Open-world doesn't always mean the game will be great. In fact, JRPG works well if they're not fully open-world, but rather, with large open areas. Case in point, DQ11, Ni No Kuni and Xenoblade
I'm all for this and will definitely get Visions of Mana once released.
I"m so excited for this. I was worried that this was going to be a gacha mobile game but I'm glad it's a proper JRPG. I grew up with Legend of Mana and while it's not the best in the series, it's the Mana game I remember fondly and replay countless of times. I hope I get to enjoy this just as much as LoM
I love Kojima for MGS, ZoE and Death Stranding but man those memes are just funny.
At the end of the day, I just think Geoff don't want a repeat of Judge's speech last year and I'm sure it's not his intention to disrespect the winners
This year had been an amazing year for games in general. Regardless of which game won, I think we had plenty for 2023. I'm just happy that there's a lot of great games for everyone to choose from for this year
Gotta thank Rise for finally getting into the MH games so I can look forward to this as well.
Looks like Capcom will be skipping Switch and that's to be expected. Nintendo might want to announce their next gen console if they want that new MH sugar
Early 2024 is already packed. P3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy Relink, FFVII Rebirth and now Rise of the Ronin. My wallet is already crying and my backlog is not looking good lol
I think people are forgetting that Sony is more than just PlayStation. I mean sure, Sony Pictures have marketed many PS related franchises but this one has no impact to the brand
lmao, never really understood the obsession with the puddles in this game. Well good on Insomniac for making improvements on the puddles just to shut twitter I guess
I already have a PS5 so there's no reason for me to get this new model but even if I still don't own one, I'd still get the Fat model. Not that I hate the slimmer design, I just have a history of owning the OG PS console designs since the PS1 era
@Darklaw Not as restricted as FFXV lol. Traversal in Elden Ring allows you to jump/climb cliffs fairly easily (though you could die in most cases if you jump off on the wrong cliff lol), same with BoTW, ToTK, Pokemon SV, Genshin Impact, AC Odyssey, AC Valhalla. pretty much most open-world games with similar settings. FFXV's open world just feels limited due to lack of how you can traverse its world despite having a large map. The only limitations in those games I mentioned are the boundaries at the end of their maps.
Very unlikely but whoever becomes the next CEO, please fix your Japanese market and try to bring back Japan Studios if you can. I'm still mad for it being shut down. I still want a new Gravity Rush game, possible sequel to Blooodborne and a new Ape Escape game
I enjoyed Advent Children, especially the director's cut version (flaws and all). That said, this is a bit worrying considering certain characters' fate will remain the same when the remake trilogy ends lol
@Darklaw We're just talking video games here, lol. Obviously I'm not gonna go to places where I shouldn't be IRL. BotW/ToTK lets you explore almost anywhere with how you can traverse vertically. Any recent Assassins' Creed game, Genshin, even Pokémon SV lets you do it. Point being, with how big the map of FFXV, the traversal really feels restrictive in terms of exploration compared to most open-world games
Really excited for this but I have concerns considering most open-world games being empty. This was my problem with FFXV's map being large and all but it feels so empty and exploration is very limited before you hit a wall. Though FF7 Rebirth's map looks more traversable compared to FFXV (and you can even swim). I really hope there's something more to explore but otherwise, I'm excited for this just for the fact that it's FF7
While I don't mind having one, Sekiro was one of those games that feels complete and doesn't need a DLC. Really challenging but very fulfilling and one of Fromsofware's best game created
Can't blame those who are turned off by these kind of game's gacha mechanics. My personal experience with Genshin is that it least it feels the least scummy when it comes to gacha. You can play the game without paying for anything and still be fine (sure you can pull every now every now and then with their free Primogems that you can collect from time to time). Though this is one of those live-service games that you had to be there from the start or otherwise, you'd be overwhelmed by the story contents and events.
Haven't watched the full trailer yet since I want to go blindly on this game (want to experience it as if it was my first time playing P3 like I did back in the PS2 era). Not sure if I'm getting this day one since my priority is still FF7 Rebirth but I'll definitely get this given the time and budget
Always keep your expectations low. At least after this, it will be the Nintendo Direct so there's something to look forward to in case this SoP doesn't deliver (which I expect will be the case for most of us)
EDIT: nvm, this one's after Nintendo Direct. Still, there's something to be hyped about even if this one fails
Played the game from start to finish and the framerate dip wasn't that big deal for me. While I prefer smoother framerates nowadays, the dip in framerate for this game wasn't all that bad and most of the time, barely noticeable.
Then again, I guess I'm just used to 30fps and some framerate dipping considering I also play on Switch and some older consoles. Also Bloodborne in 30fps still looks great and cinematic imo.
As great as these game releases are, my wallet is not going to be happy. Better save up this early now (Armored Core 6 is the only remaining game this year I'm willing to get day 1 anyway)
Little Nightmares 3 was a welcoming surprise. Granblue Fantasy Relink finally getting a release date. Was expecting ZZZ to have a PS5 announcement (but I feel it's only a matter of time) and was really hoping to get an actual release date for Honkai Star Rail. Crimon Desert looks interesting but still needs some PS5 details
Both games are amazing and while GI did took some inspiration from BoTW, the overall gameplay experience differs from each other.
BoTW is an open-world game that has more sense of freedom and adventure whereas GI is more about combat and story progression for every region you visit (and gatcha mechanics, sure)
As stated by others, BoTW also took inspiration from other open-world so I don't see what's wrong with GI taking some inspirations from it. Meanwhile, Souls game have been copied dozens of times and nobody is batting an eye ( not that there's anything wrong with it. Plus, Nioh is awesome)
Not surprised about the results. As I've said in that poll, Clive deserves it since he's a great character and more than just your broodish type.
Though, my money still went to Zidane for his charisma and influence on others.
As for Tidus and Vaan, yeah, technically, it's not their journey but the game is told in their perspective. Yuna and Ashe are the supposed main protagonist. The only difference is that Tidus has some relevance to the plot of FFX while Vaan serves only as the player's perspective on what's happening in FFXII's story (but that's not to say that he hasn't grown as a character)
I have lots and lots of catching up to do, I barely even gotten to the first two expansion but in a way, this is good news for me. More time to play the trial!
Woah, look at Clive soaring high. He deserves it! Cloud is to be expected. I want to vote for him but I think he's well beloved enough so I gave it to Zidane. Also, that 1% who voted for Vaan, I just want to let you know, you have my support. 👍
I know Terra is the 1st character we play in VI but really, anyone in the game can be considered as a main character. The game lets you choose who you want to be the main character.
Also, Yuna is technically the main character in FFX and not Tidus.
That aside, I say Zidane got my vote and is my personal favorite next to Cloud. He's such a charming and optimistic character to the point that he has an effect to those around him and in return, they helped him in his dark moment.
Cloud is also my favorite because of his complex personality. I've come to love Clive as well. Someone who was hell bent in revenge to someone who wanted to save the world. He's far from the broodish archtype protagonist.
@ApostateMage I don't care what others say about Vaan but I really like him. He doesn't contribute much in terms of story but that's not to say that he hasn't grown as a character.

