While the Metroidvania-inspired God of War game that had been strongly rumoured prior to the show didn’t appear during State of Play, we did at least get something similar: Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement.

The successor to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will launch in 2026, and will put you in control of two characters: Leonard, a young Black Wolves apprentice, and Alexander, a knight and the last survivor of White Stags.

505 Games’ Senior Community Manager Jason Ryan explained on the PS Blog: “One will be under your direct control, while your companion assists in combat. You’re able to switch between the two at the press of a button.

“This new two-hero style of gameplay is a core element of The Scarlet Engagement. Mastering the system will be critical to Leo and Alex’s success.”

The game’s due out in 2026, and of course, the backdrop of the Ethereal Castle will be the real character here.

“In addition to uncovering useful items and resources, you’ll encounter a cast of fascinating characters that are part of the lore of Bloodstained. From honourable allies to deadly enemies, each interaction has been fully scripted and recorded with voice-overs in both English and Japanese,” Ryan added.

This game looks really, really good – a fascinating evolution of the original Bloodstained, with Castlevania veteran Koji Igarashi producing yet again. It’s due out in 2026.
