Update []: 4A Games has now confirmed Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are getting native PS5 versions, and anyone who already owns the games qualifies for a free upgrade.
Both of the new versions are coming on 29th October 2026, and they sport PS5-specific improvements:
Players on console can experience true 4K at 60FPS and upscaled 4K at 120FPS (with the right monitor or TV hardware), higher quality lighting, shadows and particle effects. Plus, we are supporting Adaptive Triggers for DualSense controllers and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. Players will also benefit from hardware tessellation and displacement at runtime on consoles, Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode support for PlayStation.

Original Story: Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light appear to be on their way to PS5 in the form of native versions, if two fresh ESRB age ratings are to be believed.
Spotted by Wario64, the Redux versions of the two games have received age ratings for PS5 versions, which don't exist currently, nor have been announced publicly. This would suggest that 4A Games has plans to put out new versions of the two titles, as the Redux branding was used when they came to PS4, having originally released on PS3.
Of course, this would work nicely in the lead-in to Metro 2039, which is coming to PS5 on 4th February 2027. Should these ports come to fruition, then the entire Metro franchise will be playable natively on PS5. All the releases have been accessible via backwards compatibility, but this work would let you have a PS5 emblem next to Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light.
Both were fantastic, atmospheric, and intense shooters for their day, and are still worth playing today — especially since Metro 2039 is returning to that more linear structure instead of expanding on Metro Exodus.
When we reviewed the Metro Redux release on PS4 that contained both titles in question, we awarded an 8/10 score and said:
"The impact is more impressive in 2033’s case, as it practically looks and plays like a brand new game, while still retaining the core of what made the original such a unique experience. Last Light’s improvements are less significant, but performance enhancements make this the definitive version of the title – especially if you originally enjoyed the outing on the PS3."
With some PS5-specific improvements, the first two Metro games should look and run better than ever.

I hope so fingers crossed
this looks promising
Hoping Metro 2039 channels a little more of the 2033 and Last Light spirit, and the eponymous Metro. It's looking good.
Well if true then it's time to platinum last light for the 3rd time the 2nd time for 2033
Bought them years ago digital. Still on the pile of… you know it.
Nice to jump in when there are native ps5 version. Having a Déjà vu with Hellblade 1.
That’s cool. These games hold up quite well imo, just played em a year ago.
Platinumed 2033 & Last Light. Only Exodus needed before 2039. It's cool that they will launch PS5 native versions. Good news for gamers who never played Metro games. The atmosphere is fantastic.
Been meaning to play last light and exodus. Keep getting lost in the backlog. A ps5 version is most welcome
This is great news! I’ve been hoping for native PS5 versions for years.
Good timing! I had recently started 2033 after buying the trilogy really cheap some time. I'll hold off now and wait for this.
I recall playing one of these (I think Last Light) years and years ago on PS3. I liked the main game—the story part—but there was some awful extraneous challenge mode crap that made the platinum a chore. It was enough to kill my interest in the series and I never bothered with 2033 or the sequels. Do we know if it’s just the main game getting the PS5 treatment or if that challenge slop is included too?
fingers crossed my disc version allows a free upgrade
Oh god dammit i just finished both on hardcore ranger as prep for 2039.
Edit - there was pretty bad screen tearing in 2033 on the Pro with the “enhance ps4 games” toggle on.
@Balaam_ Both games 2033 and Last Light are just getting an update. It's not considered a remaster or a remake so it will just be updates to the existing game. No new trophy lists.
Well, I guess I'll be returning to the ruins of post-apocalyptic Metro again soon.
Never played these but they always looked interesting. This might be intriguing enough to check them out now.
4K at 120fps all the way. Give me gyro aiming on PS5/Pro and I'll play through these again on PlayStation before the new game arrives. If not, I'll play them on my Steam Deck OLED instead.
Played this on the ps4 there good games give them a shot if u been on the fence
I've been meaning to replay them, guess I'll wait it out and play these versions.
Sony should add an agent scanning your library for free upgrades and giving you the heads up.
Switch 2 versions would be better for me
@themightyant
2039 will reportedly mix the more linear progression of Last Light with some off the beaten path elements of Exodus. I personally loved Exodus and thought Metro is the perfect fit for non linear gameplay but apparently thats an odd take.
Sweet. These games are great. I loved them enough to play and replay them for the achievements on Xboxes and Windows. Bought them again for for my PS collection and now have a great reason to get those platinums too
Freaking love these games!! Glad they'll be a free upgrade!
I've always liked the first two, and the first one is very true to the original novel. The series as a whole captures a lot of accurate subtle nuances, philosophically too. Stalker was a good adaption of Roadside Picnic but Metro went that extra mile in it's own adaption of it's own source material. I was talking to an American not to long ago about their playthrough and we discussed how different the experiences were due to culture and about the things they missed because they didn't know to look for them in the first place. That was a fun conversation.
It's a shame more people don't read the novels, they'd gain even more of an appreciation for what the game managed to become. I have English copies too so they definitely have been translated.
Godsole, master platform
Amazing! I'll quite return to these games for a full playthrough again.
@PegasusActual93 It's not that I didn't appreciate what they were trying to do with Exodus, I liked the game, I just thought they gave up too much of what made Metro unique. You could have almost slapped any old IP on Exodus, wheres 2033 and LL are distinctly "Metro", despite obvious flaws that counted for a lot with me.
