Not at all defending the virtually empty discs.

While wonder how common or often one would purchase a physical game and never once connect the console online.

And / or even not create any PS (nor Nintendo, nor Microsoft) account.

However any and all possible.

Admittedly haven’t done any research into.

While will try ‘cold’ method with upcoming Switch 2.

Did not realize auto racing genre that popular (considering or not that PS already has Gran Turisimo, as well as third party Need for Speed franchise).

MLB 24 The Show and very slooooowly finishing Uncharted 2 (maybe)

I thought it may. The main title I play on PS5 is MLB 24 (single player).

But ‘bought’ that one as an Essential monthly pick when available.

Figured would have to be logged in to work. But did anyway, to my pleasant surprise.

Not even considering that some discs are merely just a validity key to unlock (full download still required).

While others may still require a patch / update right out of the ‘box’.

I haven’t tried.

I only do offline single player. But was still potentially concerned that one of my monthly ‘free’ PS Plus Essential titles would require PSN login.

Still launches with no issue (besides notification that game server not available).

while gamers can have a reputation of being lazy now……….

While I was very well alive in 1994 and clearly remember numerous events of that year.

As ‘smart’ electronics get shrunk, I can see all ‘mainstream’ consoles eventually be hybrid like the Switch (which BTW, had received much criticism upon unveiling in late 2016).

Smartphones do not have native physical gamepads, while handheld consoles not too ideal to slip into a pocket (same with anything featuring a 50-60-70 inch display).

Certainly some nostalgia with myself and PS1.

Was my first ever self-purchased console.

While will also always remember needing to connect the included tri-color audio / video cables to my VCR and use that as passthrough for my TV (which only had a coax input).

I’ve gone all digital and have no idea where placed my detached drive a few months ago.

(got a white aftermarket cover plate for the more sleek / symmetrical look on my Slim)

I skipped previous gen. Was PS4 Pro easy to find like PS5 Pro right now?

Quite happy, must say.

I also have Xbox (cough) / Game Pass (cough again) to play MLB The Show.

While my basic PS Plus sub still runs for a while. With that, can now get MLB there and cancel Game Pass (throat clears).

Also interested in WWE. Haven’t really got into any wrestling genre since ‘Pro Wrestling’ on Sega Master System. Looooong overdue for me and won’t pass up if ‘free’.

All while, Sony ‘owed’ me after offering NHL 24 when I had already paid for it outright.

Many naysayers are still going to purchase.

While don’t know if worth it for myself while ‘still’ using a LG C1.

First I am aware of it, while an avid enough gamer and tech follower.

While my two ‘default’ white DualSense work just fine 😄.

Not surprised with all the time some play on just one single title since Nov. 2020. Can only log so much.

(landlord steals just about all non-portable electronics including PS4)

Though perhaps proud to admit never even spent a penny on ‘GTA Online’. All while that may be the bread and butter for revenue (furthermore not exactly motivation to rush GTA6).

I don’t care what it’s called. As long as does not exclusively depict amateur college Toilet Bowl content (as opposed to anything NFL).

Not even going to stream that for free.

Most who want a PS5 probably already have one.

Games are so deep now that can spend seemingly an entire console generation on just one or two titles.

Not everybody has disposable funds to purchase games on a whim (while dirt cheap or free ‘indie’ titles not just on console or PC can be quite fun).

Microsoft (not a fanboy of any) isn’t going anywhere. Too much of a behemoth. (Nintendo IMO somewhat of an indirect competitor to both.)

All while has been peaks and valleys with whatever forever.

No. Binge playing sports titles as usual including MLB 24.

U.S. sports junkie in me going to be busy enough with such respective titles (MLB / NFL / NHL / NBA).

@Tecinthebrain I have GP. May have only been with that version (possibly different file with intended enticement to switch to paid standalone).

At least with 23 upon release, franchise games would crash and restoration not possible with ‘quick resume’.

That would eventually be patched after a few weeks, but not the glitch causing baserunners and fielders to move improperly.

I have not tried 24 yet. Mainly due to playing franchise on 23 that got very cheap for Switch (still has some of the latter glitch, but seems to occur less often).

Tennis looks like could be fun, but still forever trying to figure out the rules.

I had played the minigame in GTA V and wasn’t too good at because of.

I am assuming that is reference to online multiplayer.