Re: Poll: What's Your Most Anticipated PS5 Game of 2024?
1. FF7 Rebirth
2. Grandblue Fantasy Relink
3. Persona 3 Reload
4. Rise of the Ronin
5. Visions of Mana
Also, Tekken 8, Eiyuuden chronicles, Alone in the Dark, Blue Protocol and Unicorn overlord
This year is for us JRPG lovers and I'm so excited.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Writer Warns Against Weird Fan Requests to 'Kill' Certain Characters
Really sucks that said "fans" would resort to something as low as threatening writers if they don't get what they wanted.
Writers are free to tell the story however they wanted to. Fans shouldn't have control over how the events will go.
It's one thing to take criticism into consideration but it's another once devs allow fans to dictate how the story should go

Re: PS5 Slim Officially Unveiled, Attachable Disc Drive, Launches November
A bit misleading disclaimer having a stand sold separately but I guess it does comes with one Oob
Edit: nvm, it's a vertical stand only but not horizontal as mentioned
Anyway, I'd probably get this model if I don't have one yet. I do like the desin ngl

@ApostateMage That scene between him and Ashe is one of the best moments in XII as it really shows you how much Vaan has grown at that point.
@ShogunRok well, it IS his "story" as Tidus would put it so I'm giving him a pass on that.
