@StrickenBiged I think a fall from high enough up does make sense. If Spidey can take damage from enemies and bullets and other things, you have to include fall damage. Hopefully it's not damage from like two stories up or something silly, though!
Ocarina of Time --- never beat it back in the day. Recently beat Metroid Prime for the first time and earlier this year beat Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 for the first time.
@djlard You're right about From not caring much about story, but it's highly unfair to say they don't care about how long or good the game is. They are one of the best developers in the field and have earned and deserve that praise and recognition.
Yong has a very pleasing and rich voice, but I don't think his take on the character quite works. Hopefully with additional direction/guidance, he'll find it. Not that I have ever played these games or ever will.
@twinspectre90 Darn right! KF was incredible at the time and still in many ways holds up (other than taking 10 seconds to turn around lol). I would be more amped for a KF remake or new KF than any other game someone could come up with. My fave is probably KF2, but I love them all (I still have to beat the original Japanese KF, which never released here).
@ear_wig I have, and it does look way better than prior ones to me; however, I still have concerns. I do think I'll take a shot at it on heavy discount. Part of the problem for me is that I'm not huge on sci fi or mechs to begin with, and I find the environments to be rather bleak.
@Darude84 Was it supposed to justify the new consoles? Seems like this game is exactly what it should be and what you would like it to be — a palate cleanser. I'm sure the developers know that.
@NeonDint Thanks for posting this. I already was not happy about the damage numbers popping up all over the place in the bits of overly busy combat I saw; if foul language abounds, I don't need to waste my time with this (which is great, as my backlog is pretty nuts, despite getting through a chunk of it over the past few years).
I loved SF2 and its variants in the early to mid 90s but can't get into the sequels for some reason. Also, similar to racing games, I've generally lost interest in fighting games, perhaps because there are simply so many releases in other genres nowadays that I seem to prefer. Maybe I'll get SF6 on a heavy sale in the future, just for kicks.
I'm actually really happy they are going this route, because when all these live service games bomb, they will realize just how much they need to stick with quality single-player gaming as their focus.
From has been making gems since King's Field 1, and they are probably my favorite developer. I'm quite surprised that ER has garnered so much mainstream success, but I am very glad to see it!
@Judal27 From has multiple teams now, so they haven't really changed genres off of Souls, they are actually working in additional titles. For example, you had Deracine on PSVR and now you have Armored Core 6. And apparently they are now expanding even more.
@KundaliniRising333 I agree. The first game is okay and markedly overrated. It had some fun moments but much of it felt like a slog. With my backlog, it's going to be hard for me to put the new one anywhere near the top of my priority list.
@OrtadragoonX That's funny. lol. Honestly, I don't remember there being bad language in FFVII, but I played it only once something like 26 years ago. Still, it wasn't spoken/heard, and I bet FFXVI has way more. Hard to say at the moment, I guess.
Once I saw "Mature", with "Strong Language", among other stuff, I was skeptical (if I really need to hear cursing, I can go outside in public and listen to countless inconsiderate uneducated teens to 30-somethings). Now that I've seen the video, I'm convinced I want nothing to do with this game. Overly busy, flashy, noisy, just a pure assault on one's senses that comes off as painful.
@kyleforrester87 Agreed. Also, I've asked a couple friends if they think Octopath's progression structure is unconventional, and I got responses ranging from "I'm not sure how" to "Quite the opposite". It seems pretty typical and FF-like to me, but I haven't received a clarification from Ralizah. Regardless, the Octopath games are incredible.
@Ralizah To be fair, I've only played FF 4, 6, 7, and 10, but you do travel with multiple people in your party in Octopath and can switch them out, just like in the FFs I played. I know you can only see one person at a time though, and the story focus is on that person during that part of the story, but I didn't see that as a negative; I guess others disagree, which I can respect. I actually preferred the fighting mechanics in Octopath, as I found them to be more thoughtful/strategic than FF, but to each their own. I'm curious as to what you mean by the progression structure.
@Ralizah Disagree in the sense that imo Octopath is very much in the vein of earlier FF games. That said, I would prefer FF stick closer to its roots than it currently does.
I tried it for a while. Unfortunately, most of the things that I tried were glitchy/unfinished. I was also hoping that would be a much greater selection of retro-inspired creations, such as let's say a Donkey Kong (arcade version) game with numerous levels, or a huge updated version of Atari 2600 Adventure. Seems like Dreams would have been perfect for that kind of thing, but nobody was interested. Guess it arrived a couple decades too late.

