Re: Physical Media Just Can't Catch a Break Right Now

xDD90x

I predict that the PS6 will not include a disc drive, but there will be an optional external drive sold separately, so it won't be like the PS5's drive that mounts inside the console. I wish Sony designed the PS5's drive to be external to future proof it to be compatible with the PS6 and beyond instead of necessitating the purchase of another one when the time comes.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available Today in Phased Release

xDD90x

This would've been more useful 2 weeks ago when I did the transfer to my new Pro. It took a few attempts to get it to work. I did it via the LAN cable method. One annoying quirk is that even with this method both consoles need to be connected to Wi-Fi to perform the transfer. But my old system was always wired, so I had to reconnect the HDMI cable to the old PS5 to connect it to Wi-Fi, then hook my Pro back up to the TV and try again. Another thing I noticed is that many settings did not transfer over, so I had to take a video recording of all the settings on my old system and then reference that to set them on the Pro. Hopefully, this update addressed these issues.

Re: 'No Plans' for Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Patch, CD Projekt Red Confirms

xDD90x

@anon_pel222 Every developer that has released a Pro patch for their games is neck deep in their next project, yet they manage to do it. Insomniac patched all 4 of their PS5 games. Ubisoft has patched 4 AC games, including the 9-year old Syndicate just yesterday. No excuses. Especially not for Rockstar/Take2.

Re: Assassin's Creed Syndicate Finally Gets 60fps Patch on PS5, PS5 Pro

xDD90x

Kudos to Ubisoft for all these patches for old AC games. Meanwhile, Take-Two and Activision refuse to patch even one of their last gen titles. Even Sony won't update Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian, or The Order, which has been proven to be a relatively trivial task.

I enjoyed this game for what it was. If they proceed to give this treatment to Unity, AC3 Remastered and The Ezio Collection, that would be incredible, but they have already gone above and beyond. (Black Flag is rumored to be getting a remaster, so if true, a patch isn't needed)

Re: How to Transfer Data from PS5 to PS5 Pro

xDD90x

@darthvirgin No, this article isn't entirely accurate. It should work the same way it does with PS5 to PS5. We just don't have 100% confirmation yet. But there's no reason to believe it wouldn't work from PS5 to PS5 Pro.

Re: How to Transfer Data from PS5 to PS5 Pro

xDD90x

@LiamCroft
"This is the only way to transfer save data outside of the official Data Transfer offered by Sony; there's no other way of doing it".

I believe this is incorrect. The PS5 has a backup and restore feature that includes save data. You can backup the system to an external drive and restore it on another system. See the official PS support article titled "How to back up and restore PS5 console data".

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

xDD90x

I haven't bought a game on day 1, or even month 1, since the PS3 generation. In fact, for the past decade I haven't played a game in its year 1. I just don't have the money or the time. I'm currently about 5 years behind and I don't mind it at all. I pay an average of $15 per game, including AAA titles. I do buy/play a lot of games, however.

Re: TV Show Review: Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft - Globetrotting Animated Adventure Edges Lara's Arc Forward

xDD90x

@Blaze215 While I generally agree with you, I do find it quite immersion breaking when I'm playing as Lara, Aloy or Chloe in Uncharted and they're scaling a cliff with their bone-thin arms with the same effortlessness as Nathan Drake—even though such a feat would be physically impossible for him as well. Or how these petite women can just as easily take down multiple trained men in armed or unarmed combat. So giving Lara a strong upper body actually makes more sense to me. She might not be as attractive to most guys who don't prefer women with ripped arms, but she still has a clear feminine figure.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn PS4's Price Doubles After PS5 Remaster Announcement

xDD90x

@Alps_Stranger My point exactly. I agree that they shouldn't have made the remaster, but once they did, they had to determine pricing. Their decision to offer the $10 upgrade and raise the price of the PS4 version was actually less sleazy than the alternative options because most people who are interested in playing HZD have already bought it by now. So the vast majority of players will be getting the game for the low upgrade price—including those who were given it for free—instead of everyone paying $50 as you proposed.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Looks Sublime on PS5

xDD90x

@Oram77 That's a bit misleading. They only removed the "A Hideo Kojima Game" card from the opening. Otherwise, he is still fully credited - "Mr. Kojima and all the original development staff are of course credited for their original roles". -Noriaki Okamura, Producer

Re: All Eyes on Aloy (Again), as Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Comparison Does the Rounds

xDD90x

I'll buy it due to the cheap upgrade price, but surely Sony must know that there's a plethora of first party games that are much more in need of a remaster than this one—a game that is not only already playable on PS5, but is even enhanced. I would think that a full priced remastered collection of any of the beloved series stranded on PS3 would generate more profit than this HZD remaster, of which the vast majority of its sales will undoubtedly be through the upgrade.

