You guys forgot digimon time stranger cmon 😭😭 the disrespect is crazy
Such a crazy good list of games, plus the digimon game which looks a huge step up in quality compared to the previous titles.
Where is Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots? My friend told me it was in the SoP 🤨
Haters out in droves after this SoP (mostly on social media), I really don't understand what Sony can do, to please these people...
So... much... gaming goodness... can't keep up!
You forgot Bloodstained. I loved the original. I backed the PS4, Vita and Wii U copies and got the PS4, Switch and Steam copies! Since then I have the platinum trophy on PS4, all the achievements on PC, I 100%ed the awful Switch version and bought the game again on Xbox and got all the achievements again. Needless to say I loved the original and look forward to the sequel.
Just got the Silent Hill F Wishlist notification 🙌🏻 didn’t see that coming nice time of year!
Guess they're saving god of war for Friday. Super excited for lumines.
@belmont I've backed bloodstained as well. Was a great game.
@Oram77 pretty easy, show some first party bangers. There is nothing besides ghosts
Is that it? Pretty poor honestly apart from the new silent hill game and James bond maybe 🤷🏾♀️
A new Bloodstained on top of everything else?! I can't handle this
Premium still not worth it.
Really we going down the resi route now?
It be fine if we hadn't got 2 Stella remakes of those games already and they both out shine the originals.
Capcom the masters of how to do a true remake of a game.
I'll keep waiting i guess.
I've bought final fantasy tactics every time it released. It's been one of my comfort games my entire life and I cannot stress enough how happy this makes me
@Oram77 show some 1st part games would be a start
@Dan12836666 @Shad361 I mean, if they aren't ready to show then they aren't ready to show... you knew this coming into the SoP, so it was never going to meet your expectations 🤷♂️
@Oram77 Plus aren't people forgetting that Marvel Tokon is a 1st party game?
There seem to be a couple of console exclusives here, some are obvious like GoY, Marvel Tokon and the PSVR2 titles. But some may be less obvious like Nioh 3, Sword of the Sea, Baby Steps, Sea of Remnants, Cairn and Hirogami (I could be wrong about some of these, though).
Seems like bit of a missed opportunity. You’d think Sony would at least make a little note of it or put something like “Playstation exclusive” in the corner of the screen at the end of each trailer or something. Other platformholders would be all over that opportunity.
I mean, if we could only know for sure if Nioh 3 is exclusive, i’m sure that alone would make some people view this SoP in a whole different manner.
Oh, and where was that God of War metroidvania game?! Damn, these leakers got me again. Maybe at SGF 🤞🏼
@Oram77 no I was disappointed I mean it was a good state of play if I wasn't expecting 1st party games to be honest very good just expected more 1st party not the end of the world though there's a lot I'm interested in there
Wait this announcement lineup goes insane actually PlayStation can still have games with actual Sauce????????
@Oram77 it’s been quite some time, way before this show.
@AdamNovice Good game but it’s developed by arcsys and on pc day 1.
@Shad361 And Sony XDev, plus been on PC isn't that big of a deal.
This was a great SoP, a little disappointed about the BIG Sony studios being missing yet again but the fast announcements and FINALLY so many Japanese games with Sony backing again, just like the good old days made the disappointment melt away real quick.
8/10 for sure! So much variety and very few games I don’t care for.
@Oram77 Nothing can satisfy those people. They live only to hate and complaining all day long.
Not the best ever, but it was decent, with a few interesting looking titles.
007, Nioh 3, Romeo is a dead man (providing its a soulslike), and MK collection all took my interest. Pragmata may be good but Im not sure yet.
For the discerning gamer who prefers to own rather than flush money away leasing digital code, FF Tactics is up on the North American SquareEnix store. There’s an über expensive collectors edition with game, the same collectors edition…but without the game for slightly cheaper (wtf), and the standard version on disc for $49.99.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. People are way too harsh on SOPs. This one was packed with really great stuff for a variety of tastes. That's all one can really ask for.
I mean MGO is actually alive! I had completely given up hope of ever seeing MGO come back again. I was already excited for Delta but that just shot it up big time on my must play list. I loved MGO back in the day!
