@nathanSF I think that's a wise choice. And then of course we have the shining beacon that is CD Projekt Red. Showing that you dont need microtransactions or a million different priced copies of a game to thrive. And most importantly they are honest and transparent with their customers. Treating us with respect and like a friend. And absolutely would never release a game in the state Anthem was in. Heck they still wouldn't release Anthem in it's current state. Not to mention all the awesome things they pack in their standard priced games. CD Projekt Red proves that all these other companies are simply greedy scum who would sell their own mother for a profit. I knock Kotick, Zellnick, and Wilson most certainly would.
@OneManDroid Do you really not understand why this game gets the justified hate it gets? Let's start with E3 2017. They show a trailer for it proclaiming it to be in game footage. Turns out it was a completely fake trailer that was essentially a proof of concept. And many of the Bioware's devs were learning what the game was supposed to be about for the first time watching said fake trailer. That is how bad the leadership was. That after 5 and a half years in development they had nothing to show but a fake trailer. First outright lie to the public. Second, 3 months before the game was launching a bioware dev was asked if the game still looks like it did in the fake trailer. To which they responded just you wait and see. Implying it may be better. Then of course we have the scummy microtransactions which have no place in a full priced game. Then we have a loot service game with a broken loot system. Amongst a ton of other bugs like the game crashing frequently and regularly. As you talked about the joke of an endgame, with zero content. The game had no business launching in the state was in. Least of all as a full priced game. That combined with the devs continued lying about things. Like saying armor would drop in Elysian caches but then having that be a lie. Then them delaying content and going silent for months at a time and blaming the players for their inadequacies. To finally the Cataclysm event being essentially a similar activity to every other activity except with some slight wind and a blue filter. People need to stop playing and defending garbage like this.
What happened Bethesda? They have been crap for some time now. One of the more greedy anti consumer companies out. This game is trash. Poorly put together cash grab. Omg and could the sisters be any more cringe inducing obnoxious? It's only gonna get worse if more reviewers dont call them out on their microtransactions greed. Despite all the scrutiny Rockstar went and put a casino in GTA Online. Where do you think it's going from here gang?
Ubisoft is one of the worst offenders with microtransactions and loot boxes and pay to win. Much like Activision and EA. It's sad to see game journalists defend this nonsense. They literally use all kinds of psychological tricks and walls in games to make people shell out more than the 60 bucks. And no the companies do not need microtransactions to survive. It is greed pure and simple. And it would be refreshing if companies were honest when they explain the motivations for their actions. If you think for one second this has anything to do with the integrity of the game then I have a bridge to sell you. If that were the case then how does them selling xp boosts not affect the integrity of the game. That was like when Y's net provided this knee slapper of a reason for going with the Epic game store by saying they wanted the player to have the best experience and the Epic game store was that. 8 months later and it still doesnt have a shopping cart. They would be respected a lot more if they said the truth. They wanted that sweet sweet Epic cash. In the end it is almost always about money. Stop defending this stuff push square!!
There was no interest in funding the game until the kickstarter backing. They gave them a 6.5 million dollar interest free loan. Once that happened they got interest from deep silver then Epic. What is the ultimate pre order? Backing a game before it's even created. And yes I believe all people who backed kickstarter should get all bonuses and season pass. It is only 59000 people. Y's Net is clueless.
@nhSnork I appreciate the thoughtful response my friend. Too many people would have continued just a petty back and forth. So thank you for respectfully responding. I see what you mean. And I agree with you on most counts. Unfortunately this is mostly a profit driven industry which would prefer to iterate than take risks. At the same time within this framework there still can be a lot of unique and interesting games. We find ourselves at time when certain companies are simply stagnating because they are risk averse. While at the same we are seeing a wide breadth of unique and often innovative gaming experiences, particularly from the indie developers, but not just them. I'm enjoying many of the retro styles being refreshed with new technology. You could also argue however that innovation doesn't always lend itself to a fun experience. Despite being only iterative hardware you could make the argument that the Ps4 has been one of the best hardware cycles ever because of all the amazing games. As you say time will tell what legacy the Ps5 secures for itself. But as I've said I'm excited and hopeful. And of course we still dont have all the specs. Again thank you for the respectful response
@nhSnork Well since you want to take pot shots at me. Enlighten me oh wise one. What would be innovative in your opinion? Despite Cerny also saying they were going to not only use ray tracing for graphics but for an exponential increase in audio immersion. Maybe they could build a micro distillery in it so we could make our own alcohol. Or maybe a pizza oven. Untimely it is about games. And Cerny is giving most developers what they want.