Re: Sony Priming 'Even Less Exciting' PS5 Remaster for State of Play

xDD90x

I don't see how a HZD remaster would sell better than a remastered collection of any of these PS3 series: Resistance, Killzone, Infamous, Motorstorm, Ratchet & Clank. I guess it requires a lot less work, so it's cheaper to do. But it's still so disappointing to know that they prioritize a game that already looks and runs great on both PS5 and PC.

Re: Prospective PS5 Pro Buyers Cause Disc Drives to Sell Out

xDD90x

@ButterySmooth30FPS Yes, that was from the blog post, but the next sentence is "Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available". The last 4 words suggest that it uses different covers, but the disc drive compatibility suggests otherwise. It looks like the designers compensated for the height differential with the thick band of black in between the side covers compared to the Slim model's thin strip. So the covers should be identical.

Re: Prospective PS5 Pro Buyers Cause Disc Drives to Sell Out

xDD90x

Am I the only one to notice that the fact that the Pro uses the same disc drive as the Slim indicates that they both use the same console covers, despite the blog post suggesting otherwise? This also tells us that both models have the same depth measurement.

Re: Roughly 50 Games Ready for PS5 Pro Launch with Dedicated Patches

xDD90x

For fans of The Last Guardian, Sony has a great solution for us to play the game at 60fps: all we have to do is own a disc copy of the game and a PS5 disc drive, then disconnect from the network or delete any patches that were installed. Now we can enjoy the high frame rate with bugs and missing optimizations. No patch needed!

Re: Gallery: PS5 Pro Is Looking Sleek in These Official Shots

xDD90x

What I want to know is are the covers identical to the slim model's covers? That's the only way there would be a chance that I buy one down the line because I have a slim with the disc drive, and I would want to move the drive over to the Pro and swap the covers so that I could sell my slim as a digital only model.

Re: Bite-Sized Ratchet & Clank Will Prove Size Matters on PS5, PS4

xDD90x

I enjoyed this game on PSP back in the day and I'm looking forward to playing it again with trophies on PS5.

In a case like this where there's PSP and PS2 versions of the same game, I'm curious how Sony chooses which one to bring forward. I would think the PS2 versions are generally superior in terms of graphics and controls. It would be nice if they released both. Same for Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal and Motorstorm: Arctic Edge (we'll probably never get this one due to music licensing, sadly).

Re: Rumour: Sony's Still Working on PS3 Emulation for PS5

xDD90x

@Rainbowjames Not really, unfortunately. The best they offer is the option to view your account transaction history from the PS website. It's extremely unintuitive as it's a list full of entries of "Wallet funding" and "Product purchase", and you need to select them one at a time to expand them to see what was purchased. Even more frustrating is how every time you expand a record and then go back to the list, it goes back to the top of the list and you need scroll back to where you were. There is a chrome extension that allowed exporting the list, but it doesn't work anymore.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Still Working on PS3 Emulation for PS5

xDD90x

As great as this would be, I doubt the PS5 has enough power overhead to run PS3 games with enhanced resolution or frame rate. I would much prefer it if they released remastered collections of that legendary first-party library (Resistance, Killzone, Infamous, Ratchet, Motorstorm, God of War, etc.) similar to what they did on PS3 with their PS2 library. Though, of course, emulation is better than nothing.

Re: Hands On: They're Rough Around the Edges, But It's Awesome to Have PS2 Games Back on PS5, PS4

xDD90x

@AdamNovice It's actually the opposite; consoles have resources reserved for the system and all its features, so developers know exactly what's available for their game. On PC, this is not the case and the user's system settings could adversely impact performance. However, the user could also improve performance of games by manually optimizing OS settings. For this reason Windows has Game mode which prioritizes the PC's resources for games. There's no brute forcing that PC can do that PS5 can't, unless you're referring to overclocking.

Take for example, how the modder Illusion got games such as The Order: 1886 and RDR2 running at locked 60fps on PS5 by modifying basic API calls, yet Sony has still not implemented this. Microsoft on the other hand has done exactly this through their backwards compatibility program. They created patches for games without needing access to the code; all they needed was the go ahead from the games' publishers. Sony could do this, but they choose not to. It's the same with their emulation efforts.

The PS5 is more than capable of PS2 emulation with all the enhancements we see on PC and other devices. It's all dependant on the emulator they're utilizing and if Sony or Implicit Conversions want to support the enhancements.

Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60

xDD90x

@NEStalgia
"every other wired HMD just has a USB-C port and PCVR players don't see to have problems with this".

This is not true. For example, Valve Index, HTC Vive, HP Reverb G2, and Pimax Vision 8K all connect via both USB and display cables. The only VR headsets that connect with a single USB cable that I'm aware of are the Quests. And there are many reports of issues with the connection; so much so that many claim the wireless connection methods are more reliable.