Re: PlayStation's 2024 Release Schedule Is Already a Joke
Probably only 4 games I want, tbh.

Re: Secret PS5 Firmware Update Feature Spotlights Your Wall of Shame
Elden Ring: 340
Octopath Traveler II: 203
Super Mega Baseball 4: 166 (mostly simulating a few short seasons in real time).
I platted the first two.
Octopath II seems exaggerated, but I likely paused a fair bit in-game or left it on the menu screen, etc.
Re: Secret PS5 Firmware Update Feature Spotlights Your Wall of Shame
@rusty82 It was 14 not 16; would be impossible to have played 16 that many hours since release. lol
Re: Poll: Was Sony's Latest State of Play Worth the Wait?
For me it was poor. Spidey two is the only thing that grabbed me, and I already knew about it obviously.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 491

Re: Larian Studios CEO Responds to 'Raised Standards' Concerns: 'Standards Die Every Day'
@djlard Oh! Thanks for clarifying! And I agree.
Re: You Can Now Buy PS Plus Premium Classics Tekken 2, Ridge Racer Type 4, More
Finally! Pretty amped about this.
Re: Larian Studios CEO Responds to 'Raised Standards' Concerns: 'Standards Die Every Day'
@Shakybeeves Well said and well-written post.

Re: Preview: Sony's Next Great First-Party Game Is Media Molecule's Tren, Made in Dreams
@Tr3mm0r I love From but also am very intrigued by Tren.
Re: PS1 Platformer Tomba! Makes a Grand Return on PS5, PS4
@SAMTYLER1974 We may have to learn to be happy with such releases for a while, as Sony throws its weight behind Live Service games.

@Toot1st Good for Sony, after watching Microsoft try to buy the world.

@ear_wig Fair point! lol
Re: Preview: It's Virtually Impossible for Armored Core 6 to Fail
@twinspectre90 Awesome! Was thinking of a replay. Been over 27 years...
EDIT: Oh you mean the Japanese one! Epic!

Re: Preview: It's Virtually Impossible for Armored Core 6 to Fail
@poetwarlord Yeah, I'm huge on KF/DeSo/DS/BB/Sekiro/ER, but I never found AC appealing at all. Maybe that can change with AC6, but I'm doubtful.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Demo Spotted on PS Store
@OrtadragoonX Understood! Congrats on your son!
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Demo Spotted on PS Store
@OrtadragoonX That is a very good question! I watched and hated it for both the language and the gratuitous violence.
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Demo Spotted on PS Store
Really glad I can get a demo to see how much swearing there is. If the cursing level is high, I'm out. Don't need that garbage.
Re: Poll: Which PS5 Blockbuster Will You Be Playing in June?

Re: The Plucky Squire Looks Absolutely Wonderful in New PS5 Gameplay Trailer
Pretty sad that this was the best reveal of the show, other than (maybe) Spidey and MGS — and it's not even an exclusive.
I'm honestly more excited about the Amico games coming to Switch.
Re: Another Game as a Service on PS5 Is Being Abandoned
Great news. Let's get back to a single player focus.

King's Field V please!

@Ralizah But, but... it has an unconventional progression structure and experimental mechanics!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 472
Finished Octopath 2 plat a few days ago so taking a break with retro games and Super Mega Baseball 2 before diving into Metroid Prime.

@tselliot Yeah, probably why I generally do not like FPS. . I do hope you enjoy it.
Re: Soapbox: Final Fantasy 16 Is the Most Excited I've Been for the Series in Almost 20 Years
16 years isn't really "almost 20", but I understand you're excited. This game would have to change a lot for me to be interested.

Re: Preview: Single Player Spell-Based FPS Immortals of Aveum Looks Like Pure PS5 Magic
Honestly this looks pretty awful to me. Flashy effects do not make a game. It also looks way too busy to be able to keep track of what is going on.
