Fair play to Ubisoft, they get a lot of stick from players for a lot of things, and rightfully so TBH. But their commitment to patching their older games to 60fps on PS5 puts most companies to shame. Yes, I'm talking about you From Software and Rockstar. I think we as customers need to be more vocal in praising the behaviour we want to see.
Allow other retailers to sell digital games so there is real competition. That is the fundamental thing that needs to happen. Everything else is window dressing. Of course ending physical sales and preventing retailers from selling digital PSN games was intended to remove precisely this competition. Hopefully Sony loses all their current court cases over this lack of competition and are forced to allow it, I can't see them doing it voluntarily.
I notice that absolutely nowhere in neither the base nor the ultimate edition does it confirm that GTA online 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) is included. They are careful to call it a single player game, in fact. When they announce that the online game is a separate purchase people are going to lose their minds.
That's an insane price for a series S xbox but Sony will be raising their prices again as well before too long. Probably before the end of the year, maybe even sooner. I'm glad I got my Pro and disc drive before the last price hike (£700 for both minus £200 from flogging my base PS5 to Cex.) it's looking increasingly like a shrewd investment. 😬
'Improving service proposition' will simply mean locking more features that used to be free behind the PS+ paywall.
I'm planning to let my essential subscription lapse before November and see what deals are available around Black Friday. If there's nothing good enough then PS+ is going to be relegated to the same staus as Netflix/Disney+ etc, i.e. I will subscribe for the occasional month when there's something I want to play online on console rather than PC.
Mainly it's not the cost itself, it's the feeling of being ripped off by being forced to pay for something that used to be free.
I think I'll wait to see if it's any good first. And also what the performance is like on PS5 pro. All the people who made the previous games great have left the company years ago, so the people designing the missions etc will have been the same people who've been making the 'content' for GTA online the last few years. I'm still hoping it'll be up to the same standard as the GTA5 single player campaign was and if it is I'll be there day one, as I have been for every GTA since Vice City. But I'm certainly not going to be pre-ordering 6 months in advance 😂
It should have been a free upgrade all along, to be fair. The enhanced version on PC was a free patch after all. Of course I paid the £8.74 for the PS5 'version' at the time because they made it a time-limited offer and the FOMO got to me.🙄
I didn't like it when it was free for a weekend so why would I like it any more when it's free for a week? The only thing that might tempt me to give it another go would be the PvE mode but that's not in it yet.
It's worth reminding everyone that Sony is not actually providing you with any real service with PS Plus Essential other than the privilege of using your own Internet connection to play online and being thrown a bone in the form of a few older, AA trash games (if you're lucky) as a sweetener. You're not paying for servers, it's all P2P connection which is free on PC, even on the same games, such as Helldivers 2. They have no reason to raise prices other than that they can and we'll pay it.
@THEBrew It's a hacking term. Rather than actually hacking into a account you simply contact customer services and convince them you are the real owner of the account and get them to give you access. Customer services are often the weakest point in cybersecurity which is why they shouldn't be given the system permissions to bypass 2FA etc. It doesn't have anything to do with socio-politics 👍
I've compared the different versions up for pre-order and I've decided to go for the one which will be available 6 months after release for half the price and with most of the bugs fixed. Of course, that depends on whether or not Ubisoft can restrain themselves from ruining it with microtransactions.
If I was going to get this it'd be on PC to play the Star Wars Genesis mod. I don't have any interest in the base game at all, and I'm a massive Bethesda fan, jank and all.
It's done about as well as could be expected for a niche genre such as extraction shooters (Arc Raiders is an outlier). Will that be enough for Sony? 🤔
Fortunately, I have managed to restrain myself from making a sarcastic comment about Sony having to actually make some single player games before worrying about whether or not to port them to PC. Phew.
@themightyant Most games have a 60fps option now, true. The point is that you don't have to go back to the PS4 to find examples of 30fps locked games. And certainly on my PS4 pro a lot of games could run at (mostly)60 fps. I was just disagreeing with the articles premise that going back to play games on the PS4 was a hugely inferior experience.
The PS5 still has it's share of creaky 30fps games even now. I think with the current cost of living situation people are just not that enthusiastic about having to save up £700 to £800 (being realistic) for a new console right now, so if that expense can be kicked a few years down the road so much the better.