If MGO is anyway as good as MGO for MGS3/MGS4 my backlog is taking a long sabbatical. Bloodstained is a day 1. On the pessimistic side, if we don't see wolverine on Friday that games in trouble.
The Bond game looks slightly interesting, nothing else I find particularly interesting.
This was overall an amazing State Of Play
Best State of Play in a long, long time if you ask me. So many things in excited for in there. Marvel Tokon being my personal highlight - a genuine “WAIT WHAT” moment and I absolutely cannot wait to play it. Day one for sure and I will buy the highest priced version of it. Bravo Sony!
One of the best SoP presentations ever. I'm satisfied.
Some good stuff in there for sure.
Show was real good especially that marvel fighterz... This list got summin for everyone who gonna complain
The fact we got a Karen simulator is the chefs kiss of all of this, but other than a couple of bits it was completely underwhelming.
Not much for me there, but I am happy that everybody else here is excited!
Feels like the OS5 is finally a little alive reading some comments here. Which is dope.
Well yesterday I didn’t know there was a Nioh 3 and today I do so consider me a very happy bunny.
For me this was a disappointment, nothing that was announced appeals to me or my wife. We thought it was a snooze fest.
@WolfyTn I was looking out for that too.
Rest of it is a bit 'meh'.
3rd party of play
Amazing state of play. Silent Hill f actually looks like Neobards made a good game. Nioh 3 is going to be incredible. More Resi goodness for Premium users. More Igavania. Easy 8.9/10
Still waiting on Bloodborne remastered tho. Easily 10 million copies sold if they released it.
Pragmata, SHF, Bond and og RE3 coming to Plus were highlights for me.
No 1st party is unbeliavable! God knows what happened to Wolverine. Also GoY bit was hilarious in a bad way.
Nioh 3 and 007 first light was games of the show. Word up son
I think from a standpoint of these are the games coming to the PlayStation, then yes, this was a decent showcase. However, this may as well have been a third-party showcase because there were very, very few actual PlayStation first-party games on show here. If you view it as a State of PlayStation then you would have to admit that it is in fact in a bit of a state!
Sony's push into Live Service content has allowed the well of first-party content to run dry. And to cap it off, Sony have then cancelled the vast, vast majority of those Live Service games too. Thus, even if Sony switched emphasis once again to non-Live Service games a couple of years ago, with games now taking 5-7 years to make, it is still going to be 3 or 4 years before we see the regular first-party drops that we were used to during the PS3 and PS4 eras.
Tis a bit of a sad state of affairs, truth be told, though at least I think we will be back on track (more or less) when the PS6 releases...
While, yes, it does seem that this was a third party showcase, that’s fine. We’re not getting many third party showcases this year, as they’re saving their money on making games. Let Sony do the PR!
I’m so excited about a lot here: Bloodstained, Ninja Gaiden, Sword of the Sea, Silent Hill F, Metal Gear, Tactics, and, most of all, Pragmata. This is the first Sony presentation since perhaps their first showcase that I was so happy with what was shown off.
@Fiendish-Beaver Stop pushing this fake narrative about first party games, it’s complete rubbish. How many games do you think Sony released in the first 4 years of the PS4 and PS3? Go back and list them and it will be a lot smaller than you think.
How many games does a big publisher release these days? How many games a year does Ubisoft released? Rockstar releases a game every 6-7 years.
Sony has release dates for 4 games in the next 4 months(2 GOTY contender level games) and next year there is confirmed already to be Saros, the Marvel Fighting Game and Wolverine.
Imagine trying to push the idea that’s a weak effort. Last year they released the GOTY and the biggest new multiplayer/ongoing game.
We already know Sony are not going to just drop info on every single game they’re working on, even if they’re 5 years away. Microsoft tried that approach and there’s still games from their Xbox Series X/S reveal show that aren’t even released yet.
Sony released around 80 first-party games on the PS3, @ChrisDeku. They were of varying scales, but all first party, how many of them released within the first 5 years, I don't know, but if you average that over the 7 years that's roughly 11 games a year.
