Weirdness: inFAMOUS: Second Son Preaches Safe Sex with Supercharged Condoms

Posted by Sammy Barker

Great power, great responsibility

inFAMOUS: Second Son protagonist Delsin Rowe may be a bit of a wild child, but even he understands the importance of keeping his appendages covered when things get a little hotter than his smoke superpowers. And in order to spread that message, GameStop Italy is giving away a pack of glow-in-the-dark condoms when you pre-order the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive from the store.

The promotional package – originally spotted by All Games Beta – also comes with a couple of cans of Red Bull, providing you with the oomph to work through all of your luminous sex shields in a single night. “A fill of energy for an explosion of pleasure,” reads the translated pre-order kit packaging. “Enjoy your power.” Alternatively, you could just put these on your head and make out like you’re some kind of fluorescent alien, but that would be a bit silly, wouldn’t it?

Is this just random? With their usual teen rating, sucker punch wouldn't throw in a scene like that...right?

No, you're supposed to wear the condoms while playing the game, that way you protect your pants. And the red bull is so you can play all night.

Glow in the dark condoms. Taking that neon power to a whole new level!

I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about Italy's culture, but isn't this a strange thing to put in a 16 rated game? Espcially one that's rated T in the US. I'm also struggling to see how bundling condoms with this game makes any sense.

cruches24 said:

will we see this in the US seems really hillarious would love it for collection

Jaz007 said:

@cruches24 I doubt, it wouldn't mix with the Teen rating. Condoms can't help a game that has a T rating in the US.

Honestly, I don't really want to get condoms for my pre-order, it's just so wrong

I don't like this at all- they'll do anything for attention nowadays. Why not throw in a few needles too and preach against sharing? Keep that junk separate from video games.

"But if you pre order this game we'll throw in 3 morning-after pills and a condom! Have fun kids!"

Is this a Sucker Punch thing or a Gamestop Italy thing? Was this ad in the same store as that PS4 fake Wii U game? Giving away condoms in Italy just doesnt seem legit to me. And why Italy but no where else? Are these real condoms? Ive had a few glow-in-the-dark condoms in my life and theyve all said - Novelty item: not for use during sexual intercourse - or some such on the wrapper.

Red Bull makes sense though.

Yes, I hope this particular strangeness doesn't get picked up by the mainstream press because it doesn't show either the game or the ps4 in a non-perverted family-friendly light. After the porn on the Playroom perhaps some extra care needs to be taken with things like this.

Ummm lewd. Thanks, Italy, for the Roman Empire, FIATs, Mussolini, and 18+ prophylactics packaged-in with games made for kids. Anyone wanna move there with me?........

Bliquid said:

I'm half proud and half embarassed to be italian.
The embarassed half comes from the fact that we aren't those legendary, unsatiable lovers we used to be, but we tirelessly keep on try giving that image.
Or maybe it's just me.
The proud half is that this is a smart, cheek-in-tongue idea that has a good message behind.
And seeing the high ratio of young parents around here, messages like this are never enough.
And that's not just me, i became father way along my road.

Bliquid said:

@charlesnarles : just read your comment. Honestly, i like Push Square because it's a relatively relaxed place to talk about my favourite hobby, but i didn't like your comment, among the other ignorant ones in this thread. Not one bit.
I'm all for jokes regarding stereotypes and stuff, i find them funny when they are an innocuous poking. Your conment wasn't funny, just stupid.
Sorry i felt to say this, but a line was crossed.

Shellybird27 said:

@Bliquid just a joke. People make fun of America all the time, and I don't get offended. Why would you? I join in, I make fun of 'America all all the time, they're jokes.

Bliquid said:

@Shellybird27 : as i said, i don't mind jokes, i actually like them. And sure thing, you won't hear me say that Italy or italians are perfect or not-joking material.
We have plenty of reasons to be laughed at.
Fascism is not one of those.
Let's end it here, please.

Tasuki said:

Guys lets please watch the jokes. Its one thing to make jokes and such but remember we do get users from around the world so what seems an innocent joke in one culture might not be the case in another.

Anyway lets do like Bliquid said and end it here and keep the comments focused on the article at hand here.

Which I will add this is indeed a strange gift for preorder I wonder what board member said Hey I know lets include a box of condoms as a preorder gift. Further more I wonder who okayed it.

Getting offended offends me.

I admit i dont know much about the infamous series but I cant see any connection between the game and condoms. Am i missing something?? Seems like a very very peculiar decision.

Fire-and-Water said:

I've actually heard about people suffocating to death because they put a condom over their heads, how about another clever **** joke pushsquare?

charlesnarles said:

@Bliquid Including condoms is tongue-in-cheek to you, but my post on the internet you take seriously? Ferraris and lasagna and the Mario Bros are also from Italy and I've got nothing but good things to say about them! (srsly no offense, dude)

Bliquid said:

@charlesnarles : none taken, then.
I guess i get emo sometimes.
And as proof i'm not a mindless "no-jokes-about-my-country", (and to get back on topic):
This is actually a good idea, maybe if people around here used more protections when getting naked we'd get less Berlusconis.

Squiggle55 said:

I think it's a fine idea. Very strange, but fine. Safe sex is nothing but a positive message. They aren't including free sex with the game. The game is rated 16+ in Italy and that's a terrific time to send this message. Education is our friend.
