Now that I have settled down, surely this now sets the tone for the pricing for the PS6.
And if that's the case, I'll switch fully over to PC, if I'm paying that sort of money for a console, which will have a mid gen refresh in 3/4 years, I'd rather up my budget and control my own upgrades.
See for me the best example of live service, done fairly well by Sony, is GT7, new cars, challenges, tracks etc.
To me that was live service done quite well, although it's been a while since I played, so maybe that's changed?
A game like Astros Playroom getting a wee update here and there after launch isn't even a stretch to claim it's live service, that's total nonsense, otherwise every game is live service.
Games that get patches for bugs fixes, optimisation etc, or small free content update (say akin to The Witcher 3 when they released a dozen or so freebies) are not live service.
Live service is an ever evolving game, whether f2p with battle passes etc, full priced and evolving like GT7 or Splatoon, or worse, full price with MTX like EAFC with Ultimate Team.
We as a community all know what live services is taken to mean, this article reminds me of that guy at a party who gets drunk and goes all devils advocate thinking he real smart.
I'll pick this up on PC down the line once the expansions and such are out, I imagine it could feel a little lacking day one compared to 6, although maybe the changes will be enough...
@SMcCrae95 - Limmy leading us to a cultural victory sounds about right.
@DennisReynolds I've set it up that way, been on for about an hour and it seems a bit smoother, but I have mainly been exploring, not been in a town since I have updated. Dunno if I'm just imagining it, will see once I get back to a town
@DennisReynolds how you finding those settings? I'll fire it up later on to test but was thinking of leaving the RT on if the boost won't be significant
It's a no from me, I'm not spending another penny on hardware from this gen, my next will be the PS6.
Gives me pause though. I buy a console for convenience, because I can drop a maybe say £1000 (roughly obviously) every 7/8 years and I'll have the latest offerings from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft (more this gen because I bought a Steam Deck).
If the gens are likely to be come less defined and the updates more iterative, then if I'm honest I will be more likely to drop consoles completely (possibly with the exception of Nintendo) and just go for a PC.
If I'm expected to spend more money more often to keep up with the requirements to play, I sure ain't doing it for a console, I'll control my own upgrades thank you.
Won't be for me, I've bought the PS5, thats as far as I go for spending this gen (with Sony) for hardware. I'll keep my money for a PS6 or finally flit fully to PC.
As much as I love gaming and have have enough to spend on picking up consoles, I draw the line at dropping a load of cash on a mid gen refresh.
I can honestly say I would probably never have known much about the MTX had it not been on blast all over the gaming media, that's how inconsequential they are. I don't agree with them, wished they hadn't done it, but it's not like a play to win type MTX so it's not impacted my game.
I don't think MTX are going away any time soon, so if I have to accept them then this is the sort I can grudgingly accept.
Performance is iffy and I'll be honest, I expected before starting that I would have to set it aside. I admit I can be a bit of a 60fps snob depending on the genre, and I expected I wouldn't be able to cope with this.
But it's so enjoyable I have been able to push past it to the point where I have managed to cope with the pop in npcs, frame drops etc.
Still, it would be good if they can't get some fixes in place for the stuttering and make it more stable overall.
Football today but once I am home later will be firing up Dragons Dogma 2, put in a few hours last night, this morning and it is hooking me in already.
That's the problem with the internet, whilst it can be a fantastic resource for many things, it's also gives every self entitled f**kwit the ability make people's lives miserable.
Social media and a lack of education on how to behave online has a lot to answer for.
This one isn't for me anyway so I'm alway gonna have a view of it that it's not worth it (to me) regardless. I was a huge fan of the first, was bored to tears with the second.
But I don't think we need to be doing this for games that are less than 5 years old, even 10 years old.
Take the Resident Evil Remakes. Those I was willing to spend money on, a complete redo of the games, better controls, better graphics, changes here and there to bring them more in line with today standards.
Fantastic Remakes, (even though 3 is meh), worth the money.
This, even for £10, just isn't worth it to me.
I also don't like the definitive way to play arguement. I mean yeah, it's right, obviously, but they can easily trot this out when we hit the PS7 and we are on the 3rd remaster of TLOU 2... Only another £15 if you had the PS4, 5 and 6 version!
RE2 Remake is a superb game, can't fathom why someone would say this (or the original for that matter) is the worst of the series. RE3 & 5 were definitely worse than RE2. IMO of course.
Meh month for me on Extra. Own anything that would take my fancy, the rest I can't see me putting any time into, too many games I have my eye on coming up.
I do like the DualSense, some great additions. Yet to have a stick drift problem (touch wood) but I have had two fail on my without warning, so am currently on my 3rd and 4th since launch.
Never did figure out what happened to them and they were out of warranty, but it's not like they are cheap to replace.
We got one for the young lad in November (for his Christmas), got a great deal from Game, £380 for the disc version with Hogwarts and Lego Skywalker (both disc) and Barbie on Blu-ray.
Safe to say he wasn't too impressed with his Barbie 😂
Imagine the drop off was because a large number of the Xmas purchases were done in November when all the deals were on.
Rockstar will be rubbing their hands at these sorts of reactions.
No one knows a thing about the game other than a short trailer and people are up in arms about their own assumptions of what it may or may not be like 😂
And at the end of the day it will break records as one of the fastest selling games with record numbers sold and billions will go into the hippers of the big guns and R* and Take Two, whilst people still cry about whether it's woke or not.
Scrolling through that there ain't much that grabs my fancy, maybe the DLC for Cyberpunk or AC Mirage, but I've just started BG3 again, and I'm gonna be on that for a while, so those can wait.
I am now finished work until Jan 3rd, today is a busy day but the wife is away for a day out with her friends tomorrow so I will be restarting BG3 and dedicating my free time during the break to playing through it.
I'm just messing around on EAFC, The Crew Motorfest and Lego Drive.
Not wanting to get into anything, got a busy week ahead so not a lot of free time. Finish up for 3 weeks later this week, that's when I'm gonna restart BG3 and commit my time to that.
Well this has truly ruined the Christmas period for me, not sure how any gifts can top the improved stability and performance that Sony have bestowed upon us.
I seen the trailer and yeah, looks great and all but I'm not feeling the hype.
I've played every game, it started after picking the first one up as a kid, begging my mum for it cause it was made in my home town. I've always felt quite proud seeing what it had grown into.
I remember reading my PS Magazines with articles about how 3 would be going 3d, so excited at the thought of running around causing chaos in a 3d open world. I remember getting that one for Xmas and it feeling like a whole new level of gaming.
I remember standing in line at midnight waiting to pick up GTA4, having time off work the next day, to play it.
With 5, it was my first dive into digital content to try to beat midnight queues, it took an age to download.
I dunno if it's the fact it been 10 years, the potential 2 year wait or what but I can't get on board with the hype for this. Maybe closer to the time I'll be a little more excited.

