Re: Reaction: PS5's Success Is Not Luck, Because Sony's Spent Years Putting in the Hard Yards

@nomither6 it’s not like Sony has done all that much new or innovative this generation. Lots of remakes, games that run on last generation hardware, and even Spider-Man 2 is more of the same. I mean, look at the comments in this thread. I don’t even have to make an argument. From my perspective, it doesn’t matter bc outside of the Vita, I am new to Sony, so I am a fan.

As for Nintendo, there’s been quite a bit new and innovative in the design of the hardware itself. It being hybrid, the controllers etc. There’s been new IP (Mario Rabbids, ARMs, Mario Kart Live, Splatoon, Ring Fit, LABO and a new Peach game) and improvements existing franchises with Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Zelda, Wonder and Odyssey….

I could understand your argument if it had a repeat of the WiiU, but sales suggest otherwise. The next generation sounds promising too. Again, not trying to incite console war post here, as as there’s plenty I like about Sony, including the Portal, tho I probably won’t get one bc I have too many devices as it stands.

Why isn’t Nintendo considered Sony’s rival? Not being too much of a fanboy, bc I love all the platforms, including Xbox and Sony. But I think Nintendo is best prepared to navigate the future.

Consoles are going away…..but Nintendo has the more endearing and most franchises. They are branching out into other areas of entertainment. And they are very comfortable, if not dominant in the handheld space. Plus, they have a generation to catch up- in 7-8 years, there will probably be a Nintendo hybrid system with the specs of a Ps5 and in 15, the specs of a Ps6….

Re: UK Sales Charts: Hogwarts Legacy Apparates Back to the Top Spot

@UltimateOtaku91 YouTuber “Switchforce” summed it up perfectly……it’s one of those games that you just wouldn’t expect to run at all on the Switch and it actually runs fairly well. But it 2023, not 2017. It’s time to stop the miracles and get with the times- get to the point where games run well and it’s just par for the course. So, if the Switch is your only platform or if you you want to play it on the go, it’s not such a bad option….

As for Mario RPG, I think most will choose Wonder over this- it hasn’t even been a month since release. I got it, but it was a last minute decision on impulse. I bet it ultimately still sells a solid 4-5 million.

Re: Sony Says PS Portal Wasn't Designed to Make a Profit

I can see where this makes sense. If you just buy a console and you aren’t using, you won’t be as inclined to get the next console and you lose a customer. So with this, a husband can play whilst the wife and/or kids watch other programming. This is why I loved the WiiU, but that’s another story…. I get that it’s expensive, but so is a pro/Edge controller. A more casual gamer won’t need that, but would probably find this more appealing.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS Portal?

rockodoodle

Undecided. It seems like something I would enjoy. I have a Steam Deck, two switches and a dedicated tv for ps5. Really don’t need it but I just like this sort of thing….

Re: PS5 Is Now Above PS4 in USA, While Its New-Gen Rival Flounders

“Moreover, it’s worth reiterating that this is the situation in the United States, where the Xbox brand is strongest – in countries like France, Sony is closing on 90 per cent market share against its nearest rival.”

Do they just flat out not consider Nintendo a rival? Nintendo is pretty big in France, and I can’t imagine that they have a 90 percent margin on them.

Re: PS5 Is Running Riot in Europe, with Sales Up 175% Over Last Year

@Powerplay94 there’s 130 plus million “ancillary consoles” out there…for me the Switch is my main console and the other two are my side consoles. I play on the go mostly….hard to say what the next iteration will do. Might be tough to follow the success of the Switch, but if they can avoid the mistakes of the WiiU, I can see it doing quite well.

Re: Demand for PlayStation Portal Sky High in Japan, Pre-Orders Reportedly Sold Out

rockodoodle

@gonzilla same here. I took a hiatus from gaming dating back nearly 20 years to the SNES and I was amazed. NintendoLand is such an underrated game. The few games it had were really awesome, especially Mario Kart 8. That’s another surreal moment….. Lack of marketing and poor timing. Tablets and mobile gaming blew up at the same time and people didn’t see the value in tethered gaming, but I loved how it freed up the TV and also for the few games that employed it, the second screen….