There have been around 30 exclusive games thus far in the first nigh on 5 years of the PS5, but not all them have been first-party, and a fair few of them have either been PS5 upgrades (4 games), or a remaster (8 games). Oh, and I include Concord and All Stars in that 30. There have been 18 new Sony games since the PS5 came out, and I include each iteration of MLB The Show, which accounts for 5 of the games. Regardless, with around 30 games, Sony are currently averaging 6 games a year, which by my reckoning means they are putting out about half as much as they used to.
That list includes:
New Games
Astro Bot
Firewall Ultra
God of War: Ragnarök
Gran Turismo 7
Helldivers 2
Horizon Forbidden West
Lego Horizon Adventures
Spiderman 2
Spiderman: Miles Morales (an expansion really)
MLB: The Show x 5
Nioh 2
Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart
Returnal
Ruse if the Ronin
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Re-releases
Death Stranding Director's Cut
Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut
The Nioh Collection
Uncharted Collection
Remasters
Days Gone
Demon Souls
Horizon Zero Dawn
Spiderman: Remastered
The Last of Us Part 1
The Last of Us Part 2
Until Dawn
Cancelled:
Concord
Destruction AllStars
Thus, you can be a defensive as you like over Sony's output, that is your right, but they are not providing the same sort of games, nor the at the same cadence as they used to.
Yes, they release some absolute bangers, but many of the games we enjoy as exclusive are not actually made by Sony, but published by them having been bought as exclusives...
My Wishlist just extended well into 2026. What I need from these, they did their job.
@Fiendish-Beaver List those PS3 games then, I'm sure only about 15-20 real games got released over the whole gen when you're not including 10 Songstar games and games Sony co-published in a single territory which was a large number of games because the publishing landscape was very different when it was 100% physical.
@Fiendish-Beaver Will you say the same about Microsofts showcase which will now be 90% games coming to playstation since they are now multiplatform. It doesn't matter if they are first, second or third party Sony will still have shown more games that won't be coming to other consoles.
I wasn't talking about exclusives, @UltimateOtaku91, as you will see if you re-read my comments. I was talking about output, and indeed, what that output consisted of.
Microsoft are now basically a fully third-party publisher with a side-line in consoles (which they have little regard for now). I expect pretty much every game they show at their showcase to also have the PlayStation logo on it.
Regardless, that was not the point of what I was saying. What I was saying is that Sony's output is about half what it was during the PS3 era, and that most of that output has not actually been original / new games. I didn't mention Microsoft or Xbox, However, seems as you bring them up (for whatever reason) what I would say is that I expect 90% of what Microsoft show at their showcase to consist of new games, not remasters or re-releases. I also expect to see Microsoft release far more games that Sony, albeit that they do obviously have more studios, but less of a tendency to work with outside studios so in that respect it's half a dozen of one, and six of the other...
@LogicStrikesAgain I expect Sword of the Sea will make it to other platforms eventually, just as other Giant Squid games did. Same with Lumines Arise, seeing that Tetris Effect was later ported to Xbox and Switch.
I'm looking forward to playing these 7 games, will buy them during a big sale in a few years.
2025
FBC: Firebreak (Control spinoff) - June 17
Digimon Story: Time Stranger - October 3rd
TBA 2026
007: First Light (James Bond)
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
Pragmata (Capcom Sci-Fi/Space Robot game)
Romeo is a Dead Man (Suda51/Grasshopper)
Sea of Remnants (Anime Pirate RPG)
@Fiendish-Beaver You can’t really compare their output now to what it was 15-20 years ago, that was two console generations ago. Game development has changed a lot since then, especially the time it takes to develop AAA games.
A better comparion would be how Sony’s outpot compares to the output of other publishers today, especially those with a similar number of studios. For example Xbox has double the studios of Sony, so naturally, we can expect more from them.
There’s also a few caveats to your comparison, you compare a full generation to one that is still ongoing. It would then be fairer to include announced games like Ghost of Yotei, Wolverine and Intergalactic and others to the list.
Also i noticed you didnt include titles like Stellar Blade and Death Stranding 2.
However, i’m sure, of those 80 first party titles in the PS3 era you mentioned. Many of them were also developed by external studios, so if those count, these should as well.
If we compare output to other publishers of today, they are doing just fine, in my opinion.
While i agree that their cadence isnt the same as back then, i also think its not a fair comparison overall
