PUBG PS4 1

The Battle Royale shooter that started it all, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, has confirmed it's the next live service title ending support for the PS4 console. From 13th November 2025, PUBG will only be available and supported on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

In a blog post on the PUBG website, the studio says that it has taken this decision to ensure a "more stable gameplay environment on console and ensure a smoother, more seamless experience with future updates". Those playing the game on PS5 "will see improved visuals and more stable frame rates. In addition, we expect to reduce ongoing crash issues through memory-related optimizations."

To achieve this, PUBG won't be available on PS4 or Xbox One following server maintenance on 13th November. "This was not a decision made lightly. It comes after long and careful consideration, in pursuit of the continued growth and long-term future of PUBG Console."

Of course, logging in to the same PSN account on a PS5 that you used on the PS4 will see your profile, purchases, and progress carry over. Interestingly, for players who can't continue playing on PS5, it seems the developer is open to offering refunds.

"Refunds for BATTLEGROUNDS Plus and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will be handled in accordance with each platform's refund policy and procedures," the blog post states. "For more details, please contact the customer support team of your respective platform."

After the update, PUBG on base PS5 will run at 60 frames-per-second at a 1440p resolution. On PS5 Pro, it'll be a 2160p resolution at 60fps. "The supported specifications for current-gen consoles were determined through extensive technical review and internal testing to ensure the most stable and optimized PUBG Console gameplay experience."

From the blog post, here's a comparison between how the game looks before the transition, and what it looks like after:

This is the second major live service game to confirm it's stopping PS4 support in a week, as Genshin Impact is also being removed from the last-gen console in April 2026.

"Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size, we will be discontinuing support and updates for Genshin Impact on PS4 in future versions," is what Hoyoverse said last week. The PS4 version of Genshin Impact will be delisted from the PS Store on 9th September, and then microtransaction purchases will be pulled on 24th February. All access to the PS4 version is then frozen on 7th April 2026.
