There's No Stopping Multiplayer Sensation ARC Raiders, Reaches 14 Million Copies Sold 1

ARC Raiders continues its ascent, with new figures from Nexon's earnings report highlighting just how big the multiplayer shooter has become.

According to the report, the sci-fi extraction shooter has now reached 14 million units sold to date. A figure of 12.4 million was reported in mid-January, meaning it's sold about another 1.6 million in the past month.

Last month, the game saw its highest-ever concurrent users figure at 960,000, and the game has "approximately six million weekly active users sustained to date". In other words, it has some seriously impressive retention rates.

It's demonstrable proof that live service games can flourish and find a sizeable audience, which is why Sony has been pushing into the space, albeit to varying degrees of success.

Helldivers 2 is its best performer so far, and that success will have galvanised the platform holder's resolve to do it again.

However, while games like ARC Raiders and Helldivers 2 have made it work, the competition is so fierce that some high-profile efforts fall completely flat. Concord is infamous for just how poorly it landed, but a more recent example is Highguard, which has failed to resonate strongly enough, resulting in most of the development team being laid off.

It feels like it's feast or famine. ARC Raiders is one of the lucky ones, and it seems like it'll continue to be popular for quite some time, so long as Embark Studios is able to keep updating the game with meaningful new content.