Re: Demand for PlayStation Portal Sky High in Japan, Pre-Orders Reportedly Sold Out

rockodoodle

@lightningbolt79 I see it more as a premium controller. I realize that you can accomplish similar results by other means, but this is a more convenient integrated approach. I will be in the minority, but I think it is really cool. Not sure I will get it bc I have blown a ton of $$$$ on systems and games. Steamdeck, x2 switches, Ps5, Elite 2 and Series X….Not ruling out a future purchase, but with a new Switch on the horizon, I think that $$$$ would be better spent there.

But if you have a family or even just a partner and one wants to watch TV whilst the other plays, this is pretty cool. I always thought the WiiU was cool and that if properly marketed, it should have sold better.

Re: Where to Pre-Order PlayStation Portal

rockodoodle

@RichterBelmont this is somewhat like a beta….think what the WiiU was to the Switch, only they won’t have to suffer as a company like Nintendo did.

I think you hit a key point tho….a lot of so-called experts say that the console will disappear or maybe they morph into a dongle ….but a dedicated would be pretty cool. I am not sure what it is, but I just don’t like gaming on tablets and phones. Maybe I am just a Nintendo fanboy at heart, but I believe in their philosophy that the software build is tied to the hardware….Sony has obviously dabbled in this, but perhaps they see the writing on the wall.

I am not sure I will buy the next gen Xbox or PlayStation if for no other reason that I think we have hit diminishing returns with gaming. I really don’t care about 8k and 120 fps or whatever the specs will be. But sign me up for an advanced handheld system that can keep up with with current gen specs.

Re: Xbox Poised to Borrow from PS5's DualSense Controller

rockodoodle

@Fritz167 it reminds me of the Gamepad on the WiiU. It was really cool but not many games took advantage of it. Except maybe more games made use of the feature on that system than the features on the Dualsense….I love the controller but it’s a shame the functionality isn’t used much….

Re: Madden NFL 24 (PS5) - Another Five Yards Forward for EA Sports' Football Sim

rockodoodle

@Impossibilium I bought a Steamdeck last year in part bc I always wanted to play Madden in hand held mode. EA never released a Switch version, which I think was a big mistake. Anyway, I made the mistake of getting Madden in mid October, right when my Deck arrived. Two weeks later, it went on sale for at least 40 percent off. If I get this, it will be at the end of the season for a deep discount….

Re: PS5 Sales Absolutely Explode in the UK Following Price Cut

rockodoodle

@Beerheadgamer82 Nintendo won’t be able to compete on specs. The system will be too expensive and most Nintendo users aren’t as graphic/performance focused. Also, by essentially being a generation behind as far as hardware, it leaves some wiggle room for the future…. What I am getting at is that we are already at a point of diminishing returns as far as hardware. Honestly, I am still impressed with Ps4/xbone and think it would be pretty amazing to be able to have this level of performance in a handheld….

Re: Preview: Ignore the Snark, Foamstars Is Good

rockodoodle

The main problem I have with a game like this is the same issue I have with Splatoon…. I am just not big with online multiplayer and much prefer a single player campaign….but this does look cool if you are into games like this.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Nothing on PS5, PS4, Can Compete with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

rockodoodle

@Slippship while the Steamdeck is far more robots, the battery sucks and it’s quite bulky. Granted, you have to be a fan of Nintendo like stuff, but it has the most exclusives and developers have managed to do a lot with the hardware…. It’s starting to feel dated but I still prefer it over my other three consoles. The Vita has aged pretty well. It’s like the WiiU. Under appreciated and obviously didn’t sell very well. It’s a great little device but the Switch is an upgrade

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

rockodoodle

As cool as subscriptions can be, I like to buy games on sale so I can play them at my pace. Xbox sorta does it right bc they own so many studios…sticking with GamePass for at least the end of the year. Not sure if I continue after that. If u are selective and patient, you can own some great games very inexpensively. Tht said, I do like that u can try out games that you normally might not have tried before…