Can we get a soapbox now where Sammy tells us consoles are live service and we should suck it up?

Haaaaaaaaaaa £700 and no disc drive.
Well played Sony, well played.

Re: PS Portal Is By Far the UK's Most Popular Gaming Accessory Right Now
I have some birthday money floating about and have almost pushed the button on a Portal a couple of times then remembered I have no actual use for it.
Seems like a decent bit of kit, glad it is doing well.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Rise of the Ronin?
Nah, not for me this one, I was tempted but reviews put me off.
Might be one to pick up down the line in a sale and when I am short of things to play
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 521
Football today but once I am home later will be firing up Dragons Dogma 2, put in a few hours last night, this morning and it is hooking me in already.
Re: Fresh PS Plus Extra Racing Game Will Be the 'Ultimate NFS Experience'
Hmmm might install this again if there are to be more updates, enjoyable enough game.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Skull and Bones?
I would have maybe been interested if it wasn't £70 and live service.
If I'm paying £70 for a live service game then it needs to be a AAAAAA and not a merely AAAA game.
Re: Poll: Which Xbox Franchises Would You Buy on PS5?
Having also got/had XBoxes this isn't really a huge thing for me.
That said if I could keep it to just having a Playstation that would be super.
So if we could have Forza/Horizon, Fable, State of Decay and Fallout that would be perfect.
Never really got on with Halo or Gears of War, wasn't a fan of Sunset Overdrive...
But really, I don't see this as all that exciting.

BG3. Just BG3.
I said last week I was gonna mix in some Teardown but I didn't, I just played BG3.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for January 2024?

Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS5) - A Slick, Satisfying, and Royally Robust Metroidvania
Glad it has reviewed well, I'll likely pick it up shortly once I have a bit of space.

I got mine added the other day, forgot I even bought anything, took me a minute to remember.
Glad it's all been sorted out though.
Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Demo Inbound on PS5, PS4
Good news, I'm cautiously optimistic for this, did used to love PoP games back in the day.
If a demo shows up I'll be sure to give it a go.
Re: 14 Games on the Way to PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Nothing on Extra that takes my fancy that I don't already own, which is a pity.
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Gets Another Massive Patch Out of Nowhere
Noticed it had updated when I turned it on during my lunch there.
Didn't notice anything changed, was only on for a short time.
Can't fault the commitment from the Devs to improve the game though, fair play.

Re: Monster Hunter World Enjoys Massive Popularity Surge Following Wilds Reveal
I'm tempted, never did pick up Iceborne. Did love it at the time though.
Could be tempted, got a lot of BG3 to get through and a good few new releases I am eyeing though.

About to move onto act 2 in BG3.
Might throw in some Teardown to break it up a little, keep meaning to find a minute to try it out.

Re: Push Square Readers' 20 Most Anticipated PS5 Games of 2024
I don't remember voting in this, so probably didn't.
A few in that top 10 that hold no interest for me personally but looks like a solid enough list.
TLOU2 remaster making top 10 😂
Personally my eyes are on Pacific Drive, DD2, Rise of Ronin, P3R and Wukong.
Also hoping Prince of Persia turns out to be a decent effort as well.
Re: Round Up: All Our Game of the Year 2023 Winners
Thanks for posting all of these. Always makes for interesting reading and it is always a fun way to cap a year in gaming and start a new one.
Looking forward to continuing my BG3 Warlock run then seeing what gems this year brings.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 509
Plowing on with BG3 here.
I started it when it came out, put it down for Spidey so decide over the Xmas break I was gonna have a proper run at it from the start.
Such a great game, can't remember how many hours in, still in act 1 just wandering the map and finding stuff to do.
Re: Jet Set Radio's PS5 Reboot May Be Open World
I loved all of these games as a kid, so this is right up my street.
Crazy Taxi, Shinobi and Jet Set Radio are the 3 that grabbed me right away from what they have shown. Can see me 100% picking these up.
Golden Axe and Streets of Rage not so much, hopefully they turn out well though.
Re: Nearly 5,000 PS5, PS4 Games Discounted in Colossal Christmas Sale
Scrolling through that there ain't much that grabs my fancy, maybe the DLC for Cyberpunk or AC Mirage, but I've just started BG3 again, and I'm gonna be on that for a while, so those can wait.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 507
I am now finished work until Jan 3rd, today is a busy day but the wife is away for a day out with her friends tomorrow so I will be restarting BG3 and dedicating my free time during the break to playing through it.
Have a cracking weekend all!

Best part of £30 for a car? Madness.

Still fire up Crazy Taxi every now and again on the GameCube
