Re: Ghost of Tsushima Fans Think the Game May Be Coming to PS5

Glassneedles

@Mysterio I saw speculation (I think on one of the digital foundry videos about Ghost, Days Gone or Jedi Fallen Order) that they would need to use the latest Playstation SDK to get a patch out and moving could cause bugs etc.

Of course I'd argue that doing a patch so a game runs better on PS5 gives it a new lease on life and more sales but what do I know.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Fans Think the Game May Be Coming to PS5

Glassneedles

@Mysterio that makes sense! As someone who skipped God of War at the time it came out and only really played it on PS5 (I bought it in 2019 and got a few hours into it before stopping because the PS4 Pro was so bloody loud) I definitely recommend playing it.

I don't understand why they haven't gone back to more games and updated them, especially the Last of Us Part 2 which is only a few months old...

I think developers should give consumers more options and have resolution and frame rate limits individual so any future consoles with backwards compatibility can brute force to 4k60.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Fans Think the Game May Be Coming to PS5

Glassneedles

@Mysterio if you are fine with 1080p you can play god of war at 60fps on PS5. I just finished it yesterday and it still looked great at the resolution.

Of course if you have the disc version you can run it unpatched and get it at whatever resolution the quality mode runs in at 60fps too since it didn’t have a 30fps cap.

Re: PS5 Fans Are Very Concerned About Ubisoft's Comments on PS4 Backwards Compatibility

@nessisonett well just to make you more baffled unity doesn’t support rest mode either. Iirc rest mode was added early 2015 and a few games didn’t get patched to support it. Syndicate does though! (Assuming you get to play it).

Also remember to pick up the unity DLC since it’s free as an apology for the game.

Speaking from my playthrough of syndicate in late 2017 the base game was fine on my pro but I got terrible lag and glitches in the DLC. Hopefully it’s that causing the issue as I didn’t like the dlc anyways. Base game was great,

Re: Sony Abandons Decades-Old Japanese Controller Logic for PS5

Glassneedles

I had a launch PS3 model from Japan and it was interesting the way this impacted some games who seemed to have a single worldwide build and changed settings based on your consoles region.

For example quite a lot of games would swap the confirm and cancel buttons which could get confusing. The worst that I remember was red dead redemption which seems to use a mixture depending on what menu you were in. It took me 5-10 minutes to start playing.

Also some games would be censored. I had a U.K. bought copy of the original uncharted but it didn’t have blood when playing on my PS3.

Digital foundry did a great video on this a few months ago using control. Short answer is it’s almost as good as native using the latest build. They did notice some slight haloing of object edged when you zoom in but it isn’t noticeable in play.

My current plan is to play through control when it’s on steam using this for 1080p with all the ray tracing on max. Apparently with that I can get close to 60fps locked on my 2070 super as it renders at half resolution 960x540) and does the DLSS to that.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One Is Frogwares' Next-Gen Detective Game

Glassneedles

I’m watching this one closely as I loved crime and punishment. Won’t be preordering it as Devil’s Daughter was mind numbingly awful. The overarching story was pretty bad and I can’t believe how terrible the action sequences that they shoehorned in were. I must of had to replay the bit where you are running through the forest at least 30 times.

Re: PS5's Backwards Compatibility with PS4 Has Fans Baffled

Glassneedles

@leucocyte there is 0% the ps5 is using directX 12 since that is a Microsoft API originally created for Windows and now used on the Xbox (it’s actually named after DirectX since it was codenamed the DirectX box and that stuck). I imagine they may of taken inspiration from the DirectX implementation of ray tracing but won’t switch over for obvious reasons.

I do think it will have Vulcan support which is the new(ish) standard from the people behind openGL.

What confuses the hell out of me is this isn’t a PS3 to PS4 situation where the architecture is completely different. It’s still an x86 cpu with an AMD GPU. There was a leaked specification from AMD about a chip that had specific compatibility modes that matched up identically with the original PS4 and the PS4 Pro so I was expecting close to 100% compatibility at launch (with a bit of a question mark around games involving specific peripherals) as the SoC could effectively turn the new bits off and just function as the original hardware (like the PS4 pro does with non patched games with boost mode disabled).

I really hope it was just a badly phrased way of talking about an enhanced mode for games since he talked about the much higher clock speeds (when a variable clock rate was one of the main features touted!).

I was never expecting Sony’s solution to be as good as Microsoft’s considering the difference is company sizes, resources and just experience with backwards compatibility stuff (even if you completely ignore the amazing work Xbox has had with backwards compatibility this generation one of the main focuses of windows for almost 30 years now has been trying to make sure as much software as possible runs on the new OS no matter how badly made it was).

Hopefully we get clarity in the next day or so.

