayStation Studios.

I'm hoping Horizon Hunters Gathering is different. I do really like the art style, contrary to some other commenters here, and I think that it could be fun, but I worry that it'll fall for the same issues that the last few projects like Concord, Firewall Ultra, and their many cancelled titles have. I'm hoping for the best, but worried for the worst.

Re: PS3's Sly Cooper Team Shut in Oculus Layoffs, Two Other Devs Closed

So, the developers of some of the best VR and Meta exclusives – Asgard's Wrath, Deadpool VR, Resident Evil 4 VR on Quest – get awarded for their wonderful work by getting shut down by Meta.

I love virtual reality, it has provided some of the most unique and immersive experiences in video games. But Meta being the leader of VR, and with basically all of their competition besides maybe Valve basically nothing for VR, Sony/PlayStation included, I'm worried that this is it for virtual reality.

Between Microsoft, Meta, and Google, I think that big conglomerates getting involved in the video game industry has been a massive mistake.

Maybe Valve's new headset can change things for virtual reality, maybe Sony can actually develop some damn VR titles, and maybe some other competitor could join the VR medium, but right now, it isn't looking good. For now, hoping the best for everyone laid off.

Re: 'Everything Will Be Made by Humans': Expedition 33 Dev Says No More AI After Post-Awards Heat

HotGoomba

I don't know what's more annoying:

A. Big companies overhyping AI and laying off 99% of their staff for some LLM that is about as intelligent as a toaster.
B. People getting mad at even the slightest use of AI in an otherwise fully human-made masterpiece of art.

Stop getting mad at smaller companies for using AI for placeholders. There are a hell of a lot of better reasons to critique AI.

Re: PS5 Fave Expedition 33 Stripped of Indie Game Awards, But Not for the Reasons You May Think

HotGoomba

@Zeroo ???
What was the point of being so aggressive with your reply? I'm sorry, but there was honestly no reason for the harsh final sentence of your message.
I was replying to someone else, and I specifically said "If they didn't put a disclaimer...", since multiple people in this very comment section said that there was AI generated assets in the game at some point in time.

I may not know the full context of the situation, and I did under goodwill assume that some of the comments were being truthful, and for jumping to conclusions, I fully apologize. But that doesn't justify you calling me "clueless" about AI, especially since my information was based off of other commenters here.

If they really did only use LLMs for minimal coding, I don't disagree with you, but I still think they should be upfront about it. Regardless, I hope you have a nice and joyous day.

Re: PS5 Fave Expedition 33 Stripped of Indie Game Awards, But Not for the Reasons You May Think

@LifeGirl Ok, I understand that AI is an advanced technology and will likely be implemented in many pieces of media. That I understand. But I just don't like how you're boiling down human artists as "old people yelling at clouds". These people put hours, weeks, years into their craft, so I think it's disrespectful to just boil it down to something so simple and condescending. You can like AI art, I'm not going to stop you with that, but don't just disrespect the human craft.

It's also ironic how you're saying this on an article of a game which, despite its use of AI, is 99% developed and made by hundreds of humans. Is there a single original piece of media almost completely crafted by AI that's actually good?

I feel like people are way too ok with the fact that Sandfall just flat out lies to its audience about its use of AI. I don't care if it is a minimal amount. I don't care if it barely affects the game. Don't tell people something that isn't true.

I have no sympathy for them losing their spot in the awards ceremony. Not because they used AI period–honestly it's so miniscule that I doubt it would have affected sales, and this particular use doesn't bother myself as a non-AI artist. They deserve losing their spot because they lied, especially since there was no reason for lying.

Re: The UK Government Shoots Down 'Stop Killing Games' Campaign in Official Debate

HotGoomba

Just to note, the "games were always just licensed to users" point isn't really accurate. When you bought a disc or cartridge on a, let's say PS2 or GBA, the developer can't take that away from you. They may own the copyright, but you own that disc/cartridge until you lose it or whatever.

Really disappointing outcome, hopefully the EU has a better response. As an outsider, it seems like the UK government has been out of touch its citizens, especially their younger ones, with this and the age verification controversy.

Re: Sony Won't Follow Game Pass Model on PS5, Doesn't Believe It's Sustainable

HotGoomba

@dodgykebaab Cling onto the past all you want. I don't even have Game Pass anymore as of last year, I don't care about my own old comments, and I don't care much about how you feel about my old comments.

If you're gonna expect me to take time out of my day to defend a service that has increased in price by 1.5–2 times the price, or expect me to apologize for opinions I don't stand by anymore, I'm afraid that you're wrong.

So please, leave your troubles with more recent articles please, not articles older than the current generation of consoles. Thank you.

Re: Another Live Service Game Is Killing Off PS4 Support

HotGoomba

@Haruki_NLI Didn't PUBG switch to Unreal Engine 5 last year? That engine is notorious for poor optimizing (GRRR, MARVEL RIVALS!!!!), so 1440p 60fps is honestly better than I would've guessed.

And, only 1440p? Is 1440p already an outdated enough of a resolution to be scoffed at? If so, don't tell any PC players about my 1080p monitor lmao

Re: 'No, I Won't': Kojima Rejects Playing Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

HotGoomba

@TruestoryYep The "A ___ Film" thing is very common for directors of a movie. You'll see it a lot at the end of movie trailers (or at least used to, I think it's still done nowadays), and you'll usually see it on posters for films, especially from big name directors (Christopher Nolan, Russo Brothers, James Gunn, Ryan Coogler, Jordan Peele). Obviously, they're not the only people behind the film, and I doubt that many of them are trying to make it out like that, but besides the actors or characters, they're the face of a film, and that alone can influence whether someone watches a film or not. That, and also the director is arguably the most important part of a film, as they are the ones who bring together that team, they bring together a film's vision, and they get the film to the finish line.

Now, I'll be honest. I haven't played any of Hideout Kojima's games. But I do know that he directs the games within his Kojima Productions studio, and he does have a vision with all of them. So, yes, he's not the only one who puts these games together, but kinda like film directors, he does have a huge role in the production in the Metal Gear and Death Stranding games, so I understand why the "A Hideo Kojima Game" tagline is on the box art and credits of those games.

Re: Live-Action Assassin's Creed TV Show Still Happening, Netflix Green-Lights

Ubisoft will do anything but give us a new damn Rayman game.

Note: I know that Ubisoft announced that a new Rayman was in the works, but considering the fact that this is the company that is infamous for cancelling projects and having them be in development hell (Skull and Bones, Beyond Good & Evil 2), I'm not believing anything they say until we see a title, a release date, and footage. Maybe.
