A Way Out (PS4)

A Way Out can only be played in two-player co-op, and because it's designed around that restraint, it's an excellent multiplayer adventure. Playing as a pair of convicts, the game takes you and a buddy on a wild ride as they escape from prison and look to get revenge for those that did them dirty. With an interesting story and lots of co-op focused gameplay, this is a great game to play with a pal.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (PS5)

FromSoftware took a break from its uber-popular Dark Souls, Elden Ring experiences to return to a series it made before it was popular: Armored Core. This sixth mainline entry is very similar to past iterations — so there may be some whiplash for newer fans — but it remains (almost) just as good. You'll be in and out of the action, customising your mech with new parts to make sure they perform out on the battlefields of Rubicon. It's a consistently good experience, but don't expect it to be quite as memorable as what FromSoftware is now known for.

Assassin's Creed Shadows (PS5)

Ubisoft finally takes the fight to Japan in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Boasting dual protagonists and one of the most detailed, intricate open worlds in the entire series, Shadows is another emotionally charged tale of vengeance. The game pushes stealth-based gameplay much harder than its RPG peers, but doesn't shy away from crunchy, counter-heavy combat in the process, offering up the best of both worlds when it comes to stab-happy action. An undeniably strong entry in the long-running franchise, capped off with endearing characters and a surprisingly nuanced story.

Battlefield 6 (PS5)

Battlefield 6 is a phenomenal multiplayer experience that immerses and impresses with its chaotic mix of tight gunplay, best-in-class audio design, and the cinematic flair that made us love the series in the first place. The campaign isn’t anything to write home about, and Portal has yet to fully prove its worth, but they act as additions to what is easily the best Battlefield in over a decade.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (PS4)

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a wonderful love letter to Castlevania fans. It's gothy, camp, and unabashedly old school. But it's also a meticulously crafted game that constantly rewards players for exploration and offers unbridled options in combat. For long-time Metroidvania fans, Ritual of the Night is an unmissable celebration of the genre from the mind of one if its chief architects, while for newcomers it's an accessible entry-point that's easy to pick up and oh so difficult to put down.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (PS5)

That eternal Dragon Quest charm is especially potent in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake — a thoughtful repackaging of a classic RPG. With its quality of life additions and delightful 3D visuals, it's easy to argue that this is the adventure's definitive form — even if some of its structural weaknesses remain in place.

Elden Ring (PS5)

Elden Ring’s crowning achievement is taking a relatively niche gameplay loop – refined over the years with Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, et al – and presenting it to the masses. FromSoftware’s open world magnum opus is a staggering achievement: a sandbox bursting at the seams with vulgar secrets, all presented with enough ambiguity to make combing every square inch of its dramatic Lands Between backdrop feel like true discovery. With a complex combat system enabling an eclectic array of gameplay styles, and some of the most devilish encounters in gaming history, this is an unmissable experience – and then some.

Elden Ring Nightreign (PS5)

Elden Ring Nightreign is a very interesting game that’s likely going to divide FromSoftware fans. It’s not the hand-crafted RPG that we’ve come to expect from the storied developer, but it does manage to take much of the gameplay depth of Elden Ring, and retrofit it into a fast-paced multiplayer experience. While we don’t think it really holds a candle to games like Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring, it isn’t really trying to. This is basically FromSoftware having some fun with its IP, and with a squad of friends, Elden Ring Nightreign is a blast.

Forza Horizon 5 (PS5)

Forza Horizon 5 might be a few years old, but its vast amount of activities, robust feature set, and superb driving model mean it's still out in front. It isn't perfect — it can feel bloated and overwhelming, the AI is frustrating at times, and the characters and dialogue are a constant weakness. However, behind the wheel, tackling its myriad events and exploring the beautiful open world, it's hard to not be convinced by its optimistic personality and sense of fun. Despite its late arrival on PS5, it still feels showroom fresh.

Gotham Knights (PS5)

A spin-off of the Batman: Arkham series, Gotham Knights does its best to transition the world of the Caped Crusader to a Destiny-style co-op experience. The results are a little mixed, and subsequently it fails to match up to the high points of Rocksteady’s iconic series. However, there’s a nice story and enjoyable combat system on offer, which at least offers some short-lived entertainment.
