James Bond is looking particularly fresh faced in Hitman developer IO Interactive’s highly anticipated take on the franchise, 007 First Light. The character is just 26-years-old, taking him all the way back to his origins.
The game starts with the suave protagonist working in the Navy, before an “audacious act of bravery propels him on MI6’s most challenging training program”.
“This training coupled with his natural instinct, wits, and heart will see him grow into a fully-fledged spy,” says Senior Communications Manager Yann Roskell.
“It’s a completely original standalone story, developed in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.”
As you’d expect from both Bond and IO Interactive, this will be a globe-trotting adventure featuring gadgets, gizmos, and tons of action. It even looks like there’ll be some car chase sequences judging by the trailer.
The game’s due out in 2026 and will be enhanced for PS5 Pro, running at 60fps in Quality Mode. If you can’t wait, more information will be announced during IO Interactive’s own showcase later this week.

In the lack of uncharted, this will do just fine.
Looks beautiful but i need to see more gameplay
Kinda stole the show for me.
They seem to be leaning into the books a bit more, ain't no bad thing.
Looks awesome.
Extra aura points for the right scar~ 🥂
He looked really young to me - maybe that means I’m just getting old. Reminded me more of Tom Holland. I’ve never really pictured bond as anything other than a 40-odd-year old man.
Maybe the gameplay carries the game, but my first impressions of a 26 year old bond feel nothing like the film franchise I grew up loving. I guess it’s to try and appeal to a different audience now that the bond franchise has kind of taken a bit of a hiatus.
The Indiana jones game leaned heavily into the films, I feel like this game is more of a reimagining of bond, maybe using the oringal books as source material rather than a doubling down on the cinematic representation of the character.
@Nem
Took the words out of my mouth! Both this and new Mafia game looks like stratching that itch.
I'm so glad it's not stealth focused Hitman reskin more like Bond meets Uncharted which the way it should be. If only Indy game would be more like that too...
It felt more Uncharted than Hitman which I’m absolutely fine with. It should be excellent.
I hope they don’t abandon Hitman after 007 makes them a crap ton of money. Both would be amazing IPs to piggyback off of one another for the studio.
@Neither_scene
It's supposed to be a young Bond because the point is that it's an origin story.
Looks like the 007 game I've been waiting for since GoldenEye.
@PegasusActual93 I understand that. But it also feels like the only thing this game has taken from the 007 films is the theme tune. I find that disappointing. But again, maybe that’s because I’m getting old.
Looks promising so far. I'll have to see more gameplay, but initial impressions are great.
Looks great, but I just can't unsee Tom Cruise as 007!
The only James Bond game i ever played was Quantum of Solace on PS2 and it was pretty fun. This one looks like a bit of Uncharted though.
That looks REALLY impressive! I’m glad (as many others have said) that it’s not some Hitman re-skin which I was initially concerned about. Looking forward to this for sure!
Since this was announced, I always felt the Hitman games would work better as a Mission Impossible game. So I was very skeptical of this game.
This trailer was great. It completely made me hyped for this.
Pretty interesting to see the stark opinion difference between this site and Pure Xbox on this game.
@Neither_scene “ But it also feels like the only thing this game has taken from the 007 films is the theme tune.”
Sounds like you just want to play a carbon copy of films but in game form… and that has nothing to do with getting “old”.
Its made by IO so i have full faith in the game.
It looks like everything I’ve ever wanted in a game. I adore the Hitman series and trust the devs know what they’re doing. I’d also like to reiterate that this being an origin story while modern day means that yes, Bond will be born in about 2000. Part of it is getting old, but part of it is that people back in the day looked about 50 by the time they reached 30. They’ve gone for a book accurate origin therefore he has to be a posh boy born in the last 25 years who went to private schools. The only difference is that Bond is only like semi-rapey as opposed to full blown rapey like those guys.
Looks really good already. Looking forward to it
Looking good. Here's hoping to great gameplay.
@FatalBubbles What's Pure Xbox residents said about this game?
This looks ***** AWESOME!
Should be a banger, looking forward to it!!
@PuppetMaster As more comments came in there were some positive but a few highlights.
“That looks grotesque IMO. Not for me at all. He looks like a right geek”.
“Looks so bad. The guy doesn't even look like a suave Bond. He has a huge scar on his face as though he's Blofeld. The supporting cast aren’t interesting. Disappointing”.
“Way to Canadian it up IO, such boring predictable tropes, and Bond looks like a dork”.
“It looks like IO is trying to beat Amazon to the punch on who can make the cringiest adaptation of Bond… I’m getting the Uncharted movie vibes from this, down to the Tom Holland-esque miscast. Yikes“.
@AverageGamer "Sounds like you just want to play a carbon copy of films but in game form… and that has nothing to do with getting “old”."
Nah, I think many of us like the look of the game but don't feel like this Bond is very reminiscent of the character we're familiar with. For me, I think "Bond" and think nice suit, suave and sophisticated. This character feels more like Nathan Drake x Ethan Hunt.
@AverageGamer my reference to aging was more in line with the idea that older people become much more set in their ways than younger people and are less likely to embrace change. In this case, I’m struggling to embrace this new-look bond over the bond I’ve grown up loving in the films I watched as a kid and adult.
@Cornpop76 Yea, I feel inclined to agree with you.
What does the Bond license actually mean though? This trailer definitely ticks the MI5 box, the music, the gadgets and the essence of the associated characters, Bond included. More-so when we consider the books too (which we should, really).
So is it that Bond doesn't look right? That's a tricky one isn't it. Does this game improve if Bond looks like Sean Connery? I mean, for me, yes absolutely! But actually... does it need that?
Ultimately I want to see more.
Have to say though... for a game that is out in 2026. That's an impressive trailer to drop in June 2025!