Re: Soapbox: We Need to Talk About Font Sizes in Games

Glassneedles

This really annoys me as well. Mainly on RPGs I play on the pc as I need to sit quite close to my monitor to read the text in things like Pillars of Eternity. Imagine my surprise when I started Disco Elysium a few weeks ago and it was perfectly readable and had options to increase the text size! I imagine the developers really paid attention to it since the game is 90% text. Hopefully they leave it as is when it comes to PS4

Re: Rumour: Is the Unannounced Batman Game Called Arkham Legacy?

Glassneedles

@PhantomXIII It's more than Selina got tricked by Bane (basically her maid of honour is working for him and she kept up with some underhanded comments) than she's working with him. It gets a lot more in depth than that and there's a bunch of stuff about people coming over from alternative timelines and stuff so I'd say it's not the best thing to read if you are new to Batman.

Comic book sales have been trending down since the 90s crash with the current best selling books selling between 100k-200k (outside of anniversary issues and hyped number ones). It's really a problem of comics mainly being sold in comics shops with not a lot of opportunities for new readers to come in. Not sure how well DC will do with their new initiative (it's called 5G for 5h generation) but I've got my fingers crossed it's not terrible.

Quadcopters are super cool! I do the racing/freestyle stuff more than the boring aerial photography stuff. It gets me out of the house exploring the countryside more and my electronics and soldering skills are dramatically better than before I started

Re: Rumour: Is the Unannounced Batman Game Called Arkham Legacy?

Glassneedles

@PhantomXIII They aren't married, they were going to get married in issue 50 of the current run but Selina got cold feet and left him at the alter. The last page of the comic revealed that it was all Banes plan to break Batman....

The current Batman series is a bit weird as the writer they have on it (Tom King) was very vocal about him writing a 100 issue epic (he's currently at 81) and it would end in a massive series change that would change Batman forever! A few months ago DC announced they are replacing him at issue 85 and he would finish off his series in a new title called Batman and Catwoman. No one really knows if he's still going to be allowed to make the change or not. Also the current rumour is they are going to continue with standard Batman stuff till issue 100 and then relaunch it with a new younger Batman as part of a massive thing where they relaunch all the big heroes with new people in the costumes.

I do love comics but I can't in good conscience recommend you get super into them as it can get really confusing at time (and my other hobbies are building Quadcopters and D&D).

If you want to read some good Batman I would highly recommend the first 2 volumes of the New 52 Batman (The Court of Owls and City of Owls) as they are both really really good and seem to be what the new game will be based on.

Re: Rumour: Is the Unannounced Batman Game Called Arkham Legacy?

Glassneedles

@PhantomXIII that’s right. Batman Family is a commonly used term for his friends and allies. Probably can definitely expect to see Nightwing, Robin and Oracle and if I’m dreaming we would get Batwoman and Stephanie Brown as either Spoiler or Batgirl (she is the only character to have been both Robin and Batgirl at some points).

Personally I’d love it if it was a version of the Batman and Robin comic by Grant Morrison from 2009. That had Dick Grayson as Batman and Damien as Robin and is really fantastic. If they did a mash up of that and Court of Owls I’d be very pleased.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishment to Be Taken Off the PSN Store Following Publisher Dispute

Glassneedles

@ralphdibny I don’t mean to put you off the devils daughter but please be aware it’s much more action focused than crime and punishment which I absolutely loved. There is a scene where a chase is happening in a forest and it took me 40 or so minutes of replaying before I got through (this just be me being terrible at games however) and that plus the truly awful ending to the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth. Some things are improved such as exploring the area around Holmes’s flat but I don’t think I’m ever going to replay it whereas I can see myself replaying Crime and Punishment every few years.

Re: There's a Drone Champions League, And Now There's a Game

Glassneedles

@NoxAeturnus Liftoff on PC kind of has this with its drone builders. You don’t need to bust out the (virtual) soldering iron or anything and FC + ESCs aren’t modelled at all but it’s got most of the rest. I don’t recommend building your own drone at first anyways. Thing I’ve been recommending to people for months is the Tinyhawk RTF bundle.

The thing I’m more concerned about with this is how it flies. Acro (this is the default mode people race in and unlike with a photography drone it doesn’t return to level when you let go off the sticks and doesn’t have a maximum angle so you can do all kinds of tricks) is quite tricky to fly and I can see people getting frustrated and quitting. That plus the fact that throttle is going to be confusing as it’s on a centring analogue stick (racing quads don’t have altitude control so the throttle doesn’t self centre giving you more control).

If anyone has any quad questions let me know. I’ve been flying for 4 years and while I’m not by any stretch good at racing I have filled my brain with lots of quadcopter stuff.

Re: Guide: All PS4 HDR Compatible Games

Glassneedles

I agree with @get2sammyb I've tried my PS4 pro on both a Sony KD-55X8505C and a Samsung UE65JS9500 and I can barely tell the difference between 4K and 1080p when I'm switching modes in Tomb Raider or Horizon but HDR is like night and day, makes an enormous difference.
