Developer Enhance Games has announced Lumines Arise, a brand new entry in the classic arcade puzzle series.
Coming to PS5 (with full, optional PSVR2 support) in Fall 2025, this looks like the studio is building on its previous work with Tetris Effect, bringing the wonderful fusion of music and visualisers to Lumines' gameplay.
It looks stunning, and in some ways is a more natural fit, with the levels running in time with their backing tracks.
The PS Blog suggests the game will have a single-player journey similar to Tetris Effect.

"You emerge from the darkness in the first stage (a glimpse of which you saw in today’s announcement trailer), and every stop on the over 30-stage journey evokes a different and complex emotional response," says director Takashi Ishihara. "From lush jungles, oceans teeming with life, and snakes preparing to strike, to more electronic frontiers like the bustling streets of Tokyo and the endless expanse of outer space. All with visual flourishes to incite synesthesia."
For those out of the loop, Lumines is a falling block puzzle game in which you drop 2x2 squares into a well, each made up of two different blocks. Your aim is to make matching 2x2 squares, and any you've made will be wiped from the board on a regular basis, partly based on the tempo of the music.
A new feature called Burst sounds a lot like Tetris Effect's Focus; after building up a meter, you can briefly pause time and build up a block, making it as large as you can before the time returns to normal, scoring a ton of points.
A playable demo of Lumines Arise is coming later in the summer, so you'll be able to get a taste of how it plays before the Fall release.

Absolutely delighted. Lumines Electronic Symphony was a complete surprise and addiction for me on the Vita. Can't wait to play this!
I've been playing the crap out of Lumines Remastered lately, and loved Tetris Effect, so this was amazing news! Honestly I never stopped playing Lumines since the original PSP release, so this is a fantastic way to keep me playing forever.
@Rob_230 That game (even the demo) got me hooked as well! Love Lumines.
After Tetris, easily my favorite series of puzzle games. The original was one of the main reasons I got a PSP early on. This will be a day one buy for sure.
Cannot wait for this, was well excited when i saw this on SoP.
Oh always love new lumines games. I will wait to see if this goes multi platform though. Would prefer on the go.
@EmuRage totally agree Emu, I'm still playing remastered after what 20 years or so since the original first came out? Bring it on
Possible hand-tracking support for PSVR2 @1.30 in trailer. Unless it is just an outer graphic. Could work well in a game like this though.
“Tetris Effect, but Lumines” is the most exciting gaming news I’ve heard all year! Sign me up.
Really excited for this. That cliché of Tetris Effect being a "religious experience" on PSVR2 is actually a pretty apt description.