You know a game has sold well when they just flat out tell you the numbers rather than talking about 'players who have engaged with the game' or some other nonsense 😂
I keep seeing people saying this game wasn't given a chance and this baffles me. People absolutely gave this game a chance. Thanks to the game awards exposure it got nearly 100k concurrent players on Steam at launch. Virtually all of whom after playing it said, 'nope' and went back to what they were playing before. If the game was fun they'd have stuck around. That's it, it's not complicated.
If they got rid of the boring, pointless reinforcing and gearing stages and the bland characters and replaced them with proper classes and increased the player count to 12v12 or higher then the siege/raid gameplay could be fun. As it stands even if I could be ar*ed to play the game I wouldn't be interested in buying cosmetic dlc for the completely uninteresting characters. Keeping this game secret and not getting feedback from players was a huge mistake.
Overwhelmingly negative on Steam. I skimmed the player reviews and everyone is saying the maps are too big for 3v3. I don't think this is going to win anyone over.
Dawnless Days (Lord of the Rings) mod for Total War Atilla on pc which finally released this week. On PS5 I plan to spend some time exploring Hubris and Red Matter 2 on PSVR2.
I'm pretty sure it'll be Creative Assembly (owned by SEGA) announcing the new Total War game, probably Warhammer 40k. As with Medieval 3 it may be coming to consoles, too.
It's interesting that none of the sequels mentioned have sold as well as the first games. You can partly explain Horizon Forbidden West's drop-off in sales by it being on PS+ Extra for a time, but the general pattern seems to be less enthusiasm from players. None of them have sold badly, obviously but I'm sure Sony will have noticed.
Fairly obviously they don't want people to pick up a cheap second-hand disc copy and then be eligible for the cheap upgrade path. But how many people would actually do that? It doesn't seem worth it to exclude and upset a load of your loyal fans for the sake of a few 'lost' sales.
I finally picked up a PSVR2 in the sale now it's come down to a price I'm more comfortable with. I also picked up the PC adapter which opens up a whole load more games on PCVR, like Half-Life Alyx, Fallout 4 VR and all the UEVR games etc., which I think makes the PSVR2 have a huge amount of value for it's price point.
This was one of the games I bought together with my ps1 console. After playing the arcade machine in the student union bar I was blown away by the perfect conversion to a home console. It remains my favourite fighting game to this day. Not to mention all the alternative costumes and extra characters (and Tekken Ball!) which could be unlocked just by playing the game with zero microtransactions.
We honestly didn't know how good we had it.
I loved the PSVR. I bought a PS5 largely because I wanted the PSVR2 I have never bought a PSVR2 because nothing that released gave me a reason to spend the money for one.
Gave up waiting for a PS5 60fps patch and bought it on PC instead where I can play it at 120+fps at higher resolution. The fact they're going to sell this as a 'new' game rather than just release a patch to let it use the extra power from the PS5 is frankly disgusting.
Wow, so a TV adaptation of a game which was very divisive and sold less than its predecessor is.....very divisive and is watched by fewer people than the first series. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you 😮
@xDD90x No, you're right. They're probably using the PC version as the basis for the remaster. I'm mostly struggling to find a rationale for not releasing it on PS5. I don't think that Microsoft would bother wasting money for an exclusivity deal on a game this old, especially when they're releasing their games on Playstation now anyway. So I would assume some technical reason, but it just seems strange.
A remaster of an Xbox 360 game is a whole different beast to a remaster of a PS3 game, which would have to be completely remade. Hopefully that's the reason and it'll follow shortly after.
Imagine that. A great game with meaningful updates sold at a reasonable price with a fair monetization model and it's a success. Makes you wonder how developers keep failing, doesn't it? 🤔
Peak video game voice acting is found in Resident 'Jill Sandwich' Evil and I won't be convinced otherwise. If it can be done better, quicker and more cheaply with A.I. then why not?
6 characters 3 maps 1 game mode All for a 'premium price' (Whatever that turns out to be) This can't be it, can it? Surely Sony/Bungie have something else up their sleeve?
For me the RRP of games and the amount I will actually pay for them are completely unconnected. They can try to charge £80 if they like, I'm no more likely to pay that than I pay £70 now. I will continue to pay around £20 for fully patched and complete games 1 to 2 years after release. It's not like my backlog is getting any smaller in the meantime. Once I've finished my current play-through of Dragon Age: Origins I'll be starting Death Stranding Directors Cut which I bought last week for £13 😁
