@NEStalgia Sony's engineers likely designed it that way for compatibility because PCs have many different USB implementations. Even when they support DisplayPort via USB, they don't always have the same bandwidth, and in many cases they're not able to interface with the GPU properly. So to ensure compatibility with most systems, it was probably best to have a dedicated video connection and a separate USB connection for all other i/o communication.
They need to release a USB wireless adapter for connecting the Dualsense to PC. A wired connection is still required to enable ALL features (I know adaptive triggers work via Bluetooth, but haptics do not).
@sanderson72 @GrimWillows It's not an emulator app that can run just any PS2 game. The way emulation works on consoles is they package each game with a specifically tuned version of the emulator. Similar to how on PC or mobile the emulator settings need to be tweaked to get the best performance out of each game. On consoles that part is already done for the user. Due to this approach, users can't use the emulator to play any games from their library, including games that utilize the old emulator which were released on PS4. Sony would need to update each of those titles to utilize the new improved emulator. There's a good chance they will do this for multiple reasons: 1) They have a responsibility to fix those broken titles that they sold to customers in recent history, 2) They already have those titles available for sale on PS Store, so a portion of the work is already done.
@Jswift56 What are you basing that info on? Last news on the subject that I heard was that Tony Hawk revealed Activision decided not to move forward with the project and instead had Vicarious Visions absorbed into Blizzard.
I wish Ubi would release some more linear, story-based games, like they used to in the PS2 and PS3 days. Games like Splinter Cell, the 3D Prince of Persia titles, or GRAW. While I enjoy Assassin's Creed and am most looking forward to the Splinter Cell remake, I would love to see a new title similar to the aforementioned ones that they did so well. It's amazing how they were best in class in that type of game back then, and now they've completely abandoned it for the open world and live service genres. Though, The Lost Crown was definitely a welcomed surprise and hopefully a sign that Ubi is returning to their roots in some capacity.
I just don't want to compromise on visual quality in exchange for frame rate, and want sustained 60fps. If the Pro combined with PSSR upscaling can achieve Quality Mode-level visuals at locked 60fps, then I'm sold.
@pyrrhic_victory The One X has a slightly more powerful GPU and 2GB more VRAM, so it can push higher resolutions. Otherwise, the Series S is superior overall.
@LiamCroft Doesn't it also run at 4K on Xbox One X? I don't believe there are any enhancements when played on Series X. The article seems to imply that the game is enhanced on current gen on Xbox and not on PS5, but that isn't the case. The game just ran at a higher res on Xbox last gen because the One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro. This resolution disparity is simply still reflected when the game is played on current gen machines.
@ShadowofSparta I took away more than that from the news. That was just one observation that piqued my curiosity. I'm not in the least bit aggrieved over it. I think you misread my intent. Didn't mean to offend.
@VaultGuy415 Valve designed the Index alongside Alyx, but they also added support for nearly every other PC VR headset through SteamVR, which is an API that allows any headset that supports it to work with any game designed to work with SteamVR. So Sony and/or Valve would just need to make PS VR2 support SteamVR and it would be compatible with hundreds of existing and future games.
@gonzilla Yes, please! The only reason I never bought Rock Band 4 is because I couldn't get my hands on the drum kit. I would absolutely buy it if they release a good drums peripheral. I stopped playing RB1 back in the day because the drum heads were too loud. They fixed it for RB2, but I couldn't purchase another set at the time.
@DrVenture69 I just recently got my PS5 and was very disappointed to learn they still haven't addressed that. At least we can do full system backups. It's a lot more inconvenient, but our saves will be secured if anything should happen to the console.
@Turismo4GT Glad to see I'm not the only one still using the Platinum headset. My only problem is the material on the ear cups is peeling pretty badly. It's not something I did because I take good care of my stuff and the same thing happened to my Gold headset, my PS VR, and my PSP Go Case which just sits on the shelf. I think it has something to do with the faux leather material they use combined with my room's temperature/dryness.
The only features I'm waiting for are: 1) Backup individual PS5 game saves to USB storage. 2) In game library, add "Disc" as a parameter for the Source filter (currently, by default the library displays games purchased from PS Store, disc, and claimed from PS+. There's a Source filter with options for PS Store and PS+, but there's no Disc option. This means we can't filter out PS+ games, which is annoying for non-plus subscribers like myself who only want to view games we actually have access to in our library). I'm sure Sony won't add this because they want us to constantly see the games we can't play anymore in hopes that it will get us to renew our subscriptions.
@HotGoomba I thought the same until I got mine. I have it oriented horizontally and I think it actually looks nice that way. But it looks just as bad vertically in person as it does in photos. I was originally planning on standing it that way, but the unsightly disc drive bulge combined with the need to purchase the vertical stand separately pushed me to make it work horizontally. Just had to move my Xbox One to storage, which wasn't an issue since I never use it anyway.
I honestly don't understand the disappointment over the lack of a new trophy set. I was so annoyed when it was revealed that the PS5 version of Witcher 3 had a separate trophy list because I had already platinumed the PS4 version and just needed to play the expansions to get 100%. Now, if I play the expansions on PS5, I'll never complete the list. I feel the same about when console and Vita versions of the same game don't share a trophy list.