I for one am super excited for Ps5. Let's look at how many amazing first party properties Sony has. That will be even more astounding with increased technology. The biggest thing is the increased cpu speed which will enable innovative ai in games. No matter what Sony does we always have the people who are too cool to be impressed by anything. Especially on this site. Some of the commenters are like caricatures in that regard. But it's good for a hearty laugh!
Give me a break dude. It is plenty innovative. Just not the way you like. I would argue having ray tracing and the fastest ssd drive is great innovation. Cloud gaming is terrible. As soon as I dont own my games it's full time retro gaming for me. I'll break out my rgb modded duo-r and play on my production video monitor with all its spritely glory.
@JJ2 That may be true also. But the head of AMD said that the Sony processor had a special sauce which they had yet to detail. Which I dont recall her saying about Microsoft's chip.
@SilentS Actually I would say that's a pretty far fetched idea. Yes it's bollocks Sony is censoring at all. But it is ludicrous to think any game developers would abandon the market leader over that. At the end of the day it's about money. And with the latest polls showing people are more interested in the Ps5 52% to 14% Xbox to 26% Nintendo, that is unlikely to change. Combined with an over 100 million person player base because of backward compatibility and only the most niche Japanese sexualized games would consider such a move imho.
@3Above Not to be a grammar punk. But the correct term is jibe not jive. As in the information doesnt jibe. It's a sailing term meaning to line up. If I was using a word incorrectly I would want someone to let me know. Peace
@kyleforrester87 It's going to do just fine senor pessimistic!! I agree its gonna be a slow burn type phenomenon. As people continue to make amazing things more and more people will be drawn in over time. That combined with what a powerfully unique creation tool this is that will get regular updates. The future looks bright. The PS5 being backwardly compatible is the cherry on top. Its literally a game you buy once that grants you access to a bank of 100's of games that never stops expanding. Count me in!
@nessisonett The female v is on the other side of the cover. You just need to turn it around. Ultimately it's about gameplay not what a character looks like. We know CDPR is the real deal in that department. And remember you can customize how v looks. The cover v is just one of many looks. Secondly the treatment and respect they give their customers is second to none. Dont get caught up in the negativity brought up by sjws masquerading as game journalist. Until we can play it ourselves they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
No Sammy we are not to blame. This industry is completely unregulated and as a result it gets away with all manner heinous activity. Anthem has deserved every single piece of outrage it has received. The E3 2017 demo said actual gameplay. That turned out to be 100% fake. They continued lying straight up to and through release. From saying armor would be in Elysian caches. To implying the game still looked like it did at e3. To having the temerity to say when caught lying about why there were such massive downgrades everywhere, that that was the cost of transparency. In any other industry they would be sued for false advertising. And this is just one game. Then we have EA which I'm not going to get into other than to say that they say loot boxes and other slot machine inspired microtransactions are not gambling! The gaming industry is one of the few that blame its customers for all its shortcomings. Gaming journalist should be consumer advocates not glorified mouthpieces for game companies. With most of their articles nothing more than commercials or apologist for horrendous and predatory business practices. Which is why more and more people are looking to the YouTube personalities to do this. Anger is not inherently bad. It is reaction to being taken advantage of for years and is often necessary. It is often the only reason some of these practices change. So how how about the industry do to like president Roosevelt said when he said the buck stops here. And take some responsibility.
The terms you use like glaring and sickening to describe the game's box art is very telling in many ways. Firstly the glaring issue according to you assumes three things. Firstly that it is objective fact that the cover is bad. And secondly that it's not accomplishing what it's box art is intended to. Thirdly that it tells you nothing about the game. The fact that I and many others like the box art disproves this. Box art is meant to draw the unfamiliar in to find out more about the game. The bold yellow definitely does that. Saying it tells you nothing about the game is demonstrably false. The futuristic gun and attire clearly show this is not a sports game, puzzler, or cutesy platformer. Furthermore the title gives you more than enough information or at least where to find more. Finally to use such a deeply reactive term like sickening to describe such an insignificant thing as the box art of a video game is troubling. Sickening is the fact that the demand for smartphones has created literal slave labor in China. And they have nets on the roof of apple factories there to catch the workers who want to kill themselves than be a slave another day. I think a little perspective is in order dude!
