Persona 5 is the only title in years that they've done this with, this is a complete distraction by SEGA to hide their lower sales numbers on unrelated factors
@Meowmixes98 it's buggy to a major degree (I've personally encountered a bug that's preventing me from entering any game modes), it's arrived 7 years late (it wouldn't even win in a "best game that released after a protracted development" contest this year), and has delayed some of the content for months in the future (this game started as an Ares adaption, and the most that's been announced is that it's a free update in a few months). It's nowhere near GotY.
I think it's important to point out that Microsoft aren't pivoting towards free multilayer, they're shifting their entire brand to being Xbox-branded PCs, and the issue there is quite simple; PC platforms don't yet charge for online. They're not doing it to be kind to customers, they're doing g it because launching a PC gaming platform that requires membership to play online is effectively asking to be killed immediately.
Including yourselves, considering this is being posted 3 days later!
"Many theories suggest it is an alternate route in the game"
...and this shows you didnt even watch the announcement. It tells you about how a "different path" will be offered with "new developments", overlayed with a picutre of Zhange Jiao (an antagonist from the game), which is very much announcing a new what-if path (where he doesnt die in the first chapter of the game, and instead is teamed up with).
Counting Human Fall Flat as a success story born from being included in GP, when the devs dont count the players from GP when calculating the total sales of the game, is quite dishonest. Thd fact the game has been on sale for 10 years, is available on mobile for a cheap price, and is constantly 70% off in sales, are better indicators of this number.
So, the game fails at being a game at the fundamental level, yet it gets a relatively-hogh rating because it looks nice? That's basically the entire issue with this game.
@get2sammyb half-and-half really, it was very much an open beta, but considering there was barely any balance updates or any sign of feedback affecting gameplay, I fail to see what it was accomplishing.
Premium only aiming for "1 a month" and not even making it a big/in-demand title (e.g. Backwards Compatible title) is terrible, and I have no doubt they're the only ones that think the service has been "satisfactory" (the only impressive thing about it is the amount/quality of games they've taken off the service).
@SeaDaVie Headband is overpriced and average quality, the third-party ones are generally seen by the community as better (I have a Kiwi Design headband with a battery pack, that all fits in the official case and cost me less than the Elite Strap - and a third of the price of the Elite Strap with Battery pack). Even at that, it's just RRP for a Meta Quest 3S painted black with all the accessories. It's not a rip-off, but it's not a bargain either, it's just standard pricing (overpriced considering the discounts each respective element has had over the last few months).
@SMJ both Meta Quest+ and Game Pass Ultimate are included when you buy their respective devices anyway, so there's no need to include their value. If I was spending £289 to get the headset without the branding, I'd be getting the subscription anyway, regardless of buying the Xbox bundle or not.
Also the Kiwi Design brand (K4) fits the Meta Quest 3S and fits in the bigger case (I have both a K4 Boost and a Carrying Case). There's also other brands that advertise the same (an Elite-style Strap that fits in the official case).
@SMJ Current bundle is £289 (it's been as low as £250 in the last few weeks, but we'll take it at that price). On Amazon, buying it gets you a 20% off an Xbox controller (so £36) and the Elite Strap is £50. All together, this is £376. Even ignoring the Amazon deal on the controller, the "Xbox Meta Quest 3S" is barely £4 cheaper than buying all the items separately without discounts (and as previously stated, these items on sale would combined be discounted £60). You're completely overexaggerating the value (the only item that's below RRP is the Strap, and anyone that has the device would tell you not to waste your money on the Meta strap and just buy third party).
It's barely a deal though, Quest 3S is $280 (currently discounted from $330, but it's been regularly priced at the discount for in the last few months) the Strap is $80, the controller is $50. It's basically the same price to buy everything separately.
The article points out that there's no distinction between the DLCs with regards to the figure, but I'm wondering is there even a distinction between the Game Pass benefit (where the Expansion Pass was free) and actual sales.
@RBMango My personal takeaway was that this was a game that prioritised graphics over actual playability (like the first game did, but to an ever further degree). My best memory is this was the game championed by the Xbox-gamer Twitter hivemind to prove the value of Game Pass (as this was the only "new" FP title to be released between November 2023 and September 2024 that wasn't a remake). From the little I've played of it, I don't see where that praise is coming from.
Literally nothing in the article suggests it's a "controversial" game, let alone the most. If this is going to be pushing Honkai Star Rail and every other gacha game, then Persona doing it can't be worse.
Their main profit-maker (at least with regards to FIFA) is Ultimate Team, raising the barrier to entry on that for something targeted towards children would be a stupid move (the fact they sell about 20 million copies to begin with also makes it less of a concern).
@GirlVersusGame it's been on deep discounts for the last few weeks, and until last week it hadn't been confirmed whether Switch owners would get "upgrades" (they won't).
Offering a handshake emoji after shafting them with their awful advertising deal (a lot of people weren't even aware the game was on Game Pass, let alone releasing on other platforms, because MS doesn't allow it) and then shadow-dropping their own highly-anticipated remake (not remaster) right on top of it to snuff out any chance of notice (despite high reviews) is certainly an interesting choice.
@PuppetMaster big sale in UK over the weekend, basically selling physically for £20 (as is the case with a lot of the top 10 this week, just cheap sales).
"But when Sony charged $10, it's offered full-bown remasters" is quite simply not true. A lot for the remakes are sold as separate units entirely (Last of Us Part 1, HZD), and the examples you're listing are on par with what Nintendo are offering ($10 for framerate/resolution bump and new features).