With games I like, I enjoy the challenge of obtaining all of their trophies, but this idea of wanting doubles of trophies and collecting as many as possible as if they have value, I'll simply never understand.
I waited 3 years for a redesign or Pro model, but I just bought the original GoW Ragnarok bundle for $460 from Verizon. I'm also getting 7.5% cashback. If a better deal comes along on the "Slim", I'll get it and return the OG model, but I'm not going to pay more for the additional 175GB of SSD storage. The smaller size doesn't really matter to me since I'm standing it vertically on an open surface. Also, no need to buy the overpriced vertical stand.
@Rioichi Why not? I haven't heard of any controversy surrounding him. I didn't find anything through a Google search either. Thanks in advance if you could share.
@CrispyMango92 I don't have a PS5 yet, but I nearly always fully power off my consoles. This way if there's a power outage they are safe. They also draw less power. Besides, PS systems start up quickly—at least my PS4 Pro and PS3 do. Can't say the same about Xbox systems; my XB One takes a while to start up after a full shut down.
The only time I use rest mode is when I know I'm going to use the console again in a few hours, which is rare.
I had the PS2 version of this game pre-ordered at GameStop back in 2003. Was so disappointed when it was cancelled. I had always hoped it would eventually find its way on to the web. Can't believe I can finally play it 20 years later.
I wish the USB adapter could also be used to wirelessly connect the Dualsense to PC, retaining all supported features. Currently, PC games with official Dualsense support only work via a wired connection. Adaptive triggers and enhanced haptic feedback don't work with a Bluetooth connection.
@ReadySlayerOne I wasn't implying they should make online multiplayer free. I meant they should allow save data backup to USB storage like on PS4. Or make cloud backup free to all users like Xbox and Steam does.
@QuoVadis You can backup PS4 game saves individually the same way it works on PS4, but for PS5 games, you can only do a full backup of all saves, and if you want to restore them you need to restore the whole console, which wipes the whole system, like a factory reset. It's a slow process that involves multiple reboots; it's incredibly inconvenient. Really only to be used to secure your save data in the event of a console failure.
I rarely was a subscriber to Plus since it first launched and now I probably will never subscribe again. I don't play online and like to buy my games, so it just isn't worth it for me. The only feature I want is PS5 game save cloud backup. On PS4 I can backup to a USB drive, but on PS5 they block that feature. It's really unacceptable to hold people's saves hostage like that.
@thetraditional 2 and 3 do run at 60fps on PS4 in this master collection, and these ports are based on Bluepoint's 2011 remaster, so they're not any worse than those. Not sure what lead you to believe otherwise.
I'm probably one of the few on here that still doesn't have a PS5. I'm planning on buying one this season and I'm just going to go for the best deal, whether it's the slim or the OG model. Probably the OG since I don't want to pay more to stand it vertically. I was hoping a Pro model would release by now, but since that's likely not happening for another year, I'm not going to wait until then. I'm already behind enough as it is. I'll just sell my console and upgrade to the Pro later on, same as I did with my PS4.
I've been waiting for a new model to finally get a PS5 and now I'm probably going to purchase the original. I need to stand mine vertically, but I'm not about to pay more for that basic feature. @Fuzzymonkeyfunk No, I rarely subscribe to PS+. I got the Ultimate Edition for free on PC from a family member's Prime Gaming monthly games. I still might pick it up on PS5 if there's a good enough sale.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk I did watch them; they weren't bad, but I would've preferred more gameplay. You can skip them. Also, when I played it there was a Windows bug that caused the videos to play at a higher speed, so I had to watch them on YouTube and the video quality was poor. I haven't played Control yet, but it seems like they learned a lot from QB and improved in many ways. Looking forward to playing it soon.
I hope this doesn't mean they padded it out with collectible text diaries like they did in Quantum Break. Played that on PC recently and while I enjoyed it overall, there were way too many text notes to read, and they were long as well. Obviously they're optional, but so much of the story was fleshed out through them that you're missing out if you skip them. Every few steps and you're reading for 3 minutes.
All that success and Activision still won't greenlight a 60fps patch for a single game of theirs. Not even for CTR Nitro-fueled, which would benefit from that greatly being a racing game. Not to mention it's the only true Mario Kart rival.
I have no problem with the game being a straight port, but at the bare minimum it needs to have increased resolution and frame rate on PS5, and since only one of those boxes are checked, it's a deal breaker for me, especially at that price. I'm still bewildered with how Take-2 was willing to fund development of this port, but stopped short of 60fps and a PC version. It doesn't add up. I suspect they wanted to keep frame rate parity across all consoles and a PC port will be released a bit later on.
No increased frame rate or resolution? Even when played on PS5? Seriously? And how could they not be bringing it to PC as well?
Edit:
I just noticed that the PS Store listing has the "PS4 Pro enhanced" label, which makes sense since I believe that is mandated by Sony, so there may be some improvement over the PS3 version after all (at least when played on PS4 Pro or PS5).