It is clear Sony was extremely prescient skipping E3. All their moves have been spot on with the wired Ps5 info to the death strandings trailer release date. And I imagine they will release a state of play after the E3 dust has settled with release dates for their other heavy hitters and perhaps a few surprises!!
The rarely content with anything crew of commenters strike again. Hilarious. Nothing any company does is ever right or up to anyone's standards. And of course they could do it better.
Wow what's with all the game snobs? Saying things like yawn not impressed. Bored after 5 minutes. Maybe you should lower your dose of adderall. I'm not saying it looks like the best thing ever but it looks like a very good and solid game. The game snobbery on display makes certain commenters on this site seem like caricatures.
Bioware just needs to kill Anthem. Apologize to the people who bought it and give them a 30 dollar credit toward another bioware/EA game. It is just embarrassing at this point. The problems are too numerous for the skeleton team still working on it to fix. Focus all your attention on making a good Dragon Age and or new Ip or sequel. There is no saving Anthem at this point.
@Peach64 A huge amount of game development is spent on creating the engine. Fortunately guerilla games gave Kojima the decima engine to use. Which powered horizon zero dawn. By the time the game releases it will have been in development over 3 years. Which is plenty of time when you have the engine made already.
@RoyalGuard Not really my friend. The reason many reviewers noted issues was because Sony released review copies almost a month before release. With patches still in the pipeline. The consumer release fixed a good majority of the issues. And most people rarely saw significant bugs. And here we are only 3 weeks later with a patch that fixes most issues. The game had been delayed enough imho.
@QualityGeezer Absolutely!! You will get at least 50 to 60 hours of enjoyment with the main story and side quests. It's a bit of a slow starter. But after about the 5 hour mark it really picks up and is a blast!!
@RoyalGuard They are going to release 2 episodes a year the first 2 years. Then one longer experience the third year for a total of 5. Each episode will have different characters and deal with different sub genres of horror. The only recurring character will be the curator. Who is kind of like the the psychologist from Until Dawn. Someone who introduces each story and talks about your choices. The developers said there would be clues about future episodes in each of the earlier ones.
This really is not a very good review. As others have said it feels short and rushed. Also many of points made in this article are the opposite what was said in most other reviews. Like most said the voice acting was solid. And from what I heard I agree. Also the length of the campaign is a good thing. Most others did not say it felt padded but was organic. As for having supernatural elements being a negative that is just absurd. It is a video game after all. No one said this was going to be historically 100% accurate. As for why people care about review scores. It is not because people are obsessed. It has to do with fairness. Video game opinions while subjective also have objective levels of quality with gameplay that most people agree upon. As most people agree God of War was a good game. So when reviews of this and days gone get bad reviews it is unfair. Especially when so much time and work goes into games. Which is why people react emotionally to the unfairness.
I wouldn't quite take this review as gospel. As usual the push square review is at the low end of the review spectrum. It has almost an 80 on metacritic. And The YouTube reviewer ACG gave it a buy. I find at least for me I agree more with him. But I love push square as a site. I've just been finding their reviews dont really match the quality of the games lately to me. And while 6 isn't a terrible review it is not great. If you asked someone to rate you as a person and they said you were a 6 you would not be terribly happy. I will trust the consensus and Acg on this one.
429.99 which will be a steal! They will obviously take a loss on the system at first. So glad Sony listens to its customers. Physical media, ssd, and single player games.
I think it will be 429.99. Which will be a steal! Love that Sony listens to its customers. Physical media and super ssd! The 3d audio sounds cool. Day one for me.
I do not feel bad for Bioware at all. They chose to release a game at 60 dollars knowing it had essentially come together in the last year. Stitched together from disparate parts. Unfinished. No endgame and a broken loot system in a looter shooter. Then on top of that they continue to lie to the community and are completely tone deaf to them as well. Asked about Elysium chests one dev. said on three occasions armor could be earned by playing the game through the chests. This was of course untrue. But they claimed he misunderstood the questions. And the list goes on and on. I do not think the article is tearing the company down. Just relaying the truth after the company is trying to release unfinished garbage at 60 bucks with microtransactions. Try being truthful and taking a page out of CD projects red's playbook and give your customers respect and value!!

Re: BioWare Responds to Damning ANTHEM Development Report with Studio Statement