I had not done any since around 2007. Mainly because I am awful and don’t want to embarrass self.

Can also see enough players avoiding due to ban concern (including losing account and paid digital library to go along), even for just being accused of something.

I have not checked for online multiplayer number trends (even if Sony and Microsoft makes available), but most certainly have not remembered any news suggesting that such usage has been significantly declining.

Looking at my friends of friends list, one user has about 6000 hours logged of playing one of the Gran Turismo titles (my most is about 500 with MLB 22).

Sports titles may offer the highest replay value, but could also see Sony not wanting to show that.

I not too long ago ‘upgraded’ from original model PS5 to slim.

Even not considering that, I doubt all that many will be scoring a PS5 pro for one reason or another.

I would hope GTA 6 performance is still more than decent on standard PS5. Rockstar definitely owes that after denying the game contemporarily on PS4 (all resources devoted to RDR2 or not).

I have no interest in any amateur sports organization and would not buy just because.

Personal preference aside, how different could this be than Madden (also by EA and certainly not without complaint), other than uniforms / stadium appearance?

Word is the only reason that no longer exclusive to PlayStation is because MLB threatened to revoke license from Sony if not expanded to other platforms. Same may hold true for Game Pass availability.

Many advantages to digital. Actually now my entire PS4/PS5 library (as well as XSX) is such. (Nintendo-published Switch titles still primarily physical as don’t take up much console / card storage, while tend to keep higher resale value than PS or Xbox discs.)

May seem dorky / corny, but to keep some sentiment publishers should offer paper manuals via postal mail for little or no fee. Ship sealed and perhaps even serial number for added collectibility.

For whatever worth (opinion), this coming from someone whose first console was ColecoVision.

@Barryburton97 I play my PS5 more than my Series X, but by no means would consider the latter a “minor” or fringe platform.

MLB 22 more than anything else. Even with a losing season in franchise. Even with a neverending backlog of games.

@dskatter I got it (digital) for $10 as well. Still unplayed….as well. Have PSN wallet credit and just used another $10 of it on upgrade.

@Deoxyr1bose I am in US and will admit much bias as I got my Switch only 14 months ago and in no rush for the next one as have a huge backlog of games for it…..same with PS5 & Xbox 🤷‍♂️.

Switch sales still lead (software and hardware). No rush for a successor.

I have slim disc. Hopefully sooner or later can get a white replacement panel to make my console properly appear as digital. Have only one game on disc, while slim console looks so much better without off center bulge to the right (notably when using new official stand).

FIFA soccer on every top 3 list besides US, Canada, Japan and New Zealand. (no other sports titles appear on any region top 3)

GTA 5 still in top 3 just about everywhere, even being 10 years old now.

By far my hours logged on a PS5 game even this year are from MLB 22 (released last year). Guess that would not qualify lol:

Not PlayStation, but on Xbox 360 around 2008 I had purchased the entire mini series of “The Bronx is Burning” (ESPN production about the late 1970s New York Yankees).

I had hardly ever watched, but gained interest again recently. Nowhere to be found on my Series X. However, I can still access and play on my Windows PC.

Maybe all won’t be totally lost with access to TV shows directly paid for to ‘own’ with PlayStation.

Sports titles take up most of my gaming time. 162-game seasons alone in MLB can quite monopolize.

No exception this weekend.

Also just paid to upgrade my Spiderman 1 PS4 to PS5 (and oddly a smaller file size). Playing a little of that as well.

In the USA we have sales tax. Varies by state, though rate is generally 6 - 9% and does not graduate with price of purchase. (A small handful of states such as New Hampshire and Delaware impose none.)

@OldGamer999 I have been checking stores in my area USA (at least what says online) and PS5 stock certainly seems to be dwindling - even without discount (other than bundled Spiderman or Call of Duty game however much counts as).

I have all three current gen consoles (including Switch OLED). Would most definitely keep my PS5 if had to get rid of two.

Better single player exclusives (I almost never do any kind of multiplayer), much better controller, and more affordable to expand storage to top it off.

(Though way back in retrospect I definitely was against getting original PlayStation as I thought would be another failure from a hardware-first company like Panasonic with the 3D0.)

And on a very knit-picky side note, was just looking at my PS5 retail box and wonder why “PlayStation 5” is not spelled out there (there is obviously enough room to do).
