One of the cooler announcements at today’s Xbox Showcase was Magicians: The Devil’s Deal, an awkwardly named first-person shooter that looks like a blend of BioShock and Houdini.
Looking at the trailer, the game appears to swap out guns and grenades for card tricks, allowing you to affect the world in a variety of interesting ways.
Unsurprisingly, the title’s being developed by Australian studio Uppercut Games, who yes, is made up of ex-BioShock devs. It most recently worked on Submerged: Hidden Depths, but this looks like a huge change in tone and production values.

This is one of the games from Microsoft’s show that really caught my eye, and I’m looking forward to shuffling through it myself when it launches in 2027, with Focus Entertainment on publishing duties.

I saw the name and thought "Magic Ian? What a stupid name." Then I realised it was Magician and felt like an idiot.
@BentIeyma SAME 😭😭
Typo in the header, 'takes'
Yeah, outside of Spyro this was about the only game in the showcase that caught my interest somewhat. It did gave me Bioshock vibes and reading about the devs right now in this article it makes sense. I'm keeping an eye on this.
Really like the look of this!
I thought this was really cool. Scratching that same itch as Amsterdam 1666.
Ex Bioshock devs? I was watching it thinking this must be where all the people that worked on Dishonored went instead of working on Redfall
@TheDarts came here just to post the same.
This looks really cool, definitely hit me with Bioshock vibes, too, but I was too busy being impressed to notice for the first 10 seconds of gameplay. Might be a day one for this one.
Looks interesting.
