Gamers are ready for $70? Perhaps some. Not everyone has a disposable income, so a $70 + sales tax will add up very fast if there are 8-10 games you want. There are always cheapskates like me that waits for the bargain bin, though!
@vapidwolf Make it a thing? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I just put it because I'm a ninja and I'm displaying my approval/disapproval for things.
I’m glad people are happy for this, but I wonder how much they are gonna chop the game up? Makes me wonder if they are going to copy fighting game business models. I don’t want to have paid close to $300 by the end of this. I guess I’ll wait a few years and get the “ultimate” edition or whatever. I hope everyone enjoys.
I don’t have enough time to commit to being competitive online, so I stick to single player and just fart around. Only fighting games I’m really good at are Soul Calibur, Soul Blade, and SF3 3rd strike. I’m notoriously bad at guilty gear, but I love the art and music. It’s a beautiful looking game.
@NEStalgia I’m glad you enjoyed it so much. When I tried it I got sick of it because it had a distinct lack of feedback, so I just felt like I was getting hit from all directions all the time.
Something I love about classic Doom over the newer ones is that if you want to play aggressive, you can. But if you want to be more cautious, you can do that too and the game doesn’t punish you. New Doom felt like it punishes cautious tactics, so I just moved on from it.
@YeoSprings Isn't it dependent on the performance of the company? It doesn't sound right that a big company buys a little company, then just arbitrarily closes it. Seems like there might be other factors to consider, just throwing that out there.
@-Juice- "Doom Eternal was a masterpiece of intuitive gameplay focused design." Whaaaat did I just read?? lol
Would anybody say that about COD? Or any other FPS game, for that matter? I understand there are differing qualities of FPS games, and Doom Eternal is very well received but...masterpiece of intuitive gameplay focused design?
Bro, please explain what the heck you are getting at. How is Doom Eternal THAT good?
@Lorcansface Yeah, this place tends to be more helpful than say, Kotaku or something. There are a couple people that feel the need to troll, but they are few and far between. Welcome aboard!
I’ve never heard of this game or developer, but I looks interesting. Don’t know how I missed this one, then again there are dozens of releases weekly so it’s a lot to keep track of it all
@Divergent95 First off, it's okay to not like every single mainstream game. I wouldn't say you are in a minority. Heck, if you look at the Steam stats for achievements, you will see that only about 25% of people actually complete the game. It's not for everybody.
Second, the story in Dark Souls purposefully got put in the background, due in part to the fact that it was released when narrative heavy games with LOTS of handholding were ever-present. To make their game stand out, From did the opposite of what every big, AAA game was doing at the time. No hand holding, next to no story at all, in fact they hide it in item descriptions.
For me, it's perfect. The LAST thing I enjoy in a game is a freaking popup telling me how to do something, especially if it's something that I already know how to do. I also greatly dislike the way most games tell their stories, I'm not interested in such shallow experiences.
Dark Souls made me feel like I was playing Castlevania 2 again. For me, that was all I needed. An obtuse game, set in a strange world with strange rules, that trusts the player to find things on their own and make their own mistakes as they explore.
It's certainly not a masterclass in design, it has TONS of flaws, from enemy AI and a world that just feels like it was built half-hazardly on top of itself. But it does SO MUCH right, in terms of gameplay, mechanics, design philosophy, etc.
I'll wait for the inevitable "ultimate edition" or whatever Engrish they'll call it. The artwork looks astounding, though. It'll be worth the extra wait time.
@TrueAssassin86x I know for a fact that most games are fantasy-based nonsense, but AC games tend to have pretty heavy political themes, which is fine because they are emulating a time period.
I don't think a corporation funding under-privileged groups is a political thing. I can see why people might say it is, but I think it's largely a "look at us, we are doing a good thing for the community," thing. Is it for good PR, or are they sincere? Only the people that initiated the funding know for sure. I like to hope they are sincere, but even if they are doing it just for good press, it's still helping others, in the end.
Now in AC, the political aspects certainly added to the game, but I can understand when certain games contain blatant political messages that don't fit the nature of said game.
I can't wait until I hit retirement, hopefully the game is done by then. I think this is probably a good decision, it can be tough when there are "too many head chefs" in the kitchen.
@solocapers I directly answered your question in post 59. Identity politics go far beyond who is black or white. There are tons of other people you are excluding by that mindset.
@Richnj It heavily excludes them from being political. Politics is reality-based, games are fantasy-based. Some try to depict reality, those games may have a political message. Many do not, by their own merit. You can ADD your own spin to it, doesn't make it true or right. Kinda cute to look at Mario framed in that perspective, but it's just not the truth.
@solocapers It's two examples of many, can't you see past that? I also spoke about things outside of a single country. These are world issues, not "west" issues. I started with 2 examples in the hopes that people like you would go searching for more, unless you are happy believing the lies you believe, right now. I never said there was "no discrimination." Stop being silly.
Please spare me your ire.
And please get an icon, it's like commenting with your pants down!
@Playstation Barack Obama probably disagrees with you, as does the CEO of Lowes. There are other examples, you should look into that. All those top execs at Sony Japan are probably not white, they are Japanese. I could go on, but you really should do the search yourself, to gain a better understanding of the world, at large.
@Richnj You're reading into that waaaaay too much. There's literally no depiction of class, it's literally run right, step on goombas and pick up coins. It's a fantasy. I said people can make a game and set aside POLITICAL beliefs, not ALL beliefs. Difference.
@Richnj I disagree, in many cases people are able to separate their political beliefs from making a video game. I highly doubt that the creators of super Mario were lacing their beliefs into a game where you run right and touch a flag pole.