You are giving a report by Jez Corden (a notorious liar with very little evidence backing him up both historically and on this claim) way too much credit.
@Lukeded nope, Steam version has no confirmation of the Bomberman side missions, only the Xbox console version and the PC Game Pass/Windows Store version have the Bomberman levels.
Doommomgering about the future of gaming, because one user specifically did something that requires a connection and failed because the servers were temporarily down is a complete joke and I'm shocked this site has resorted to such reports.
@Americansamurai1 the above graph makes no mention ranking by dollar amount, just general sales of games. That would make Helldivers' performance not that unexpected; it was available on PC and PlayStation early in the year, and was priced at half the price of other games.
@Americansamurai1 majority of non-Nintendo games in the top 10 had significant discounts (Amazon were also selling them for >75% for some of the older titles) or were popular already (CoD did have a discoutn, but its always placed highly), Astro Bot in comparison was full price. This list is basically "what were the most popular sale discounts this week?"
@themightyant you've missed his point entirely. The specific genre of "Overwatch-style" gameplay has always been "you're either going to beat Overwatch, or be dead within months" (as we've seen with Paladins, Concord and everything else). It's apparent the clear difference with Rivals is the word "Marvel", meaning that the only thing that has even come remotely close to surpassing Overwatch since 2016 has had to use one of the most popular modern IPs (and we're only a month since launch, so who knows how long it'll last?).
Only bought Phasmaphobia because it was effectively half off with Stars points (the only game I've ever seen where it cost less in Star points than the regional equivalent).
@AFCC After the embarrassment of the Xenoverse Great Apes (to the point they're now only used for Dragon Ball/TP farming), it only makes sense they're out for revenge in this one.
@RagnarLothbrok Considering how long some of the other titles have been delayed, it's just as likely a gust of wind that knocked over a stack of papers caused the delay.
@UltimateOtaku91 I wish they'd prioritise just one of the titles over this comeback-to-the-West parade of titles. Of course, I say that as someone who's been waiting for an Inazuma Eleven title for god knows how long (Editor's Note: 9 years), so I feel my impatience is somewhat justified.
@CielloArc almost guarantee that it'll be a DLC, I mean all but 4 of the characters that are implemented are from Xenoverse (and a lot of the exceptions are either variants or first forms). Plus, I doubt BN are going to release a Dragon Ball 3D arena fighter without putting in their beloved Nuova and Eis, so there's a good chance they'll all be there.
@Blofse Except the model they chose to copy was Overwatch, which did charge for access for its entire life (up until OW2), promising constant updates, new modes, characters and maps, all of which Concord took on as well. The issue is, in the intervening 8 years, the model has changed so significantly that even F2P hero shooters offer all that and more, feature big IPs and crossovers, and still fail to get a footing. Concord, using an outdated support model, uninteresting character designs, and unclear vision as to how to get support, had no chance.
@Kienda the point is, the needle hasn't moved at any point. The rumour itself is barely recognisable from the original (with Tassi and others claiming Sony provided resources/devs to Game Science for their port), and even so has no basis for fact (we're literally at "trust me, bro" as a source). The devs have also claimed there is no exclusivity deal, and even Microsoft themselves have been claiming they've been working with Game Science on the port (which contradicts the rumour entirely).
@KundaliniRising333 it's the exact time of game that if it came out in 2016, it would be called an Overwatch clone. The fact it only started development in 2016 is even worse. Way too late for a viable release when most other clones have died (and Overwatch itself died to be replaced with an inferior version).
@Fiendish-Beaver the rumour has transformed so drastically, that's it no longer accurate to even claim what remains. Something pivoting from a definitive "Sony paid to keep it off Xbox" to a potential "Sony may have provided resources to the team to help develop a PS port" is already grounds to dismiss the rumour, especially as the 2nd comment feels more like grasping at straws.
This is still being denied by the journalists with connections to Game Science, who insist the development issues are valid. Considering that the "memory leak" rumour is being maintained, while the "corporate conspiracy" theory has been reduced to nothing, it's looking like a complete overreaction.
@IamJT people took the BG3 claims very seriously, to the point where Larian themselves had to come out and say "if Microsoft would agree to assist us in this matter, as the issue cannot be overcome without some compromise, we would release on Xbox immediately", such was the abuse over a sneaky exclusive deal (ironically it was leaked that Xbox at one point wanted to make it a day-1 Game Pass exclusive, and would've gotten it for very cheap if they did).
@StrickenBiged 141 in the "base" game (i.e. as in up-to Queen Sigma), the remaining trophies are linked to content updates and such (and anything outside the paid DLC could be grouped in with the above 141). They've just divided the trophies into lists for easy navigation.
@Member_the_game I'm more curious to see what's off-limits than anything else. We already know Activision really can't afford to be Xbox-exclusive (33% of Q1 profits for Xbox this year came from Activision). Zenimax was bought under the (directly-stated) claim that it would be pushing out only Xbox games, but of the 5 major games that have come out for them, only Starfield has yet to come (also somewhat ironic that the first 2 big games to come out after the buyout were PS5 exclusive at launch). Indiana was a game very much announced as a Microsoft exclusive (Phil himself said as recently as February that it was the case), yet that is now not the case. Considering the rumours with weight behind them also have big titles coming (Forza, Halo MCC, Flight Simulator), it's going to be interesting to see if the line's ever going to be drawn.
This reads and feels like a hit piece in response to other news outlets claiming Concord was underwhelming. Especially considering those same outlets are praising Rivals.
